Asimo Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Airbag light? You can have mine foc, I know that it works too. Not having an airbag light is the sort of thing I am working toward dreaming about right now. mercedade 1
Ghosty Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Get a Laguna II, I'm sure* you'll be able to find one without any warning lights. It'd probably cost about as much as that filler neck, too. That probably means it doesn't start though.
twosmoke300 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 When you do get the wheels off its worth checking the brackets that hold the shock to the axle . I've seen a few of these fall off totally . Luckily they unbolt off the axle and are available from Toyota . You will deffo need a smaller socket and a hammer to change them though
dollywobbler Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 I would have expected no light to be a fail. Which is why I'm confused.
brickwall Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Yep, light is a fail surely. Same as not functioning light?
Dave_Q Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Surely its one of those not there = can't test situations? https://mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk/common-mistakes-made-by-mot-testers/ "If no lamp is present or it doesn’t illuminate then it can’t indicate a system fault, so it can’t be failed." Doesn't answer why it doesn't have one though. egg and Eddie Honda 2
egg Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 That's why I unplugged my airbag for the Mondeo MOT, as can't test, can't fail. But still think l should have an advisory!
dollywobbler Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Where's Scaryoldcortina when you need him?
666jjp Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 this is the advisory you get when the light doesn't work, Supplementary Restraint System warning lamp does not illuminate (5.4.2) egg 1
Sloth in a bowl Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Depends on your MOT man. A work colleague of mine had an odd situation recently. MOT of her 4 year old BMWTester number 1: we want to replace your dashboard for £700 before we give you an MOT.Tester number 2: passes the car no question. I have a look at the car to understand this odd behaviour and none of the dashboard warning lights show up at any point. I have put this down to BMW having added a female owner detection system that switches off all items that will never be taken notice of.
vulgalour Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I think the only* solution is to fit a not-airbag wheel. beko1987 and egg 2
beko1987 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 If you win the lada at sf youll have the perfect one
dollywobbler Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 I'm certainly not going to worry about it for now. MOT runs until March. Had a little run out in tonight. In a thunderstorm. Certainly feels planted, even on shit tyres in torrential rain. The clutch bite seems quite low though, and the gearbox is quite notchy. Hydraulic clutch, so no adjustment. Meh. Should get new tyres next week, so I can really start piling on the miles. Once the garage has got the other rear wheel off, I'll have a butchers at the brakes that side too. Very scrapey. If it's anything like the other side, then it'll be full of rust flakes from the drum and dust.
dollywobbler Posted May 29, 2016 Author Posted May 29, 2016 Fuel filler neck breather bodged. With garden hose as it was all I had that fitted. I'm hoping that it won't actually get soaked in too much fuel, as I doubt it's up to constant contact with the stuff. Next job, find where the fuel filter is and replace it. Jim Bell Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 If there hasn't been ano in car Greenlaning video review in this yet, why not? If there has, I apologise and request a link because I'm lazy.
dollywobbler Posted May 29, 2016 Author Posted May 29, 2016 I have had a quick run around the lanes, but didn't get any footage. I'll be out again once I've got some decent rubber on the car. Jim Bell 1
dollywobbler Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 Two weeks of ownership (almost) and I've only just pointed a proper camera at this thing. Absolutely love driving around in it with roof panels off and windows down. It's like being in a bloomin' roadster. The side windows are absolutely enormous. Still an odd chattering noise coming from the engine. I did whip the alternator belt off the other day. Thought that may have diminished it, but the alternator seemed to spin merrily enough. Hope it isn't water pump or belt tensioner... Haven't driven it that much though, as I'm still waiting for sodding tyres to be delivered. oldcars and Coprolalia 2
dollywobbler Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 FINALLY! I have legal tyres. Decided to give these Michelin Latitude Cross tyres a go, as they're apparently meant to be decent off-road. They certainly seem pretty good on-road so far. Nice to have a bit more confidence in it now the near-slicks have gone. I seem to have been able to get at least one of the roof panels off pretty much every time I've gone for a drive in it too. That's bloody marvellous. Bit more faff than a basic sunroof though. egg and phil_lihp 2
junkyarddog Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Some older Toyota's were not fitted with an ECU controlled Airbag, they were mechanical,so no airbag light. Lacquer Peel and Dave_Q 2
dollywobbler Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Some older Toyota's were not fitted with an ECU controlled Airbag, they were mechanical,so no airbag light. Ooh, thanks for that. I've just googled it and you may well be onto something there.
dollywobbler Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 An hour ago, I didn't know mechanical airbags existed. Now, I've discovered that there are TWO of them on my driveway! XJS is also so equipped. Must remember never to thumb the steering wheel... beko1987 and loserone 2
dollywobbler Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 As this is meant to be a towing vehicle, I thought I'd use my trailer board to test the electrics. Not a sausage. Followed the wiring back. Oh. Someone went to the trouble of removing the interior panels to thread this wire in, but then didn't actually connect it up! How odd. Now I need to work out what the wires do.
oldcars Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Is that the wiring that goes to the socket on the towbar? If so this may help.
JohnDeere Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 An hour ago, I didn't know mechanical airbags existed. Now, I've discovered that there are TWO of them on my driveway! XJS is also so equipped. Must remember never to thumb the steering wheel... Wow, just read up on that - also never knew these existed. Presumably they are just as effective and reliable - otherwise we'd have heard horror stories. Bang.
dollywobbler Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Is that the wiring that goes to the socket on the towbar? If so this may help. Already have that side. It's the vehicle wiring that's the tricky bit. Especially as I can't remove either rear lamp cluster... oldcars 1
dollywobbler Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 UGH! This is just getting stupid now. Wired it in, nothing working at all. Then I discover why. This is the other end of the wire. So, it turns out that there's an old bit of wire in there, which someone has then ignored. They've threaded in a NEW bit of wire, and that's not attached to anything either. This is beyond stupid. Of course, the plug is rusty as fook, so I'll have to buy a new one. How insanely irritating.
320touring Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 for some perspective, imagine if the ner wires had been connected and live at one end, and just quietly resting against the metal at the back... look at it this way, you have a towbar wiring kit that someone has already routed for you:)
KruJoe Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Back light clusters are a doodle to pop out Ian.From memory...Open the back door, there's one screw just below each cluster, that releases a little body-coloured trim strip, which then reveals two(?) screws for the light unit. (Off outside to check now...)
