Now you're just being silly. Fantastically silly.

And you expected something else?

I would say Lexus Ls400. You do need a good wedge to buy a good one and maintenance bills can be eye watering at best .... Could tow your entire house though!

Your going to struggle to replace the Xm with jap tin. Nothing is quite as well spoken and refined for respectable money! Mr Skelton's Xm is wonderful and I couldn't suggest anything other than maybe a Gs300 or Ls400 that would be even close to that!

I wish you much luck and leave a Stagea as a final thought :D

I've just driven home in near silence and great comfort in my Accord coupe after getting the 3rd MOT in a row with no advisories, the coupes are massively under rated cars and are dirt cheap at the moment.

Parts are expensive, but this is less of a worry as they never seem to go wrong  ;-)

The 5th gen coupes are worthless at the moment and well worth a look.

I have messaged the seller. Boring colour, but bloody cheap. Likely to need to see a welder before long.

There's one mystery - is it the (seemingly) rarer UK model or an Estima? In any case I don't think we got the 4WD one.

Engine access on these is weird, you go in the footwell/transmission tunnel to get to it by lifting the seat and unbolting a panel to get to the bulk of things.

That does mean you get a column shifter though, because there's no room for a gearstick 8)

4WD is not essential. It is a UK market one by the look of things.

Probably pushing the limits of acceptibility, despite its trueness. Didn't stop me checking a couple out on Ebay earlier...

In the early 90s there was a self-emplyed carpet fitter in my area who used to run round with the carpets on a trailer behind various Toyotas. At one time he had a Supra - 1990 body style, then he had a V6 Camry. Either of these would make a great tow car. You wouldn't be able to fit much into the Supra but being RWD, 6-cyl and a heavy bugger it will be able to pull.

gotta break out of the car clique guff- a Frontera could let you sell much more exciting badge engineered motahs to publishers at a later date;)

Could always use a Trooper/Monterey or a Brava pickup as a gateway! ;)

I think a J reg Lada Samara 1.5 with a dented rear door will have Ian sorted, it's not J tin, but it's thinking outside the box

LS400 towbars are not very common it seems. In my experience, buying a tow bar is an utter waste of money. Doesn't really add value, may even put buyers off and I rarely keep a vehicle long enough for that investment to be worth it.

Hang on a mo...You don't want to buy a towbar because it doesn't make a car more saleable, but you're only looking at cars with towbars?

Find a car you like, negotiate a price that would allow the fitting of a towbar, fit towbar, win at life.

You see, I look at all these capable 4x4s and then wonder if I'd like to travel vast mileage in them. No, not really. So, the scope is creeping. I could hire a van to go and collect the 2CV, and perhaps that's the best option (especially as I might well end up with an LDV Maxus for that). We've sold our trailer, so the only other sticking point is the caravan. Which I'm really not a fan of to be honest. It's a pain in the arse at home, because it takes up a huge chunk of driveway (and is a bit of a sod to reverse down from the road, which is the only option). It's a pain in the arse on the road, because it's a caravan. It's not too bad once on site somewhere, but I'm not sure it justifies the stress of getting it to places.

So, balls to towing ability. I'm heading back to Ebay.
