I've seen this car posted for so long on flickr it's so amazing to see it rescued for the great british people! :D Love the story here, so amazing.

Thanks for the positive words Sean. I've been following your Sierras on Flickr, and was parked near your C reg EMAX at the Festival of the Unexceptional (I was with the beige Maestro, dressed as an old giffer).

Would you be able to PM me some details of the bumper? It's not a massive priority for the car, but it is one of the few non-OE parts on the car, and the MK2 bumper was only fitted around 2011, so it's not like its a historic modification. And it's already had a bump or two by the looks.

Awesome stuff, yes your username rang a bell. That show was great, I've entered the Emax in again for this year. I regret not spending more time hovering around your Maestro, it looked fantastic and I hope to see it again come July.

Shall drop you a PM.

Nice offer.

I work in MK each week... Let's try to get the cars together?!!

Absolutely! Spot the difference between the miserly Base and 'decadent' L

I'll drop you message sometime soon.

I have just read through this thread, and was really pleased to see that it will live on. I have never seen one of these, but then you rarely see a Sierra anymore, except the fast ones. Best of luck with the preservation of the car, restoration would probably be wrong, but it needs to be kept alive for as long as possible.

As you may gather, I have a 2cv, so this "base" actually looks quite luxurious to me!

As Jay Chin-o says it's all about the 'pateeenah', the only way this could be any more shite tastic would be if it was a 1.3

I'm convinced that our local village bus operators (Rules Coaches of Boxford) had a base red estate from new, I remember the grey grille There doesn't seem to be a mention of it in the 'Saloon' listing - logically, as a saloon estate would be silly, unlike saloon hatchback - but my old Parker's Guide suggests there was such a thing. Will go and check one of my old brochures later.

I'm convinced your right because there was a beige body/grey grill base estate in my street. Bought new by a wholesale butcher for his wife to wreck by filling with dogs and pony stuff. My Dad bought a Sherpa off him too.

Bits beginning to arrive. Doofus forgot to pick up the rocker gasket and the thermostat so back we go tomorrow.

Wix is what the previous owner had on it... So we're keeping it real.

Wix need to stop making car parts and concentrate on their DIY products. They couldn't even get me a bi fold door the other day.

The Rocker cover gasket changed in 83 I seem to remember.

Early ones were about half the width of the later ones. I think the later one is a JM620 but I forgot the early ones part number. Disgraceful really. It can only be 15 years since I sold one.

As the boy in the spares place, several customers who were no where near as clever as they thought they were would reject the later wide gasket in the belief that the dumb ass boy was trying to palm them off with a sump gasket.

I have had a look round.  I have a rear cross member, a door I think nearside rear, some windows, bits from the inside of doors, endless small parts such as fixings, and other small bits.

I think I have one of those smaller rocker cover gaskets but it will take a bit of finding.

Surprising - as ever - how few parts are in common with mine, which is a 1986 2 litre.

Err, scrap that. I mean has anybody got a HBOL for the Sierra? I've just returned my library books and am short of some bedtime reading.

That green Sierra needs it's twin-vent hubcaps put back on for maximum shiteage. I've never seen one that colour either, very rare!

Family are still in Felixstowe.  Dad is quite well connected.

I will hunt him down like a dog...

my old Maths teacher Mrs Dalton had one in that colour, it had a big swirly mark on the side where someone had accidentally booted a very muddy football at it, (whistles and walks away).

This is exactly how I ended up with the second MK1 in February... For how many MK1s are left, of those unmodified and in mingebag specification, putting the four together woukd make for a high percentage of the remaining surviving population!
