holbeck Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Can those guy's do any dealer? or was it just a happy accident that they had the graphic?
trigger Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 I was lucky as they had my dealer on their computer but they can do any dealer if you give them a photo to go by, they have a lot more on file than they have on the website. holbeck 1
michael1703 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I never knew what DMB plates meant, just found their site, looks handy
purplebargeken Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Looking back on previous postings for the Sierra it seems that DMB don't have the dealer set for mine. I have followed an old link and have come up with a solution. I just need to confirm the old dealers contact number first. trigger 1
Angrydicky Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Those look great, Trig! Really transforms the look of the car. I think a nice set of matching dealer plates is a big sign towards low ownership and low miles. Just makes the car look more cared-for. purplebargeken, HMC and trigger 3
Dick Cheeseburger Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I don't go much on repro plates in general as many companies just don't seem to get them 100% right looking. However, DMB appear to be the dogs proverbials. fantasio, Skizzer and trigger 3
trigger Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 This thing has been testing my good nature, Yesterday dad came round to help change the front shocks, wishbones and drop links, 30 mins the video on youtube said, 5 hours later and we still hadn't finished. Everything is rusted and seized up, the breaker bar had to come out on more than one occasion followed by the grinder, Had to cut the pinch bolts off and couldn't find replacements meaning the cars of the road now until i can get some and when we did take the shock out all the oil from inside it was inside the cartridge instead. To be fair the front suspension all looks original still so after 28 years and 152000 miles it's hardly surprising that it's shagged. I certainly losing the love for it at the moment though.
Skizzer Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Keep the faith Trig, it's a honey. You're just having to catch up with a quarter of a century of maintenance. You'll get there, shortly. Fun fact: Apparently I was at primary school with Catherine Zeta Jones. I have zero recollection of this, however. What a useless herbert I am. outlaw118, trigger and robinmasters 3

trigger Posted April 24, 2016 Author Posted April 24, 2016 The mojo is starting to come back for this again now, yesterday dad came back round, much to his excitement, to help me finished the suspension on the nearside, it wasn't quite as hard to change as the offside as we was more prepared but it still was a bit of a faff as everything was so rusty. The track rod end was a pain so it has seized on and we couldn't remove it so ended up removing the whole rod from the engine bay, heating it up in a vice and removing it with some stiltsons, once that was sorted the rest wasn't too bad to change. We also had a go at nipping up the rest of the manifold nuts, it's still not perfect but it isn't quite as tappy as before. It now drives like it's been transformed, no more crashing over bumps and wayward steering, it just feels as it should now. £100 well spent!. As seen in my drive it day thread, I drove it to Norfolk today which is about a 110 mile round trip, it done it faultlessly and comfortably, I'm really starting to enjoy driving it now!. Wuvvum had a little drive of it today and remarked on how nice it was to drive. Here's some photos i took at the car meet. A friend was having a drive in it here!. The only think letting it down now really is the bottom of the door rubbers, god knows what I'll do there and it sometimes splutters a little and smells fuelly making me wonder if a injector has a small weeps, I could be wrong though. cort16, Grundig, Ghosty and 8 others 11
The Moog Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 It is so 80s .... Needs a power suit, some cock rock and a filofax.
wuvvum Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 How many cars could we store in that abandoned warehouse? Such a waste! You're right though, it is a great location for pictures.
purplebargeken Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 That warehouse needs an autoshite group buy. Oh, could you just imagine what we could fill it up with!
cort16 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Rezpekt for spending some decent coin on new parts and beating it into shape.
trigger Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 This old bus has now done 800 miles in my ownership and it seems to be getting better, today was MOT time and i wasn't worried at all, not one bit... the CO2 was running a bit lean but we've found that one of the injectors is a bit lose and it's letting air in hence the poor cold running and CO2 reading, the MOT tester adjusted it a bit so it's now running better although it will need doing again once I've fitted new injector seals. The rest of the mot wasn't too bad, a couple of little things i need to sort, namely a rear wheel bearing that needs tightening but it resulting in a Yay!. Now the problem i have got is that the exhaust manifold gasket still needs doing and the injectors need to come out for that anyway so replacing the seals isn't a issue, Do i pay to get that fixed and use the car a bit, sell it at a loss and use this Astra I'm collecting or just get this Astra anyway, sort it out and sell it on using the profit to get the repairs done. Decisions, decisions. Coprolalia, andrew e, Skizzer and 2 others 5
themildbunch Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I'd keep it - these are great cars - so solidy built.. I'd do the injector seals asap - you don't want fuel squirting around a hot engine, even though it's only air at the moment! trigger 1
trigger Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 This has been a bit of a brief ownership even for me but time has come to move this on. It's a good car now, I've spent a lot of money on it so it should be reliable for the next owner as interesting daily driver, the biggest fault with the car is the exhaust manifold gasket blow, it does tap and it is annoying. I should get it fixed but i don't want to spend more money getting a garage to replace it, if you can fix it yourself or happy to live with the sound then it's perfect for you. I'd also recommend replacing the injector seals whilst at it as you have to pull them out anyway to do the gasket, it runs a little lumpy when cold at the moment but this doesn't affect the way it drives, it really is a nice drive and it goes well! The 2.2 10v KV lump is a great sounding engine. It's had all new front suspension parts, a new rad, a full service with plugs leads and only today i fitted a new brake flexi hose and pipe work. Externally it's presentable for a unrestored car, a few little scabby bits here and there but nothing really worth noting, the rubbers on the bottom of the doors is a bit rubbish but it's not the end of the world. All the electrics work as well as the central locking, I'll leave the stereo in it, the interior is comfortable and tidy but i have pinned the headlining up, it looks ok though, and the sunroof doesn't stay up so it's best to leave it closed. It's done 151000 miles but it doesn't feel like it, as you can read above it's just passed it mot too. I'm looking at getting around £850 ono. Skizzer, oldcars, worldofceri and 2 others 5
Skizzer Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 That's a proper bargain for someone, I reckon. Quite tempted myself, but usual excuses apply. trigger 1
Guest Lord Sward Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 The best build quality I've ever experienced in a car. I ran an F-reg 80.
billyboy406v6 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Lovely car, shame I have no room. GLWS !! trigger 1
forddeliveryboy Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 The 2.2 is more reliable than the 2.3 which replaced it - lovely motor for which I've a soft spot. Shouldn't think you'd have too much trouble selling, you just need a Junkman/Conelrad quality advert. trigger 1
Ghosty Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Is the sunroof electric? A broken sunroof seems to be par for the course on old Audis (our early A4 has a lot of parts bin bits from the 80/90), ours doesn't work and our car's done just over half the mileage. Try to open it, it just makes angry noises and either sticks open or closes itself again. Headlining out to replace motor - B5 Passat has a door for the motor
trigger Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 No sadly its a aftermarket jobby, part of the clip is snapped off and the arm bit doesn't lock in, it will lift in and out but doesn't lock up although it is water tight.
trigger Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 Anybody want take this for £700 before i put this on the open market? I can't go any lower as it owes me too much but after a few shitters drove it on Friday the consensus is that it's not as bad as i keep making out and its a lovely car to drive.
trigger Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 There doesn't seem to be much love for this on here is there?. Anybody want to make a offer on it as the insurance and and tax is about to run out and i could do with it out of the way. I'd trust it to drive anywhere in comfit and without issue. Years mot too, electric windows with one touch on the drivers door, central locking, good tyres all round as well as a brand new spare, nice stereo, power steering and a nice changing gearbox.

trigger Posted May 25, 2016 Author Posted May 25, 2016 Been there, done that with a old 190E, not again thanks. Saying that this does drive nicer than a 190E in my opinion.
BorniteIdentity Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Shame. It's proper nice bunting. andrew e, Magnificent Rustbucket, inconsistant and 1 other 4
