Which new cars are worth buying?

Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris and Suzuki Swift.

Can't go wrong with any of them imo - especially if she's intending to keep it for a long time.

Previous models and latest frequently list very high in the reliability charts.

Not the most thrilling cars mind.

Tell your mum to take a Suzuki Swift out for a test drive and then tell her to thank me afterwards.

New car chat! I was wondering what was going on then for a second...

And no one suggested the Horsey Horseless Crossover yet...

Having said that there are some very capable small new cars out there, I will generally praise the virtues of the Fiat 500 actually. Found them to be good little cars... As long as you're not doing loads of miles.

Citroen Cactus,it's the only new car that I like the look of.I don't know anything about them though  :?

Ahem for a totally unbiased* report feel free to message me.

I might just do that. I quite like the look of them and spec sheet.

The Suzuki Swift has one of the cheapest interiors I've ever seen. Plastics are from a Korean car of the 1960's.

What, a locally assembled Mazda?

As far as I have been able to ascertain, all Nissan Notes are limited by design to 37 mph.  That being the case, I wouldn't recommend that your mum buy one - it'll take her forever to get anywhere.

My mother stuck with her 309 and instead of buying a new car put her money into those awful porcelain figurines that some older people are inexplicably drawn to. Sadly I didn't inherit the Peugeot...

Because it's available in beige.

Because you can refer to it as "Our Soul" (arsehole)

Pointless Digression Moment*

I sat behind a new Swift recently and ff.me .... It had a diff screwed to the back bumper!!

The exhaust looks like a s/s kitchen sink, hanging off!!

If my mum said I need a new car, I'd throw her in a non-base model Sandero

What is that again, Billy? Is it a Kia?

:-D

I also had to look up the Dacia Sandero / Stepway thing. Yikes, it looks grim... looks like a block of Iron Curtain-era flats, and with a plastic misery interior to match. Also, it's basically a Renault. Wouldn't.

All that's missing from that PieCan hunter 405 picture is a load of Mini Metros on the cliffs looking down.

If I were buying new I'd be seriously considering Hyundai. We have a Note and do not like it very much. Nissan quality is not what it once was.

Because Nissan-quality is now Renault-quality.  :?

The Mazda 2 looks sexy but if she wants to sit up a bit high, it just won't do.

Also, Dacia are not doing their cars in automatic yet (not the Stepway anyway) and my Mum wants an automatic as she last drove a manual vehicle in the 1970s I think.

I'm enjoying the replies anyway. Thanks!

because it is something new ie you couldn't buy anything like it 30 years ago whereas 30 years ago good petrol cars were available.

**I could go for a brown, electric Cube!

+1 for Hyundai.  The white-goods-from-Currys of the motoring world. Long warranty = peace of mind, and current range looks sharp too.

Fiesta also recommended if you go for a non-turbo/TDi four-pot petrol. Cheap and plentiful, lots of dealers everywhere, easy to maintain, very nice to drive, very well built and reliable. Easy to sell on. Hard to change headlight bulbs.
