Right. I'm back. And I'm not sure if there's much point taking part as Panhard65 has clearly won Autoshite with whatever that blue thing is!

I began 2005 looking like this.

1923826_25370003199_143_n.jpg?oh=eab2fa9

The 2CV looked like this, and I also owned a Tobacco Leaf P6 V8. Ideal commuter. The AX belonged to Mrs DW before she was Mrs DW.

1923826_25370028199_1713_n.jpg?oh=d15db1

Then I began to lose my marbles and flogged the delightful 306 to buy this. It was shit. Not shite, just utter shit. At everything.

1923826_25370013199_793_n.jpg?oh=b32367b

Before long, I'd shoved it to the back of the driveway and bought this not-bad Audi.

1923826_25370023199_1417_n.jpg?oh=ba1971

Then I met a chap called Keith Adams and the Audi became a 160bhp Citroen BX. My photography skills have improved...

12239695_10153761663903200_6062073096454

It was pretty f*cked to be honest, so did what any sensible person would and swapped it with a friend for a nice, relaxing Rover 414.

12227613_10153761670958200_8060978715055

I convinced Mrs DW to sell her trusty AX and use this rather lovely Rover, but she wasn't really convinced. The following year, we sold it and flogged the Mini, but you'll have to wait until the 2006 running of this thread for that.

I'm having real trouble remembering what I was driving through the winter of 2005-6 though. Mrs DW was using the Rover and my 2CV was off the road undergoing one of its many rebuilds. The Trooper and Rover had both gone, as had the BX - and I didn't think the Audi had stayed with me that long. Puzzling.

EDIT - found some more pics. The BX was my winter steed! I remember driving it in snow and ice come to think of it. It was hopeless.

EDIT 2 - I'm really confused about the timeline. It's possible the BX and Rover didn't enter the frame until the following year.

2005.  I hadn't passed my test and was living in Sheffield.  I think I probably still had the Volvo back then, I may have just got rid of it, I'm not sure.  I can't remember if that was Chompy's Fiesta or Dad's behind it.

post-5335-0-39924500-1447186159_thumb.jpg

The Farina might have been around too, both cars happened at about the same time but the pre-digital pictures I've got don't have dates on them.  Was a good rescue that, no floors, no engine and no brakes.  Chompy did the actual rescuing of it from where you see it parked on the end of a rope behind a Series 1a Landrover piloted by Simon who was blind in one eye and could only sort of see out of the other.  Turns out you can demonstrate irresistible force versus immovable object quite well when the Landrover stops and the Farina doesn't.  The Farina made it back onto the road too, I vaguely remember Chompy and Simon welding floors into it in the pissing rain with a gasless welder under a very mobile canopy made from a big old tarpaulin.

post-5335-0-71103100-1447186201_thumb.jpg

The Polo was definitely around, I don't think it had yet been painted satin black so it was probably much like it is in this picture which I guess was around 2002.  Kept hold of that car for 12 years, gutted when I had to sell it when leaving Bolsover.  Dad's lovely old 740 too with it's gorgeous pearlescent paint, tan leather interior and those fabulous 740 wheels.

post-5335-0-43712400-1447186252_thumb.jpg

Chompy would know better than me, he's better at remembering what year what cars we owned were about.

Blimey Scary........you should be a millionaire with all those old Fords about the place........have you made a decision to collect them or have they just kind of built up over time?

Ten years ago I'd just bought my first XM, ten years old at the time and the newest and most expensive car I've ever bought. XMs are all I've ever had as daily drivers since then, though I suspect that my current one may well be the last.

2005 was actually quite a year for me.

This was the daily -

9599888687_e87e063f5f_z.jpg

1.8 TDCi Zetec 3dr with Climate Pack and some fancy stereo options. Company car obvs but I really liked it.

On matters more Autoshite, I sold this which despite really liking it I'd just lost my old car mojo so it was sold for a pitiful amount to a lad from Stafford.

[9603122342_e1454c0142_z.jpg

After twelve years of ownership the end also beckoned for my R5. Again I loved it and was genuinely sad to sell it but I'd let it sit too long and whilst it probably was restoreable it was way beyond my ability or budget

18236692742_f60e544654_z.jpg

As I was disillusioned with unreliable old cars I decided I wanted something relatively modern, reliable, fast and stylish.  Instead I bought this.

15361283066_d5c91814f5_z.jpg

And in fairness it was sometimes some of those things and when all its parts worked in harmony it was a cracking car. But it was an Alfa so we all know how that story ends (with the main dealers wallet pulling tool and my bank account gasping for air generally).

And that was 2005. A pretty pivotal year in my life in many ways.

Ten years ago I was still working on a farm, living back at home after giving up a shared house.

Daily transport was this series 2a with a 3.5 Rover V8 and a cherry bomb. I built it up from the remains of two, used the log book that matched the bits the most and ran it for years.

One of the donors had a SD1 motah which was banjaxed. It eventually stopped and so I spent £650 - more than I had ever spent before on anything - on a 30,000 mile 3.5 from a crashed P reg London Ambulance Service LDV. It was beautiful!!

Ten years ago Was an awesome time for cars. I was well and truly into bangernomics. I was (and still am) a hardcore Vauxhall licker.

Thainstone auctions a little north of Aberdeen was source of all my steeds for the period. Cars were cheap, auction fees were low....it was a beautiful time.

1.8LS Auto hatchback in white. The spec nobody wanted. Bought for a hundred quid plus maybe 30 in fees, passed the MOT with an exhaust and rear seatbelts from the scrappy as the previous owners dog had eaten the originals.

post-17837-0-51707300-1447186559_thumb.jpg

2 litre 16v ecotec minter, and I do meam MINT - not a scratch, not a spec of rust.

Bought for 100 quid again although I added the GSI alloys from my stock. One of the best cars I ever owned. Sold it to some choob from MIGWEB who did something dumb with paperwork that I cant remember the details of and landed me in shit somehow.

post-17837-0-69617900-1447186880_thumb.jpg

Turbo diesel GLX - aircon, electric everything, it all worked perfectly. Bought for a hundred bloody quid again and came with a second set of alloys with snow tyres in the boot and a Sony CD player worth probably 80 quid at the time.

Drove beautifully, But I had bought it as a "van" to renovate a house with. I abused it horribly, shovelling rubble and building waste into the back until the suspension bottomed out, taking it to the tip and shovelling it out again. The rear shocks failed and it had crusty sills. I punted it back into the auction a few months later where it sold for twenty quid.

post-17837-0-05291400-1447187132_thumb.jpg

In fact, here is a group shot, with the white one just visible as I broke it for spares.

post-17837-0-00658900-1447187487_thumb.jpg

I also had the V6 Calibra around then.

post-17837-0-04421800-1447187621_thumb.jpg

It was also the year I did this; which hurt like a motherfucker. note the head-sized star burst in the top right of the windscreen.

post-17837-0-67358000-1447187810_thumb.jpg

Other car stuff in 2005 would have been a 106 for the then ladyfriend21478, bought from the auction for about seventy quid iirc. A working head gasket was not included, though.

I'm struggling to remember which car I had! 2005 was the year we moved into his house and I started my job down the docks so I'm trying to remember what I had!

I remember my black Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique which we bought new in 2003, we sold it in 2005 as we bought the new house and needed the money.

I had a white L reg Peugeot 306 1.9 XLD which I used to to go to work and back in, around 60 miles a day and it was flawless returning over 50 mpg all day long.

We had a H reg Fiesta 1.0 Bonus which the wife used, that was mint with low mileage and even had a book the previous owner would fill in every time they got fuel from new.

I'm sure that year I also had a L reg Peugeot 106 1.4 XRD Graduate which I didn't keep long as it was gutless.

And I also had a V reg Peugeot 306 1.8 Meridian which replaced the Clio. That was a nice car but it was heavy on petrol and the A post started to split around the door hinges so I ended up selling it to someone who had won the money on Deal or No deal, as if you luck couldn't get any worse.

One of these. Not this car but the same colour and wheels. It was a 2.0 pez and while it looked amazing it only drove okay.

some great cars in this thread, 10 years ago i had (dont have a picture unfortunately) 1990 2.6 petrol swb isuzu trooper, that thing was a powerhouse,

i also had my mk1 3 door sierra but ive had that since i was 17

i had this curass blue mk6 escort 18si, i modified the engine and the thing went like stink, it also had suspension upgrades meaning it stuck to the road

blue%20escort_zpsgmxf9ci4.jpg

i also had a 5 door 1.8si in pepper red, i saved this from a garage trade in section, it had smashed bumpers and a caved in back door, it stunk inside and was caked in crap, i modified the engine on this one as well

pep%20red%20escort%202_zpsee5hkgne.jpg

i had my opel manta berlinetta

280520080041_zps7635cd7f.jpg

i had a mk2 golf 1.8 driver in white as well but ill have to find a picture of that.

as a bonus ive just found this picture of my sierra that i drove around with L plates on with my dad when i was 17, i bought this as a non runner, the paint was oxidised and scratches were everywhere but lots of elbow grease got it up to standard, these were took from photographs

DSC_0191_zps2e92d0a9.jpg

also an early picture of my mk1 3 door sierra from when i was 17, i had just addressed all the dents it wasnt took long after i had the car, the passengers quarter was pushed right in when my dad got it for me as the previous owner couldnt handle the 1.6 power and wrapped it around a lamp post, it was dentedall over as well

Sorry no pix available but in 2005:

Mk1 '83 Golf GTi - black, very nice, should prob have kept it, but it was just starting to go rusty in the usual places, as I was too busy with a new job role to weld it all up etc, I sold it later that year (owned since 2000) for twice what I paid, I dare say it's worth way more now!

'91 Fiesta XR2i - red (OK, dark pink if you didn't polish it) - was cheaply bought that year and OK to own. Good hack, kept for two years.

'85 Yamaha 350 YPVS - owned since '92, still own it now, was riding it just last week. Still as stunning as it was then!

'98 Suzuki 600 Bandit - my former daily town hack since '01, was sold on this year as job moved out of city, I was bored with it anyway!

'92 Honda XLR250 - Bandit replacement, great hack but bloody uncomfortable >25 miles, sold through lack of use in 2008 (repl with a 1200 Bandit). Wish I'd kept it.

And my driveway often looked like this:

Started the year with this as my daily:

Which I sold and bought

Which was a sack of shite and was swiftly replaced with

Fortunately the backup car was this

You have to take a test to leave Sheffield?

Let's see... in 2005 I was driving my 2002 Natural Gas flavoured Crown Victoria, and 'er indoors was driving a 2004 Touareg.  My 1994 Jeep Wrangler served as back up car, and the BMW K1100 LT lived in the garage and was seldom used...  wait, that means that nothing has changed in 10 years!

I may also have had these lumps sitting on the drive at the same time...post-19583-0-36225700-1447189750_thumb.jpgpost-19583-0-17304000-1447189819_thumb.jpg

Audi 100, Metro, LR Series III

All the bases covered! Posh, cheap and 4x4

2004 Galaxy 1.9tdi Ghia , dark blue with cream leather and loaded with everything that a Ford dealer principal could load onto his demo. I bought it with 13,000 miles and had put 100,000 extra on it in a year, never missed a beat and was only serviced once!

1989 Discovery V8 3 door , wasn't a G -WAC but was registered by Land Rover before the launch, it also had all extras including A/C - well it did till I cut the belt off. Used less petrol when it was towing for some reason. Also was completely rust free why did I sell it?

2000 Espace 2.2 td - best Espace we ever had, I wanted a dci when I got it and was pissed off I couldn't afford one , was grateful it wasn't in the end!

2000 Volvo S80 2.4 20v auto, it moved from work car to Mrs' car during 2005 and replaced

1994 Volvo 850 GLE 10v manual, had it for years the only memorable thing was that a neighbours brat put a crack across the bottom of the rear screen so I masked it with a sticky black plastic strip which made the back window 25% smaller and people thought it was some strange limo spec.

1989 Bentley Turbo R, 05 was the year I ( well the bank and official receiver) finally admitted I couldn't afford to

run it after nearly 6 years - not my best investment £19,000 to £7,000 ,probably just got back the running costs when I sold it! So £3.5k a year or less than a tenner a day - cheaper than 40 fags- result!

2005 was also the year my oldest turned 17 so I got an immaculate M reg Renault 5 Campus for £400- brilliant little thing, I found a Monaco in Oxford for £40 so raped that for its leather, bumpers and alloys- sorry Renault Lickers.

Umm. Nowts changed here.  Same old Pajero , same T4  .I think 2005 was the last time T4 had an oil change... The Paj has never had one in my ownership....

Ten years ago I was a mature uni student, and therefore even more poor than I am now !

I only had one car, a fairly knackered BX14. It had been involved in a crash, so I bought it cheap and swapped the offside doors and wing for scrapyard parts that were the correct colour but the wrong shade (Gris Meteor rather than Gris Quartz - I have no idea why I still remember this !),

It was a great car, good on fuel, spacious and comfortable. The running gear proved to be very reliable, the electrics far less so. The wiring diagram, a multimeter and a can of contact spray were in the glovebox at all times ! I ended up keeping it for five years, the longest I've ever kept a car in my life !

My toy was a MK1 Granada two door saloon and the work vehicle was a Tonka toy L200 crew cab with a tail lift which you can see behind it..

I also had a B3 Passat 1.8 saloon that was my everyday car....

I had an Alpine GTA Turbo and my Co car was a Vauxhall Vectra Design Estate

My wife had a Honda Prelude 2.3 (M reg), we both loved that car.

Ten years ago, was partly this Audi 90 Quattro Sport that I found in a scrappy for £275 (note massive amount of damage to the bootlid causing it to be a Cat D)

And then once that was moved on after I'd finished going sideways in the snow, I bought this

And I think for the full 12 months of 2005, this sat on the MIL's driveway and didn't move an inch

(seen here in 2009 pictures when I finally admitted it needed to be moved on if it was ever going to be driven again, and put it up for sale)

Ah 2005. I had a C Reg Cavalier Sri 1.8e Saloon. Which was erm fucking brilliant, and I wish I'd NEVER sold it.  There are probably pictures of it on Mk2cav.com but I don't go there no more.

and my wife had the J reg cavalier 1.8 Carb L Hatch which we owned 13 years and her dad gave her after he'd had it 8 years. I can't say I wish we'd kept it as all the time we had it I wished it was a mk3 4x4 130 SEH in L trim

Here's a picture of the Savanna pre-accident.

I bought it from a cartoonist who used to work on Judge Dredd and 2000AD.

In 2005 I had a brand new company Skoda Octavia in green.

But to makeup for this we had a P reg Hyundai Accent which really was a piece of shit

And I half owned a Rover P6 series 1 in Burnt Grey.

No pics at the mo, sorry.

He had replaced it with a Zafira, so yes he was.

Struggling to remember tbh.  I know I had the Volvo back then, and an A35, and a Mk1 Jetta, and a Volvo 740 estate, and at least one Saab of some description.  I think I still had my LT40 van then as well.  Possibly also a W123 230E saloon.  Unfortunately Photobucket doesn't seem to display "date taken" details, and I can't find the originals at the moment.

Just a 1998 Fiesta 1.25, bought in March 2005 I think, which felt like a Bentley after 3 years of dragging a very tired AX 1.0 from one breakdown to the next.  Alas it was riddled with niggly faults which plagued it for the next 2 years but it saw me through finishing uni, a road trip to Eurodisney, moving to Bath, moving back to Devon, 2 jobs and 2 house moves.  Its still around too, I still see it occasionally looking exceedingly rough.

The family car was a 1.8 Vectra estate which was great when working as it should, not too often  :-(

Company vehicle was a Renault Traffic which was ace as I didn't pay anything to use it and did loads of miles in it with the family  :-D
