Remove writing - but how do I do it?

Hi!
 

I recently bought some parts for my Pajero. They came from a breakers yard in the UK and sadly, they wrote the type of car it fits on it. Look: 

 

 

The writing is with a white pen, don´t know exactly what type of pen. 

 

Now my question: How do I get it off?

 

I tried to scrub it off and it works, but the black paint does come off too. Not what I want. 

 

What can I do to loose the white writing?

white spirit is my solvent of choice.... *sniffs...

If that's magic marker, a wet sponge and a rub (ooer) should do it.

 

Won't the lights be angled wrongly for LHD?

I only need the chrome-trim around the RHD-lights. 

 

I tried a sponge and lots of water. Nothing. I tried to rub it off. The black paint came off too, so not good. I tried soap and dishwashing liquid. Nothing.

You could always respray the black bits

That writing was done with a tyre pen.

 

Last time I had to remove a scrappy's writing off a trim part, the easiest way at my disposal was to scribble over it with another tyre pen then wipe it all off whilst still wet.

On the bright side at least they had a stock management system. Most breakers, have a random part generation system where all lights are put in a light pile, and then they can't remember what it is they look like, or whether they already sold it.

Can't beat acetone or panel wipe. Or try meths for the genuine tramp smell

Please don't try acetone - the paint will definitely come off. Meths may work though (or you could try Inlander Rum, Austria's equivalent)

I'm sure walking into the local Boots/Superdrug and asking for some baby wipes to rub all over your bezels would be fine.......

Panel wipe should take it off without damaging the paint or melting the plastic.

The parts are from a JDM-Pajero imported to the UK and signed as parts from a Shogun. Now they are on an austrian Pajero. Small world.

Next year I´ll throw a few thousand Euro at it. 

 

I´d like to make it more original again. The wheel-arches should come off, the original, narrow wheels are already in the shed waiting for the call and when the arches are gone, the whole car needs to get painted. 

 

Some small mechanical repairs too (exhaust, gearbox) and it should be as immaculate as my green one. But before that, it´s time for winter-fun!

Excellent thread, I am now inspired to go and wipe off the writing on one of the xm's wing mirrors which has been on the car for over a year.

Just got to find a way to turn the car upside down and shake it to get some petrol onto a rag.

A bit after the event, but I keep a tin of cheapo paint thinners in the shed for this type of thing.   Works brilliantly, and I should think the tin will last a lifetime.

 

When gun thinners don't work, my 'nuclear option' is carburettor cleaner, which is an amazingly effective solvent that appears to dissolve just about anything.  Wipe your wing mirror with that, and you'd probably find some of it on the cloth!
