motorpunk Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 This is tricky. Various publications want to review the book but some are insisting on mentioning it alongside James Dean. The whole point of the book is to explore and celebrate Rolf’s life, away from the shadow of thingy. Also, the family don’t like the association, which I understand and have respected in the book. But I also need the coverage to help flog copies to cover my costs. Am trying to explain this to deaf ears. Seems like James Dean sells books. But not this one.
colnerov Posted March 30 Posted March 30 To be honest, you've honoured the families request in regards the book. Personally I don't think you can be held responsible for any free press, or indeed anyone else, making the association. If the family don't like it they should take it up with them and see how far they get. Bradders59 and motorpunk 2
motorpunk Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 The family were really nice, once they understood my intentions. I’m a bit old fashioned and don’t like upsetting people. Some pics. lesapandre 1

Curious if any shiters subscribe to this magazine? Racking my brains to think of a VW dealer on Dover Street in Leicester. If we're talking Passat B2,that must have been 1981 onwards. At one point there were two dealers in Leicester,Nelsons/Bridge Motor Works who had a showroom on Abbey Lane, more recently a tool hire place and now empty, and Castles who had a place on Churchgate, now Langtons Furniture. Our friends bought a C reg Passat estate new, very similar to the one pictured.I'll ask them where they bought it from.It replaced an almost new Sierra base. motorpunk 1
motorpunk Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 Castles! That rings a bell! I was very young so might have the wrong place in the article.
AnthonyG Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Slightly stunned to learn someone thinks there’s enough of a market for a Lotus specific magazine! Maybe it’s all part of a very clever marketing ploy by Geely to grow the brand - there’s a Chinese built Lotus EV, an SUV which looks like a more tasteful take on the Lamborghini Urus, which although hardly common, is a lot more in evidence round here (Gloucestershire) than any of their post Elise sports cars.

Absolute Lotus! There’s very, very little EV/Chinese stuff in it, it covers their classic models, the company’s fascinating and turbulent times in F1, and modern sports cars. I think it’s been around maybe 5 years or so. I often write a column on Elise ownership in it and also have a feature in a coming issue covering Clarksons opinions and experiences with Lotus models over the years. Long story short; he’s mostly talks a load of old bollocks.
lesapandre Posted May 5 Posted May 5 They make a couple of sports cars one expensive - and the other very very expensive, at least last time I was in the showroom on Piccadilly London. Both very nice. Worth a visit. Staff were enthusiastic and very pleasant. motorpunk and Gompo 2
motorpunk Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 Am doing a two hour talk to the members of Great British Car Journey in Derbyshire one evening next week. Hope I can get there from day job in London in time! New stock of books in so I can sign copies for anyone who wants one. Looking forward to it. Also talking about doing a (probably rather sweary) podcast.
