Shitest vans

They don't like diagonal speed bumps that I do know . The transverse leaf springs get all confused and its rocks like buggery

Does anyone know why they (Sprinters) flash the reverse lights when they're stopped? It looks like as if you had an auto and were changing from drive to park and going through reverse. My mate's dad's manual randomly puts the reverse beeper on going forward too.

It's funny reading about Sprinters feeling dodgy to drive, they way I see them being driven you'd think they felt totally planted!

Maybe 4x2 Sprinters are okay but the 4x4 version is horrible to drive.

In the early 80s someone told my mother that vans were cheaper to insure than cars

I think they still are, my Caddy is quite a bit cheaper to insure than the equivalent car.

Our bloody Crafters do this too. The sensor for the reverse lights seems a bit OTT at times. Especially annoying in the rain, as it automatically turns the rear wipers on too, which always seem to judder and scare the shit out of you and the passengers. Bloody lovely to drive though. Makes the LT seem about 50 years out of date.

LDV Pilot, definitely. Failing that the most f**ked Transit Connect you can find, at 12 years for the oldest they are deffo shite now.

Of course, a Nissan Ebro (sp?) would make you a vanshite HERO.

I'd nominate the Talbot Express.

A friend of mine bought a couple of ex-London Electricity Board ones from Paddock Wood auctions, and would put them (& sometimes me) to work on various nice little earners.  One got hired to a fishmonger for a couple of weeks and then got put back in the auction because it stank even after hours with the jetwash.  They looked resplendent in oxidised orange paint and had a fibreglass hi-top with a canopy that could be slid out over the back doors.

I remember them being surprisingly quick once timed to run on 4 star and as quite pleasant things to drive.

I suspect there are very few vans left, probably due to rust.  There seem to be plenty campers though.

My Transit connect cost more than my MR2 to insure, both on 8000 miles a year and full noclaims.

Nissan Ebro? Spanish made thing that briefly hit the UK market during the mid 80s?

That's the one! I can't imagine there are any UK registered ones left, the van equivalent of a Seat Malaga. From what I remember they were epically shit, and rarely made it past 5 years old.

They made the MK3 Transit look like a combination of a Citroen DS and a Park Ward Alvis in comparison.

prolly cos reverse is next to 1st and the switch is adjusted approx 1-2 turns too far into casting- ergo slapping it in 1st pushes the reverse light switch

you used to be able to tell when a maxi driver had gone into 5th for a similar reason!

You'd think so, but reverse is next to second!

Many Splinters are Badermatic these days, driver shoving em in park when stood instead of using the handbrake?

Å koda 1203 1.3.

Not only slow enough to make a Nissan Vanette feel positively sporting, but with the added design feature of a chassis pretty much guaranteed to snap after a few years use through Czech winters. There are broken-backed examples littering the rural parts of Bohemia.

There's no 0-60 time. The 1.3 only does 90-95 kph.

They're still available new.

That Malta Bedford is ace where can i get one. It looks like someone's dropped an old vw van on top of Christine.

This one is in the early throes of restoration (documented on the blue forum). Interesting reading and a van I'd not heard of previously.

If it helps anyway I have for many years had a recurring dream that I was killed driving a Mk2 Bedford Astravan 1.6D when I pulled out in front of a Leyland Roadtrain.

Maybe one for the Autoshite low-budget remake of Duel.

My vote goes for a Fiat Fiorino 1.7D.
