Bentley Turbo R total shite! Now, Brooklands 'R' turbo shite....

I sort of rushed the post as I felt guilty for not instantly telling you guys about it! I absolutely LOVE this car!

It was funny to see it and my old Turbo R sat outside nearly together - the Brooklands looks much nicer. It feels great to drive, but, it is a real hooligan car! I did not expect that! I can't help booting it! Just been round the block and did a big smokey wheelspin round the junction and up the road. What the hell is going on? I don't drive like that any more...

The engine is just so eager and wants to go and there's no traction control.....

Specialist Cars didn't charge me for loads of stuff they did. Rust-proofing, fitting number plates, bulbs, sorting out rattles, messing around with the stereo for hours, loads of stuff. Good guys.

I need to get the tracking checked now as the steering wheel is not spot-on straight and that will annoy me, and I have got to het those bastards that did the paint to get the stripes fitted - they are ignoring me however I try to contact them.... I'm getting annoyed now. Any suggestions for tracking at mult nationals?

I too think you did the right thing, its a stunning car and has to be kept in top notch condition, cars like this cannot be allowed to deteriorate, look at the horrible shit Bentley are churning out now crass arsehole ugly things when compared to the pure class like wot this baby has in spades.

OK it stands you at £25k a fully sorted motor, if you went out and bought a one as good as yours it would cost you £25k anyway and it'll still need stuff doing on short order they always do.

Proper motors like this will never be cheap to own, but as two smoke says look at the bland modern shit that £25k gets you if you wanted to join the clones.

I got my tracking done on the X1/9 done at feltham tyres. Excellent service and £63 for a full four wheel laser alignment. They have a few outlets but probably none in Torquay. The transformation though was indescribable- I don't think it had been right from new.

And you'll get the money back on the Bentley. In 12 months the Mondeo will be worth half that.

There's a quote I like from "the good life". Tom comes out to see jerry in his Volvo estate smoking a cigar- you look like an advert for gracious living says Tom, I am relies jerry. Enjoy the good life and gracious living!

Are you sure Eddie? I make the tickets about £450 each.

Raffle? New Autoshite category... LOTTERY!!!!!!

The old girl is sat outside in the rain, I feel sorry for her!

The lads that did the paintwork are still ignoring me, it is beginning to grate a tad! All I want is the stripes on the drivers wing and they already have them, paid for and everything! I HATE it when people won't answer the phone to you/answer e-mails/reply to messages.

Where's the hidden compartment for illicit substa      dog biscuits ?

Lovely car , i do like Bristols..   :-D

I love Bristols (talking about the cars yes?) and have wanted one for years. But, they are even rarer than my bugger and even more expensive to maintain... and there ain't a specialist round every corner! They used to be cheap (ish) but prices have gone up rather a lot. I love the compartments behind the front wheels, great idea.

But (again with the 'but') it ain't a Bentley!

I have always wanted one. I really cannot afford one but I am as close now as I will ever be, so done it. I will live to regret it I'm sure! :)

I wanted an Interceptor as well until I drove one: just like a heavyweight 3.0 litre Capri to drive! Nice soundtrack though....

Sure as sure. 900 down on a 30-1 shot. Don't think wee, think BIG!

As I think I said somewhere further up the thread, your alternative was to chicken out and spend the rest of your life wondering what would have been...

While I baulk at the cost (and, if it were mine, would spend all the time it spent out of the armoured garage that I would inevitably build for it panicking) that really is a beautiful automobile ("car" is just too common a word for it.)

What a superb piece of machinery!! Glad you're happy with the car now... Looks ace!

Posted

I must admit I wasn't sure what the fuss was about but that looks bloody ace. Let's see the inside then!

Of course what we want it know, is does it feel like the qe2 trying to negotiate a roundabout or a mini with a supercharger?

I feel quite sick at the thought of how much this car owes me (|£25K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but, it's what I wanted.

The last bit is the important thing. To put the costs into perspective that miserable piss-bucket of an Audi I recently had the misfortune to drive cost about £20K, so just think - you could have spunked the lot on something as unbelievably hateful (and - in about six years - worthless) as an A1.

I realise now that my bad taste in cars means I get off lightly by comparison, but I was agonising over breaking my psychological £500 barrier for the CJ - and I wasn't even really spending my own money!* So I tip my hat to you, Sir. Hope you get great enjoyment from your Bentley, and may it leave your wallet the fuck alone for a good long while :-D

* dosh left over from the 205's insurance settlement after repairs.

I played with the brummer today, had the tracking done, went to Halfords and bought some clear lacquer and floor mats, to er, cover the fitted floor mats which cover the carpets... got to protect the Wilton from the muddy mutts feeties!

Discovered that if you stick your finger in the cassette slot when the CD is playing and press just the right spot, the speakers come back, so definitely the head unit - how odd! Also discovered that the clock (silent of course :)    )  stops when you turn the ignition off, really useful seeing as it's an analogue clock!

But other than that, had a hoot! It is great fun to drive and you can hear the turbo spool up if you press hard on the right hand pedal... which I would never do. It fair flies.

No it handles likes a 2.7 tonne car has no right to do! Corners flat, doesn't pitch or roll, no dive or squat on the throttle or brakes - that's why the active ride had to be retained even though it cost... It is of course really comfortable but the suspension is fantastic, and you can treat it like a sports car - handles a damn sight better than my MX5!

In the grump corner, the arse who sprayed the car is still trying to avoid me: I want the pinstripes fitting (already made) but he owes me money and is being a git - won't answer phone calls/messages and only talks about midnight through Facebook! I am getting fed up with it now....

They are staggering cars. The behaviour in bends just defies the laws of physics. Well done for getting it properly sorted.

Yes, it's a lot of money, but I doubt you'd lose much if you put it on the market now. Hopefully being parked outside won't harm it too much. At least they tended to put decent paint on these things!

Posted

Yes it cost but WTF, it's your dream car.

Good on you for doing it. Life is way too short.

Post up his email address and we will bombard him

Terrific car. Well done for having the "intestinal fortitude" to see it through, even if the bill did make your eyes water like a Boxing Day turd.

That looks marvellous. I know its easy to say when I'm sat behind a laptop running my Micra and Colt on a shoe string, but that's got to be worth every penny?

When I saw your News 24 updates about how much it was costing I was getting worried that you wouldn't feel you got value for money, but I'm really pleased that you seem over the moon with the car.

There's a Bentley and RR specialist really close to me. I know its not particularly near to you, but maybe worth keeping a note of for spares/second opinions should they be required - http://www.stewartwalkerltd.co.uk/

Looking forward to hearing about your trips in this :) Really well done. It looks perfect.

Do not like!

Stewart Walker is considered by some to be a lying ,cheating ,dishonest cunt. That is what some people think , after having the misfortune to deal with him, I couldn't possibly comment.

Posted

I can. I've dealt with him too and I thought the exact opposite. To be fair, I bought a restoration project of an old BMW from him, not anything RR or Bentley and he was a pleasure to deal with.

That's a beauty. It's not where I'd personally have put 25 large but I'm glad someone has just to keep these cars in top fettle. Glad you're finally enjoying it.

If you were more local I'd see if I could fix the head unit for you, although if it starts working when you press it in certain places then it's really likely to just be dry solder joints so they're fairly trivial to fix yourself, just get a flux pen, some 1mm solder and a decent ish soldering iron. Then just spend ten minutes fluxing up and adding a little solder to any joints that look cracked

While it's apart you might as well just resolder all the joints for the amplifier chips and the output socket - any components that's either fairly big or gets hot is a prime suspect.
