Cornhill Yard of Dreams II: Electric Boogaloo

One day as I was driving home I was waved down by a bloke as I passed through a village. "I have a Triumph TC in my yard if you're needing parts" he said waving towards a rusty Hillman Minx and a fence. I said I'd pop back when I had the time, today I did.

The chap who owns the place has had it since the early 1960s when he bought it as an overgrown former scrapyard, he cut down the 10ft grass by running an Austin 8 over it repeatedly and then tried the same tactic with the (much smaller at the time) trees. The trees won and cover the whole site now.

Now he takes in cars that are cheap or otherwise destined for the crusher. Abandoned projects, garage/shed clearances etc, what he can't sell he bangers. Cars that met such a fate recently include a Daimler 250, an NSU Prinz and soon the stretch Landcrab in the pictures. Guy seems happy to sell cars and parts and strips the cars for autojumbles before racing/scrapping. He recently bought a bunch of cars that were getting dragged out of a boarded up church from the scrap man and sold them on to restoration.

The yard has also been in Practical Classics "Rust in Peace" segment, he seemed rather proud of that!

I may or may not be considering buying the whole blue Dolomite for parts...

This sort of thing is a nice find... and illustrates the Banger/On-Hold-Parting out shell [waddya want, M8?] kind of balance with the Oval fraternity.

I want that Limocrab.  I can't have it obviously, but I really want it.  Can you ask if he has any Princess spares knocking about?  Don't know if I don't get you to ask.

The New Big Prinz looks eminently savable, and probably should be. Sadly, Scotland.

It'll be going to the autojumble at Alford later this year, along with the blue Dolly if I don't take it...

I'll ask about Prinny bits, Vulg. He also has a shed over near my gaff which is seemingly stocked with parts and a few older 1950s motors.

Apparently the Humber Hawk was driven into the yard, he took the points away to his house to clean them and never quite got around to it, they are still there and the car never moved again!

I wish my back garden looked like that. Cant think of when I last saw a Ritmo/Strada...probably about three years after they last sold them

The only thing stopping me having the Dolomite and the 1500fwd (terminal lack of funds aside) is that I'm fairly sure my landlords would turf me out of my house if I dumped them on the drive...

I love places like this too, Has the Triumph 1500 still got the carb, Looking for a reasonable price one for my Herald 1200, If I can get it to start then that may be the incentive to break out the welder I bought new 2 years ago.

OH NO. Cornhill is only about 20miles away. Please don't tell me where this is or I'll be forced to buy more shite.

In that case you must NOT be told that it's just after the crossroads on the road to Portsoy and the entrance is clearly marked by a knackered mid 50s Hillman Minx sitting at the side of the road...

Probably does apparently both cars drove in there...

If you need a hand moving them I've got a trailer.

May even manage to squeeze them in here if storage is a problem.

  • 3 weeks later...

It's the gift that keeps on giving, the Minx sat outside the entrance vanished earlier this week and was replaced by these two:

The Oxford was last taxed in 1988 has no sills, literally. You can stick your hand right up into the space where they should be located, you also have to lift the doors into place rather than push them closed. The Pao is in better nick, imported in 2003 and last on the road in 2009. I know somebody who wants it but I haven't managed to get hold of the owner yet.

Bit late for this year's A60 Amble... is there still racing at Cowdenbeath?

Cowdenbeath is still going, but this would be more likely to land up at Crimond.

There were rumours of Cowdenbeath's impending demise a few years ago so somebody built another track a few miles away at Lochgelly. Cowdenbeath didn't close, so now two of Scotlands three stock car tracks are within earshot of each other.

They have just announced another meeting for classics in 2016 at Arlington. This together with the Stan Woods meeting at Stoke, and pre75 meetings at Scunthorpe, Mildenhall and Hednesford means that hes not short of options

I don't think it's solid enough to brace up for Crimond...

Popped by again today to ask the guy about the Pao on behalf of somebody who wants to buy it. There was a Rover Vitesse present and I took a few pictures through the fence to see a 244 and a Bluebird hiding behind some stacked early 2000s crap.

The guy wasn't about so I walked to his house. The yard next door also contains some interesting stuff, mostly old Fords. Apparently the guy just races everything and very rarely sells anything.

The guy's house was easy to find due to the contents of the driveway:
