Logical* upgrade for your current car

A logical upgrade for my Alfa 156 would be a 159. I won't be going that route though. I've been bitten by replacing the dmf and clutch on mine along with about 6 suspension bushes as they seem like to be a service item. I don't think the stiff suspension and 17" wheels help. I wouldn't use the term moneypit but it does need work quite regularly. The 159 is more complex with a dpf too. My next car will be a bit older, simpler and more spacious, a 406, Octavia or 75 Tourer and cheaper so if it needs say £1k spending on it I can more easily justify getting rid and getting a another one.

My current daily smoker is a Citroen XM SEi.

Which means my logical upgrade needs to be complicated, ideally feature soft suspension, put comfort above everything else, and wood, leather and an autobox would be nice to keep;. I also like my foot operated parking brake.

Bearing all this in mind, the natural replacement for my XM is a Bentley Mulsanne.

I'd be obliged to upgrade my t2 to a split capable of a sub eighteen second quarter mile,

The 944 to a 964

And the Scarecrow to a Corrado.

Would I be happier?

a cd player for the rover 75, the optional one what should be in the glove box cos i'm growing weary of playing tapes in the wireless especially when vanessa feltz of jeremy vine is on.....

but that would be if, and only if i was allowed to keep the 75.

what could i change it for?

i would be thinking a newer 75 maybe, or an X350 shaped, aluminium bodied XJ6, the V6 weaselly deiselly version ideally.

it would be the closest thing to the 75 that i can think of that is in the similar vein but younger.

Triumph 2000.

Just like a Dolomite, still a late 60s design, still a Triumph, still bound to be a complete rot box, but:

+ MORE SPACE

+ MORE CYLINDERS

+ MORE POWER

+ MORE ITALIAN STYLE

In the POD house hold we currently have in order of purchase.

1) poverty spec 90 bhp mk1 mx5 Monza.

2) Broken Honda accord that is GOING SOON. Originally bought to replace the Mk3 cavalier 1.8 that was passed onto wifey,

3) 2001 Bini Cooper bought to replace the MK3 Cavalier 1.8

4) W reg mk4 Astra 1.6 16V Club with a genuine 24K on the clock

5) 54 Reg mk4 astra 1.6 16v sport with a "genuine" 34K on the Clock

Those who have driven the mK3 cAVAlier all agree that the mk4 astra is actually about as close to a mk3 cavalier as you can get.

Those who've driven a metro 1275 sport and a metro turdo believe the Bini Cooper to be the spiritual successor to any 1275 metro.

So Logical Upgrades ?

1) Mk1 Monza should be upgraded with a Cooper S super charger. (90 BHP becomes 170 BHP ?)

2) 54 Reg mk4 astra 1.6 16v sport with a "genuine" 34K on the Clock (Well that's what the Honda has been replaced by)

3) Generation one Cooper S (I have first refusal on one that has been seriously abused in terms of lack of maintenance)

4) I can't see it's possible to upgrade perfection. Perhaps one with giffermatic gearing, to match the giffer grey interior?

5) Should have bought a 3 door mk4 Gsi, but NOT brave enough.

have mk 6 civic 1.6

its a bit big

it used to carry the grandkids together but now theyre older that doesnt happen much

costs lots to tax and insure 'but i like a bigger engine for more vroom' (last car was na dizzle xantia)

and it does 4k a year and only uses motorways if i use it

so logic says i10 hyundai or mk2 insight or aygo or seat mii/skud citigo etc for 10 quid tax cheap ins and 60 mpg

My work car is(was) a 2009 530d estate, when I loved it the plan was to run it for another year then get a 3.0 5 GT, same engine, bit more room and a bit out of the ordinary ( or ugly)

Now it's shit it's cam chain and I'm scrapping it because I can't find a way of getting it back on the road for less than about £3,500 and with 180,000 miles it would only be worth about £5,500/6,000 anyway.

It's successor is looking like a Chevrolet Epica or Hyundai Sonata or whatever 5 year old saloon I can find for a couple of thousand quid.

Or this

Well I won't need the economy, or be going far, but I want something handy for taking the dogs out

Haven't driven the TR7 for years as I can't get in and out of it easily, I might as well have something comfy that I can.

Well, my situation is a bit complicated.

Right now my only forms of moving about are these:

9052-close-up-of-feet-walking-on-a-road-

And these:

5273564892_3ab51825ea.jpg

So an upgrade to a motor-powered vehicle would be a welcome upgrade.

Car-wise I do have this...

15624843445_29a12a7242_c.jpg

Which is now sadly crashed, so a logical upgrade would be this:

Mercedes-Benz_E320_wagon.jpg

Which I can probably afford but adding another vehicle to my hard to keep fleet would be almost impossible and very difficult.

I may be up and down grading at some point to this:

8675628439_c7692e8cd4_z.jpg

Which is an upgrade from walking/bus but downgrading from the Merc.

I'm currently wafting about in a Mercedes S210 320 CDI which other than being diesel is brilliant.

The logical upgrade for me would be an E55 AMG,or if I can muster up a large amount of money an E63 AMG.
