cars you will never own but wish you could

I am not talking about stupid money shite like a Veyron but normal cars that you would love to own but realise you never will. Mine is the Mitsubishi Celeste. My mate had one and I nearly bought it off him, until the MOT man laughed when I asked if it had passed. It would have been my first car and I have loved them ever since. I have searched for years but always miss out on the very rare occasion they turn up. I guess it's time to accept I will never own one...........

Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 2000 GLS, should've bought the green one I had the chance of for next to nothing 20 odd years ago, muppet.

3.0S Granada, Fiat 128 3P, Rapier H120, Renault 16 TX,BMW 3.0Si, Datsun 240k GT, Simca 1000 Rallye, Hunter GLS.

Tamworthbay mentioming Celestes has reminded me I wanted a GTO when I was about 12 just for the riveted arches, but when I was offered one for £200 in about 1984 I bought a Renault 17 Gordini instead.

In fact my list is mostly made up of cars I didn't buy when they were everywhere and I bought something else, a rusty S reg ex- Police SD1 instead of an immaculate BMW 2500 Auto because the Rover was faster and I was 19 for example.

Anything that does not require mechanical work/paint or welding.

I live in hope.

Cars I will never own: Daf 55 Coupe, Simca 1000, Land Rover of any flavour That'll do for now. Oh and a Chevy Impala exactly like the one in Supernatural.

Now you're going to make me start crying into my beer over the ones that got away. In 1985 I bought a 1967 Impala Hardtop, yes it was black, for £450. It was a V8 albeit only a 283, I ran it for a summer then swapped it for a Spartan kitcar which in turn I swapped for an A40 Farina.

My Dad still has the Spartan, I will never own a 67 Impala again either.

Citroen xm 2.1td manual, hatch or estate. Prices have gone past my bracket sadly, and the ones that havent are usually proper fucked.

A nice rust free granada 2.0 with cloth seats like dad used to have, again probay quite unobtainable under the £1k mark!

I see some past jewels in the posts above, feel like my life hasn't been in vain after all....

I think the one that got away from me was a 65 Mustang in 1984. I had an E21 316 at the time, it was already rotting in the boot floor and had the kind of service history that was only any use as an alibi.

God knows what might have been wrong with the Mussie for the sheepskin to even consider it but he offered it to me for the Bimmer plus £250. It was a 289 as well and seemed to run OK. I had the £250 but needed it to clear an overdraft so that the building society would advance the mortgage on an impending house move.

This bloody Ford just sat in this four-car showroom glinting under the tube lighting growling "buy me you fecker"

I sat in it and felt like Steve McQueen even though it looked more like a blue Zephyr 4 inside than a Highland Green GT.

My dear wife suggested we ought to get out of our flat into the 3 bed detached before another car came along.

Five years later the marriage was over and I chucked the keys to the house back through the letterbox and let the bailiffs have it all. I couldn't possibly have done any worse if I had bought the stallion....

Is it stating the obvious to say Talbot Tagora - I've wanted one since reading about it in ' the worst cars ever sold in Britain' book (some of my all time faves are in there)

Bond Bug- I think they're great but Mrs B says no way.

Pontiac TranSport- a beautifully wedgy MPV but much as I love them I just can't ever see it happening...

Citroen Safari - Daimler Double 6 - Austin Princess - Ford Zodiac MK4 - too many too mention really - Oh MG Montego ......

I would like to own a Peugeot 604, but never will,

There has been one knocking about on ebay at a sensible price. It's on Car and classic site now. I recommend them, best suspension evah!

Years ago I'd have written a long list of exotic shite here. Now I'm slightly more sensible and have a few quid I'm not bothered by most of it.

There's a few old Renners, Ovlovs and Fiarts I'd love but I'm not about to spunk my hard one dosh on some highly polished turd, not until prices get a bit more sensible anyway. In the meantime there's always more modern Japsy shite I suppose.

Unmolested Avenger Tiger.........oh yes.

More chance of finding an unmolested Lion in Zimbabwe I'd have thought?

Reliant Robin Mk1. Why did I not buy one when you could get an MOTd one for £150?! That was less than 12 years ago.

Skoda Estelle 130. The ones with the proper rear suspension. Sadly, you don't see cheap rear-engined Skodas any more either.

Vauxhall Senator B. I properly love the styling of these. Again, their either chronically rotten or picking up in value now. Plus, I can't really be affording thirsty six-pot fuel guzzlers. It's why I have a horrible-sounding diesel XM.

Citroen GS/GSA. Prices aren't stupid, but their ability to rot and slurp fuel is. It ain't gonna happen.

Still want a Bentley Turbo R. Just so much utter shit out there scared stiff to actually do it. Or a RR Silver Spirit...

There are hundreds of cars I want but no space and physically fucked so not going to happen.

I bought the Jag- turned out to be a mistake. sold it for scrap- do I regret it? Do I fuck.

If I had the financial wherewithal, I'd be on a Turbo R like a tramp on Chips

My dad ran big Peugeots in the 'seventies which is probably why I like them - very smooth riding cars.

I would also like to own an ISO Fidia or Lele. And a V12 Jaguar or Daimler - Series 2, XJ-S or XJ40, I'm not fussy. And a Mk2 Granada 2.8 Ghia. That has to be crystal green with a brown velour interior and quite specifically the higher grade Ghia which Ford made before the Ghia X was introduced. I'd quite like the 604 to be metallic brown, metallic red or light Ivory, with a tan leather interior. Automatic, obviously. Early car please, with nice mirrors and round fuel filler. While I am at it, I think I shall also want a Camargue - pre facelift with the wonky rear suspension but lovely chrome highlights on the flanks they so egregiously deleted from the late ones. A crime against style, that was. And an SD1. Richelieu red, very early series 1 automatic.
