Home Bargains 5w30 oil

Seen this in Home Bargains Viscol fully synth 5w30 4.5 litres. £9.99. There is the additional m2c whatever thing underneath. If I use this in a 2001 Focus 1.6 is it likely to explode? Its the right viscosity but will this be ok? Or have I missed something? It seems a bit cheap to me?

Personally....I wouldn't. It seems overly cheap for fully synthetic, I'd rather a trip to the factors and pay more.

It's made by Viscol in the UK apparently so surely the viscosity must be correct?

Made by Rock Oils apparently...

I've been using said oil in The Saab's engine since March with no ill effects whatsoever :)

I don't think you can necessarily go by price, according to the website its got all the right ACEA numbers.

I always keep an eye open for oil bargains, usually buy a multi pack of 5w40 synthetic when its about, Morris Vitalis (wasn't that some shit for gents hair in a previous life) or whatever its called is usually around £35 for 5 litres, i spotted a 4x5 litre pack for £60 free delivery which i promptly bought, so that's only £15 per 5 litre pack, and they won't have sold at a loss.

I always buy transmission fluids in 20 or 25 litre packs too, miles cheaper than the usual accessory shelf tat.

I actually bought the oil after perusing the information about it on the company's website.

Might give it a go in Autumn in the Mondeo - which is known for throwing the oil control rings out if you take the piss with oil change intervals.

Do it get a filter and you have done a oil change for £15 odd. Cannae go wrong.

I use this every time for about five years. Semi synthetic is £10, and full synthetic is £12.

I can confirm, it IS oil, so no worries for everyone.

Don't go on price, it just means they're not making the obscene profits that larger oil companies are. Ratings are ratings.

I'd use it and just change it a bit sooner than you would more expensive stuff.

Home Bargains used to do Gulf oil for about the same price which, since I am a brand-whore, I had a bit more confidence in.  Now I use Comma from the factors for about £19 for 5l.

I`m sure it will be fine. Major mark up on oil anyway

Cars aren`t as fussy about oil as some think.

My father in law does not give the slightest fuck about anything. He ran a daily commute from Ludlow to the Forest of Dean every day in a Daihatsu Terios ( around 35,000 miles a year )  in 3 years he never changed the oil. It used a fair bit but it only ever got given cheapest ASDA 20/50

It ended up blowing its head gasket and going to the auction but engine still sounded smooth

Great little car by the way

I am not recommending this by the way!!!!!!!

When I used to buy for my service dept, I used to buy Ford spec fully synthetic 05w/30 for little over a guinea a litre.  Admittedly the quantities were significant, but still.

I've just bought a tub of the semi-synthetic 10w 40, just to keep around for top-ups. The fully synth was £14.99 and the semi was £9.99.

I'll invest* in a tub of the fully synth if a do an oil change in the near future.

Also, Cadbury's brunch bars are only £1 a box in HB compared to £1.98 in ASDA. Best cereal bars ever.

Are brunch bars OK for my a35 back axle or do you think I need a baker boys flapjack? Its awful noisy over 35.

Carparts4less do 5l of fully synth for sub £15 delivered

May even be a pronouncable make?

Sod it. I'll give it a go on mondeo and see how we go. I'll report back in a few months, either with a recommendation of how good value it is or a serial of an engine rebuild.

Look at the back page of the very latest edition of that wonderful magazine Car Mechanics magazine for an alternative thought on this oil question.

Brunch bars all the way. When the chocolate chips melt, they provide extra lubrication, whilst the cereal and raisins have noise reducing properties.

Just bought some today £13.95. I'ts now got GM's Dexos 2 spec too now. By the way, Home Bargains has a unique policy for dealing with prospective suppliers: you just turn up to their head office with your product (appointment not necessary) and they guarantee that you'll be seen. They're a good employer too. My sister worked for them for ages.

Also, look out for their adhesives and sealants with a tiny 'Henkel' logo on the back. Top quality for pennies...

Are they full synthetic though?

A.E. Bennett (Viscol) Ltd, (established in 1861) is owned by Rock Chemicals (established 1928), a profitable British company. I'd say the risk is tiny to none.
