The Rolls Royce clutch was ready in Nottingham today at Ristes Rolls Royce specialist so I went to get it.  I took it back to Ian Rolls Royce ready for him to fit.

 I always thought my 20-25 clock is electric and broken. I watched a YouTube video about a 1934 20-25 with Hooper body yesterday and while his clock looked the same as mine it was a wind up clockwork one. Today I looked at mine from under the ramp with no floor boards and it is wind up so I am looking forward to giving a  wind to see if it works.

I took my Range Rover today instead of the Carlton estate I usually drive at the moment, I was fearing I would be stuck in a traffic jam and wanted an Automatic. Me and the Range Rover fell out this year over 2 large bills and having to wait 8 weeks for parts from Land Rover with the car off the road. This trip has reminded me how lovely it is. Having owned thirsty Range Rovers for over 20 years the fuel consumption on this one just blows me away. 165 miles at 47 mph and returned 38.3 mpg!

How do you know I did not collect passenger for the event regardless, if they wanted to come or not!

Two of the 5 have MGBs, one bought his Land Rover the other a Range Rover Sport. I did not see what the 5th member was driving but it was not his Capri or Escort RS2000 MK2.

Not a lot of car stuff to report so far this week, but I have collected the Volvo V70 T5 freshly serviced and MOTed today.

No more projects I said, but I hadn’t counted on Mrs6C introducing one!

Mrs6C was contacted about a forum car that was in need. So I told her to let the scrap man take it away!  Well maybe not, there is nothing I enjoy more than saving a car and experiencing a different car to drive. I was not able to do it myself even with the AS team as it needs some underside welding, exhaust repair, MOT and other things. I spoke to Mark at my favourite garage who says he is not working on old bangers anymore for anybody and he offered me a deal to bring it to him. If I removed the Volvo V70 without bringing him the next MOT car and took away the Manta he would see what he could do with the Mazda 323 GLX. A bit of negotiation and he gave in to keeping the Manta while the carburettor is being overhauled.

Yesterday @Zelandeth helped me collect the Volvo V70 and this morning I took the Manta Carburettor to be overhauled.

Today Dave at Windmill transport did the honours, collected the Mazda and took it to Mark for me. Mark says sometime next week he will put it on the lift but from what he can see it is saveable.

I owned such a Mazda a red 3 door 1.5 I really regret scrapping it. It had been used in salt free inland until the owner lent it to his daughter who took it  with her to school on the coast and lack of maintenance and the road salting there killed it.

I found it nice to drive from what I remember and it was surprisingly advanced with independent rear suspension among other things.

Electric windows, power steering...those are pretty big money toys for a small car like this back then.  My main memory of Mazdas from this period was always "pleasant but unremarkable" - Though that's a long time ago when they were £200 bangers that got a quick was and were chucked on the forecourt as trade ins to clear, and if they were still there after a week were chucked at the Thainstone auctions.

That will look a different car after a good polish.

Please someone make sure that top hose is actually attached to the radiator, the clip looks to be way further back than I'd expect, but it may be there's a really long outlet on the rad...

The only 323 of that shape I've owned was a 4x4 Turbo, and that was an absolute beast when it was running right (it had an overfuelling problem I never got to the bottom of).  I imagine a "cooking" version is a more pleasant alternative to a Mk4 Escort.

I remember going to look at these as a kid when they had been launched - must have been around 1986 I reckon. I've always liked the look of them, along with their underrated predecessor, the BD 323. 

Where's this one been tucked away for the last few years? I remember reading that it had been saved from the hands of a racer back in 2019 and looked super clean at the time, although not without it's issues. Has @BlankFrankowned it ever since the initial recommissioning was done? 

Great to see it given yet another stay of execution, regardless.

My mate Adam had one of those, it was mildly sporting with triple valve or big valve lift engine or something. Anyway he ragged it as any self-respecting young male would. It put its rod through the block on the M6 and the resulting oil spill caught fire. 

Being a resourceful fellow he wrestled the top hose off the rad and put the fire out using a jet of boiling coolant. 

His main concern was to save the expensive audio system he'd installed. 

I've always liked them, I think they're understated and handsome.

We still have the V70, Vitesse, ZX, 200TE, C15 on the road and the Xantia V6 broken. The only one that is sold is the Visa 17RD because we have another Visa 17RD.

I did think about buying this Visa back but remembered we have  4 other Visas that are not driven enough already.

Completely understandable. As I've mentioned before, really regret selling my old 17D. Had hoped the super E would be as good as that, but a Visa diesel (or gti, I also had a115ch ) is really the ultimate Visa

In 2002 I had a white 17D as an antidote to my 17 mpg Range Rover and that gave me a fleet average of around 30 mpg, after 3 years I sold it just because I wanted a change.

In 2007 I wanted another Visa diesel but could not find one so settled for a maroon 10E. The 10E was never the same and I started looking for  another diesel without much luck. Then in early 2009 the Club was offered a blue 2 owner Visa 17RD to rehome for free and because I had been actively looking, it was passed to me. What I got was 2 owner, 73,000 mile running car with a short MOT that had been street parked in Bristol all its life and was dented all over, Also it looked like a sucked smarty. A good ride home and an easy MOT a month after I got it meant I was ready to recover its appearance with replacement panels and a full respray. 

I traveled across Europe in our 17RD in the company of Mike Harker in his Visa GTi 115ch and could not understand why we keep having to stop for breaks. Every stop the GTi need fuel compared to my every other stop. Several years later I broke down in Germany in my Triumph Vitesse and Mike was good enough to travel with me to Germany to collect it when it was fixed. We took the Visa 17RD and Mike drove it home. The Diesel was a revelation to him now he understood why I never needed to stop, apart from sipping fuel it was quiet, smooth and comfortable running at 120/130 kph
