davidfowler2000 Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 True that. 63.3mpg on the eco run I did last week with a fuel leak. 65mpg at 70mph should not be hard vs 37-40mpg in the 740 at the same speed.
LightBulbFun Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 figured I should start looking at trains and premier inn before its too late and is it me or have they stopped doing the nice fast direct Euston to MKC services?, im only seeing 1 hour multiple stop services atm... no one happens to be going through/past London this time round are they? am happy to cover for fuel or pastries etc
High Jetter Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 Euston to Crewe has non-stop to MKC, 30-odd minutes LightBulbFun 1

LOL and Premier inn want £87 for 2 nights! if I just do the 1 night over the weekend itself its a bit better* at £48 (or I could do a Sunday to Monday for £39...) gonna have to think with this I think say @Six-cylinder hows the sleeping amenities in the Astra van, thrown an old mattress in the back and line the roof with some left over loft insulation? LOL
Andyrew Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 More ship yard than id like but solid enough. So thats it for welding i think . . I slap some mot red oxide on the rear patch of shame. Ahhh tits. Dick Cheeseburger, RayMK, egg and 3 others 3 1 2

Six-cylinder Posted May 22, 2021 Author Posted May 22, 2021 As some may know my 2003 Beetle Convertible came with the glass rear window that is trying to escape and taped in. I used the car most of the winter and now it has got worse so I bought glue to get it back together, but first it was too cold for the glue and then it rained and got wet. The forecast is that it will be reasonably dry and warm for the FoD weekend and I am hoping somebody might help glue it back together so I can drive around topless! LightBulbFun 1
Crackers Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Can I also put my name down for a day please - most likely Monday, but possibly Saturday instead? LightBulbFun, Six-cylinder and Mrs6C 3

Either or both is just fine. Last year between lockdowns the typical max headcount was low 20s so now with the 30 limit I am sure we will be fine. Crackers 1
Crackers Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Sweet, thank you. I'll PM you closer to the time to find out where I'm going. Six-cylinder 1
wuvvum Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Well Buckingham Travelodge has gone up to 95 quid a night (!) so that's out of the window. So it's either drive down in the Trafic and sleep in the back, or drive home in the evening and back down the next day - the diesel C2 will do here to FOD and back on 25 quid which isn't bad really.
Ghosty Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 I was going to bring my new purchase to test camping suitability but part of the roof is made of glass and may or may not leak. I might need to investigate that. I know I can sleep on the back seat of an R8 comfortably, but the brake discs are fubar so another long journey isn't a great idea.

bobdisk Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Should be going there, with the Kitten, on Saturday. I am after a favour on the day, will anyone have welding gear with them ?? LightBulbFun, Mrs6C and Six-cylinder 3

Ohh, I know the main field bit is busy doing field stuff, but id love to have a pootle around the kitten in the available paddock area if thats possible/ok! 5 hours ago, bobdisk said: I am after a favour on the day, will anyone have welding gear with them ?? 3 hours ago, Floatylight said: Been tried on the carlton recently, generator wont run a welder.. @Six-cylinder's here a good excuse to get the milk float working if I ever heard one because then you could hook up a big mains inverter across its batteries for use when a FoD resident needs welding, or someone needs a cup of tea (and then you can strap some solar panels to the roof to keep the batteries topped up) bobdisk 1

I feel theres a slight bit of a miss communication going on here! LOL what Im recommending, is once you get the milk float going, just a get big DC to 240V mains inverter which you can connect across its batteries so you can then plug in your regular 240V welder or any other 240V devices at the FoD like the aforementioned kettle (much more versatile then a welder-generator)

We will need to fit a roof on the milk float for the solar panels and for that we need to weld on some new brackets as the roof we have is not the original one. LightBulbFun and Floatylight 2

I only ask, as I've welded on the end of about 600m of cable before now.. that's over 1/3 of a mile of cable (although it was 6mm2). Had to turn up to the next voltage tapping as mains was down to about 200v at the welder, but it worked a treat. BlankFrank, LightBulbFun and Six-cylinder 1 2
Zelandeth Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 Sadly we've got a skip booked to be here that weekend intention being to clear a lot of the crap out of the lofts and garage. It's going to be brutal and I'm not going to like it (psychologically or physically) but it needs to be done. Can't do it myself so long weekend is the time to do it as that's the only time I've got help available. So no jollies out that weekend for me - not that it really makes a huge difference as I'd not feel comfortable widely socialising until fully vaccinated anyway. I will however absolutely definitely get the Toledo carb dropped back off this week so that can be a tinkering option. Feel bloody awful it's taken me that long to get it back.
