Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - Getting ready to play car Tetris

Ready for the weekend I took our Mercedes-Benz to storage to collect our Daimler-Benz as my weekend transport.

The Mercedes has fully working air conditioning, the 1973 Sovereign doesn't, my landlord at storage was about and thought I ought to reassess my decision!

After the embarrassment of having to call @Prince_of_darkness91and @Mrs6C when I run out of petrol on the road side in the Metro the other night I thought I had better fill the Sovereign. Max sale is £120 at Tesco so I put £60 in each tank, that is 17.2 gals of the 22 gal capacity in the twin tanks.

My 10 and 6yo will be there if they want someone to play with!

(assuming their not 23 or something 😂

9 and 10. If they we’re driving age I’d have them driving me back. I’ll give them another opportunity to say yes.

I haven’t had chance to check the x1/9 camping carrying capacity yet. I have a funeral in the 2cv tomorrow and should be back mid afternoon to be able to check.
oddly the funeral is south west Middlesex ( which doesn’t exist) crematorium. Reception in the very posh Hampton court motor yacht club.

A nice little outing for the Daimler tonight to a local classic car gathering and back on the same tank of fuel!

It does run a tad rich. Really needs some adjustment to the carb. settings. It's still great, though :-)

Maybe they could get the opportunity to drive something there? Even if only a mower :)

Sadly, this is the only weekend in the foreseeable that my parents are free for a visit…

Was really looking forward to this too…

I am bored, what am I going to do in a field all day!

Once you have drunk all the tea you can manage, you could go off site to local attractions or bring your own stuff to fix.

Better still fix our stuff!

·         Fit the engine back in our Saab 95 and make it run

·         Wire the headlights on our Peugeot 404

·         Tidy the bodywork on the Peugeot 404

·         Make a moped or two run again so we have site transport

·         Can we make it run, Vauxhall Royal edition

·         Replace the wheels on our Herald 1200 coupe and get it started

·         Replace the wheel bearing on our motorbike trailer

·         Pre pare fire wood for the Camp fire

·         Cut timber slats for shelves

·         Replace the rotten bottom board on our 8x4 trailer

·         Take the cylinder head off our Carlton 2.0i estate

Yes we did, then a heater hose popped off so I refitted it and refilling it I got an airlock. 3 miles later the radiator was stone cold but the engine red hot. The head gasket has gone again.

I plan to have the head off this over this coming weekend, an am not expecting good news...

Sorry all I have is "a lightbulb moment" in a can, maybe it might give you a good idea or 2?

(I feel sorry for anyone who comes across a box of these in the post apocalyptic future "Yes! some canned food! we will make it through this nuclear winter!" *is a load of canned 60W lightbulbs*)

I have a walking route planned for Sunday morning. About 8km.
tent, sleeping Matt will fit in the boot, parasol may need to go in the passenger side. Bag and cool box and tools in the front.

what time Saturday? I need to do some food shopping first.

Personal mobile mechanic!

Actually the tent, Matt and parasol are all in the rear boot. Toolboxes in the front. Just leaves beer, food and clothes.

The 205 has come out of the garage for the first  time since March ready for a run down to the FoD on Saturday. I did notice some oil on the floor when I got it out so it'll probably need a top up.
