Six-cylinder Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 Today I collected my Rolls Royce and did about 30 miles. The clutch works really well now it has been replaced. Trouble is if I crunch gears now it is lack of skill on my part rather than a mechanical fault! The fuel gauge now works and that turned out to been a wiring problem at the gauge end. Fortunately Ian Rolls Royce who has been doing the work had a wiring diagram for the 3 wire set up. Surface Rust, RobT, grogee and 22 others 23 2

Six-cylinder Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 I have posted my end of year tat report but here is the extended version with some aims for 2025. In 2024 1968 Morris 1300 2door 1983 Renault 4 GTL 1995 Volvo 940SE 2.3 LPT auto Estate. 1984 Austin Mini Mayfair 1989 Mazda 323 GLX 1.5 Out 2024 1989 Volvo 480ES Auto 2003 MG TF 1995 Volvo 940SE 2.3 LPT auto Estate. I have not run many cars of my existing cars in 2024 and as we all know letting good working car sit is bad for them. Running all the free tax cars that were not taken out are a priority to be driven for 2025. 1971 BMW 3.0 S 1983 Citroen Visa Special 1978 Lancia Gamma Berlina 1978 Citroen GS 1971 Triumph Toledo 1974 Citroen Ami 1976 Daimler Sovereign S2 1979 Ferrari 308GT4 1963 Peugeot 404 1970 triumph Vitesse 2.0 Convertible 1966 Jaguar E Type 4.2 FHC It has been a difficult year for me with my back and mobility, which explains why I have used only a limited number of cars this year. Also it has been the reason we only did one FoD open weekend. I have had a lot of help as usual this year and thanks must go out to @Slowsilver who had done something for me most weeks. Along with @Talbot @juular @MrsJuular @Andyrew and @ianbmw I have also had help from Slowsilvers friend Thomas who has a Mini Traveller and Adrian who sold me the Saab 95. Last year Colin from Milton Keynes Classic Car Club helped me at the FoD, particularly with the Peugeot Error 404. In April he asked if he purchased a 1979 Mercedes 450SLC from a bereavement sale at a local garage could he have it delivered to the FoD to get it going. It had been off the road for 25 years. He came over often and eventually he got it going. Colin informed me about a project 1984 Mini Mayfair from the same garage that had been sitting 25 years so I turned him down as another project car was one to many. He asked me again using seductive works like “bargain price” and I still turned him down. Then one evening at the FoD he offered it to Andyrew who also turned it down but still said it was a bargain. It was at that point I caved in and the next day I had a rusty Mini with a seized engine and a door missing. Colin helped me take the interior out and at that point I realised there was too much welding to do. I told Colin I would be selling it on again because of all the welding. Nonsense he said my mate will weld it up for you and I thought lets pick another welder of the tree fantasy! A few days later Colin said I have spoken to my mate Geoff and he is happy to weld it up for you. I said he had better come and see what is involved and to my surprise he came over and said it is not as bad as I have done for myself. Welding sorted. The Mini now drives, it needs a couple of jobs and the interior refitted but the weather has shut us down. The big purchase success of 2024 for me has been the Morris 1300 I bought at the beginning of the year from RobT. It has often has been my go to car this year. I also bought the Volvo 940 Estate from @RobT when the cambelt fell off. I had it transported and repaired then enjoyed it for a few months repaired before selling it on. £345 road tax for an extra car is just so furious! At the beginning of the year I bought the Renault 4GTL from @wuvvum, but the need to remove the dash because of jamming wipers has put that on hold for now. I still like it and maybe 2025 I can find a way to fix it. Other success for 2024 has been the return to the road of the Carlton Estate . Cars that will become free road tax April 2025 1. Austin Mini Mayfair date first reg 29-1-84 – Currently on SORN but fit to drive. 2. MG Metro date first reg 23-8-84 – Currently on SORN but fit to drive. Just one car that will become MOT optional 2025 1. Citroen Visa Cabriolet date first reg 1-5-85. Current I am hoping in early 2025 the 1976 Opel Manta 1.9 Automatic we got 3 ½ years ago will be ready for the road. We are also hoping the 1989 Mazda 323 GLX will be ready to return to the road early 2025. Other cars that during 2025 I am hoping to return to the road 1996 Land Rover Discovery 300TDi 1996 Mitsubishi Sigma estate 2003 Fiat Seicento Active 1974 Saab 95 1979 Vauxhall Royale There is also a plot afoot to return the under nourished 1.8 poverty spec Carlton saloon to the road, if I like it or not! I still find it hard to comprehend that in 8 months the pile of scrap Mini I bought is now a safe, legal, running and tidy Mini! LightBulbFun, Wibble, MrsJuular and 29 others 29 3

Thinking about the classic cars loan project, could you do something similar on a smoller scale? If only to get some used, and extra assistance?

Six-cylinder Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 Today did not go well! It started with the V70 not starting and having a totally flat battery so the dead locks are stuck and I cannot just pull the bonnet catch. It has an intermittent battery drain somewhere as it had only been 2 days since it was used. Phil the mobile mech came to finish putting the manifold etc back on the Sigma. The really bad news is when he got it back together he found the engine was locked and would not free. Before we took the heads off it had a sticky spot but then freed up and we spun the engine on the starter motor. We ran out of daylight and gave up to ponder the problem. I tried to get the bonnet open on the Saab 95 but just could not release it. I think I need a 90˚ pick and 90˚ screwdriver to try again. On a happy note I sat in the Carlton Saloon for a bit and found there are 5 cassettes in the cars storage draws. Coprolalia, IronStar and grogee 2 1

Six-cylinder Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 A nice little car gathering for Lunch today at the Dukes Heath & Reach. It is so nice when the pub welcomes you. A special low cost light lunch menu for our group was provided, as our leader has pushed back the start time from a breakfast meet because it is really rather cold to stand outside and admire cars at this time of year. It is a joint meeting with the Jaguar Enthusiasts club hence the bias to Jaguar. Usually there are a good spread of cars but today some people choose not to run there cars on dirty damp roads. Not us the V70 was already dirty and went to the ball. The Volvo V70 had a flat battery Thursday so I charged it but it did not start so I tried another charger yesterday and still it would not turn the engine, just a clicking noise. I put my high load battery tester on the battery and it is giving 6v just off charge. For a short term fix I borrowed the battery from the Carlton as it was blocked in by the Volvo anyway. Six-cylinder Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Tomorrow I am planning to go the Brackley town classic car show. A decent weather forecast for this time of year has temped me to get out the Rolls Royce for the show tomorrow. The fuel gauge has now been repaired and was showing approx 7 gals petrol. I added 5 gals of petrol and the gauge now shows 12 gals so I am very hopeful it is working properly. Coprolalia, Mrs6C, DVee8 and 16 others 18 1
