Six-cylinder Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 It looks like Saturday is going to be a popular day, we should use the whole site, in effect zoning ourselves and keeping to our social distancing. Not sharing food and drink in the way we have in the past. Using our own tools. Wearing gloves when touching cars that others are also working on. Even using our own chairs or wiping the plastic ones if we do use them, I believe we will be able to protect each over. Don't forget your antibacterial hand gel. chaseracer, mat_the_cat, catsinthewelder and 2 others 5
dozeydustman Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Just had a look at the line up for the weekend. I’ve always fancied a drive in a Herald.... I doubt I’d fit in one being 6ft 5 and the size of the planet Jupiter...... Christine 1
Tadhg Tiogar Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 I think* I could make Saturday for a go on moped/scooter/quad-bike. Have helmet, just in case..... LightBulbFun 1

Zelandeth Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Would be really nice to actually speak to another human being for the first time since February so I'd really like to get along, even if it might be a case of largely staying in the car. If Sunday is looking like the quieter day that would probably be my target. Probably bring the van as it's easier to be sociable and chat to someone from that. So I'll aim for Sunday. Assuming this doesn't get vetoed by management or the situation changing in the next week anyway. beko1987, Six-cylinder, LightBulbFun and 1 other 4
Six-cylinder Posted July 5, 2020 Author Posted July 5, 2020 My first task today was to move the 735i away from the hedge as next door wanted to finish trimming his hedge and needed space to work our side. The BMW had a flat battery and that locks the deadlock system so you can use the drivers key. Fortunately the club had taught me a couple of ways to get in so I could open the bonnet and put a jump pack on it. I got it running but my neighbour has not wanted to do the work today so the car is now on charge, It is a big battery and will take at least 2 days on the trickle charger. Six-cylinder Posted July 5, 2020 Author Posted July 5, 2020 Second job was to move the BMW 323i and that started on the button ready for a visitor tomorrow. Next job was to start the 1 ton dumper at the FoD as we may have a job for it and it has always been difficult to start. No amount of towing it would bring it to life, it made dumper like noises but no smoke. I have booked an agricultural engineer to come look at it but he can't come for 2 weeks. wuvvum Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 I'm actually half tempted to trundle down on Friday afternoon (got the day off work) and stay over - Travelodge in MK is only 25 quid for the night, would save getting up at the crack of sparrow on Saturday morning. Tadhg Tiogar Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Looks like Saturday for me, but I don't think the CX will be ready by then, so it will be diesel Borat instead Mrs6C and Six-cylinder 2
Six-cylinder Posted July 5, 2020 Author Posted July 5, 2020 The next task today was to start the tractor and move the farm trailer. Mrs6C was not keen on the quick fix of jabbing a wire from the starter to the battery to get round the gearbox inhibitor switch that does not allow the starter to operate even if the high/low box is in neutral. We had taken a large adjustable spanner but it turns out the round top of the inhibitor switch is larger than the flats to undo it and the max thickness of the spanner is about 3mm. we made a cardboard spanner that tells us the jaws need to be 29mm. Does anybody coming next weekend have a thin spanner 29mm or non-metric equivalent? Back to jabbing the wire on the battery and the tractor started very easily. Next problem is the trailer had sunk in the ground and had to be jacked before it could be connected on and away it went. Next thing I know there was a tractor causing a traffic jam! loserone, LightBulbFun, Coprolalia and 3 others 6

Zelandeth Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Can't be much between the dumper and running... it's an old school industrial diesel...you need compression, you need fuel, you need air. I'm sure I could swing by to take a look sometime this week if you think it would be useful (assuming it's not vetoed by management here). Been a while since I did battle with an old school diesel like this. LightBulbFun, Mrs6C and Six-cylinder 3

catsinthewelder Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 I don't think I've got much on this week so I could make a 29mm spanner out of steel sheet if that would help? Six-cylinder 1
