Pride Of Longbridge 2015- PIX P5

Its now 10 years since the implosion of MG Rover, apparently there may be something special to mark it at POL 2015, and I'm tempted to go.

Has anyone been before and its it any good? I can see there are threads on here from previous years but at the mo my computer or the search function on the site isnt playing ball. Anyone else thinking of going/ what was it like in previous years if you went?

I've been three times (I think), usually go with the MacDroitiwich lot but the first time I just went myself and did the Services > POL convoy.

The show gets bigger and better each time, but it's usually pretty dull - the beer and BL/everything else banter afterwards is why I go.

Last time I tried to go it was chucking it down and the wipers packed up on my Fiat as a tribute to BL.

Don't know anything about this year but I have enjoyed previous years, loads of cars, a few clubs do things but it is not very club based at all s all parking is done by model as they arrive. Some find it a little samey as there is no other entertainment.

I will be there this year, god knows in what.

It's a show where absolutely sod all happens, just a field full of cars, most of them quite crap. Really, it's Shitefest in all but name. There is usually a ridiculously huge turnout, so this one should be even bigger. I don't think I've ever turned up in something Rover-related. Got carved up by some Rover-driving dickhead last year, presumably because I had the audacity to turn up in a Daihatsu. I parked outside.

We've been told at work it'll be 'a bit emotional'.

It would be if the phoenix four tipped up.

Your 220 was there in 2013 and 2014, so you have to keep it up!

It's a big selection of Austin/BMC/BL/ARG/MGR stuff in a big park (read slopey field) outside the factory. Historians will note Cofton Park is where all Red Robbo's Union rallies were held back in the day.

There's a shitload of cars but not much to do otherwise, you can buy a burger, look at MG Motor's latest offerings and laugh at some tat-encrusted 75s and ZTs. There are probably more Metros in one place than in any other event.

There are clubs but they mainly just park their cars together. There is some interesting stuff though, highlight for me last year was both a pre-production landcrab and prototype wedge.

It's a good laugh if you arrange to meet with some like-minded nutters/enthusiasts. There is normally a good selection of Midlands based shiters there. Like DW, I have never attended in an eligible vehicle so just park nearby.

I went last year, great if you like looking at BMC-Bust tat, boring if you don't.

I'll be there again this year probably, but only because I've other reasons to be in the Midlands around then.

I've been at least once, completely failed to run into anyone else off here and wandered off home slightly disappointed. There's always a good turnout of rammel to look at and I imagine that it's a good laugh if you've got somebody over the age of eight to talk to.

If you're a militant MGR licker you'll love it more than Neo-Nazis love the War and Peace show. There was a reasonable amount of BL stuff up there when I went a few years back, lots of Allegros especially, but Rover 75's seemed to outnumber everything.

I really like Rover 75s. I may even borrow one and go in that.

Otherwise, my MGF is covered in greb, will that be OK? I'll obviously clean it, but funds preclude me from lading polish 'pon it.

I spent 5 years living just off the Lickey Road at Rednal, and have happy memories of sledging with my new wife in the snow on Crofton Park.  Haven't been back for 19 years.  Also Rednal Library had the largest collection of autobiographies associated with the motor industry than is healthy.

I'd like to go in the Mx5 or the Accord. (Just for the laugh)

I enjoyed the show very much with the 220 in 2013, last year I was away but this year I no longer have a Longbridge built car having sold my ZT-T as well as the 220 but I might be able to borrow a Metro, I think it is well worth going if I can get my self sorted.

Last time I went I sat in a fire engine.

I might pop along on the train, I'll still be about Wolves in April.

Still debating with myself whether to bother going or not. I love the cars but for some reason, there is something about the atmosphere that I don't like, I really don't exactly know what it is.

That said, the last couple of times I've been I did enjoy myself. Met up with shiters where we all sat in my Sterling (whilst it was cold and raining outside) and I got try out a few cars.

I don't have a Rover-related vehicle on road and not entirely sure I will do by then, but I intend (half arsedly) to get my 820E on the road.

Just slap a bit of masking tape over the badges, no one will know any different.

I'll be there. As usual I will be avoiding the Twat types in Z's with baseball caps, tracksuits, BOOM BOOM Dubstep etc etc

It is a decent event. It's true there's nothing to do but wander around and ogle tat. If I can get there I will, to kick off the year's events it's alright.

Posted

I was thinking of taking the Sterling, but I really don't think I can be arsed. SOZ.

I'll probably go this year in the 75. It's a good event but it also helps if you have others to banter with, a field full of tat can only hold my attention for so long. Plently of oddball BL/BMC nutters to observe too.

Posted

might try and go as now have a Rover 820 with straight through Hornet Bomb exhaust / sure that would upset the anorak twitchers

Posted

Yeah I think I'd be up for it this year, as I've never been before and keep meaning to. Not sure what in yet, the Maestro is a Cowley car but I think it's old enough to be eligible anyway.

Posted

Do they get much pre war stuff turning up?

Posted

Yes. A fair smattering. My friend is usually there in something pre-war.

Dicky - I'd try and get on the Cowley Convoy if it's happening this year. It's where the Oxford lot get together before gatecrashing Birmingham's party. Which makes it sound more exciting than a load of Montegos and Princesses travelling up the M40. Must be quite a spectacle though. Maybe I'll try lurking on a motorway bridge this year.
