What shall I have next?

May be looking for a new daily that is Mrs_outlaw118's fucked knee compatible.

Madam has buggered knees, but at 50(ish) is deemed too young for a knee replacement, and my work health insurance doesn't cover her.

Needs to be badermatic, and have a fairly high seating position, so she can just slide in, rather having to bend knees too much like she has to in her Fiesta, and my Leon.

Her bezzy mate has a Nissan Gashguy, and she was quite impressed with that, but I'm deffo not having one instead of the Seat, and she reckons it's too big for her to drive.

So, i need suumert she can drive - auto -  not too big, fair on juice, etc etc.

Looked at a Vauxhall Meriva, but the shop was shut, so i couldn't have a sit.

Am I after the moon on a stick?

Yes, I know it's a modern car query, but objectors can kiss the widest part of my fat spotty arse.

A Nissan Prairie with autobox. Problem solved!

I'd suggest a Fiat Panda due to a slightly higher seating position - great little cars IMHO.

However their auto (automated manual?) boxes don't seem to last as well as the manuals.

A Citroen Xsara Picasso* - highish seating and utter shite through and through - keep it 15 years & it will be worth a minto.

* I assume you can get them in Mills O Matic flavour.

I can't help with the car (unless I had one for sale, then that would be the exact perfect match for you), but has your Mrs considered microfracture surgery?  At 45 Mrs Pirate was too young for a replacement too, so had this done on her left knee earlier this year, and it's been completely successful.  Going in for the other side in December.

Saab convertible. You can always pretend it's an automatic.

I second Corsaviour suggestion. Nice big engine but perhaps with a special edition lightweight* roof option. 😊

My father bought a Ford Fusion to cope with my mothers reduced mobility. Its just a fiesta with added tall-ness, basically.

It had what I would consider to be the most horribly plasticky interior I have ever seen, but went well enough. Prices seem to be in free-fall. His wasnt a cripplematic but I would be surprised if you couldnt get one.

A Citroen Xsara Picasso

That would require being seen in a Citroen Xsara Picasso though.

Get a small van or a people moving equivelant like a Peugeot Bipper or Partner Teepee, if they are anything like the '13 plater that I was driving for work the driving position is quite a bit like a chair rather than a cars usual seating position where your feet are up.

Don't forget Renault autoboxes of Autoshite vintage are notoriously self-destructing because they're a sealed non-serviceable box and you can't even check the fluid levels to top them up. They basically get to around 100k miles and eat themselves, then it's an expensive engine and gearbox out job to fix it for what is basically a £5 part buried in the far end of the gearbox. When they work they are nice and smooth though.

Can't comment on Citroen but the boxes in the Peugeot 207 are utterly horrid. The gearing is ridiculous and they eat fuel. Ours went wrong *just* inside the warranty period and it was £500 in parts plus labour, so we got lucky. But 207s are CHEAP. So that's the trade off.

The VAG DSG box is gr8. Boss has one in a 10-ish year old Golf and it's miles better than any of the competition. Earlier conventional VAG autos aren't bad either.

I've tried the newer auto in the Fiat 500 too, so same as the one in the Panda. This is the one which is more like an electronically controlled automatic-changing manual box. It's very slow to change gears and respond to changes in throttle. I'd have a drive of one before committing to one because you might well hate it.

Yarises(eseseses) have a very high up seating position and got very good write-ups in Which? for older people who were less able to flex their joints. They definitely come in auto flavour and probably aren't horrifically expensive?

Hmmmm, re: budgets, if we're going to replace my car, then thats the budget, pretty much.

If we replace hers (2008 old shape Fester 1.6 Ghia Mills-o-matic) it'ss be car + £2k ish.

Fatha_Outlaw has a Fusion, and I have to admit, it's a proper little thing, 1.6 TurboDizz, in "Plus" spec.

I've pointed at Pandas and been given the "meh" type response, but i will try and get her into one to have a proper look. Been told that the autoboxes are a bit pants though....

Back to work, will catch up with this later, cheers for the input so far chaps.

The Fusion is the most obvious choice, as it's the car she already has, just taller. Always thought they were a bit grim inside. They are probably worth a little less than the Fiesta, so you'll get an easily get a lateish one. They stopped around 2010 I think.

A first generation C-max is another thought, although the cabin if anything is grimmer than the Fusion. Saying that I've only ever been in a pov-spec (lack of) 'Style' one. It's essentially a taller version of a mk2 Focus.

Daewoo/Chevrolet Tacuma.  Bought for exactly the same reasons, in 2.0 petrol auto flavour.  It's lovely.  MrsR is delighted with it.  It isn't the most economical choice, but there's more to life than MPG and sometimes other criteria have to take priority.

Fusion is a good shout, as are Picasso and C-Max.  MrsR tried herself in a Picasso and liked it.  Suzuki Ignis is available as a 1.5 auto and should be the right shape too.

Also, at the risk of getting shot to bits again, PT Cruiser.  Seriously!

There's only one real solution to this problem.

You will need to get used to never getting a parking space though:

Nice one DW, beat me to it with the Daihatsu suggestion :D

If you want higher/bigger there's the Terios 4wd thingy as well. Apparently they're gr9, I've been toying with getting one as well.

A Terios like this?  OK, this is the Perodua Kembara, but it's the same car, basically.  This was my rental in Cyprus last year and while I liked it, MrsR found it slightly on the high side for entry/exit.  It was auto though, which was nice.

Nissan note.,suzuki ignis, sx4, modus, all easy to get in out off, all available auto, avoid pamda autos...horrible horrible things, as are any of the i shift automated manual things.

Thats the badger Mr Ramrod. I'm going a bit OT, but how did you find it for space? up front and boot space?

There was discussion in Daihatsu circles that the 1.3 auto's are pretty quick off the mark as well, maybe not 0-60, but 0-40 sort of thing.
