Is that the bit of the original "Italian Job" they cut out?

I don't think so but the trouble is that I nicked it off FaceBook where nobody attributes anything so I cannot tell you where it actually is/when.

I've done a bit of GoogleFoo and the best I can come up with is that the image was uploaded to this page where there are hundreds and hundreds of images - none carry  any meta data or hints as to where/when/who
https://www.facebook.com/Series1948/photos

It may be an Argentinian rally (Rally del Sol) but that's an off-piste AI suggestion based on the Spanish writing on the LandRover.

The recovery Landie is a  Ser 2a (or maybe a Ser2) at 109" - that's the full input from my own (ex) Land Rover licking past

I imagine that back then a BMW 5 series was much more of big deal than today.

That e12 has a plate which may 1 FOV (it’s now on a 2010 Jag XF, none of the others I tried were recognised), which adds nore to the impression of big shot.

Can’t possibly think why the police would have a Mini Moke.

For patrols in Portmeirion?

As an aside, I saw something the other day that reckons the Italian job Landy first appears in the scene where the mafia are doing away with Roger Beckermann, right at the beginning of the film.

I've not watched it for ages (although it'll probably be on over Xmas again) but I've never seen that?

Don't ring a bell - I recall a bulldozer, and a Lancia(?) but not a 109" - great excuse to rewatch it (I've watched the remake once, that was enough, but the original is just sooooooo cheesy)

I recognise those W.M.P.T.E. (West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive) 'buses! They took me from Alum Rock to Aston University for 3 years in the late 1970s; routes 14, 26 and (I think!) 82. Memories.......
