Dartford Tunnel Crossing, 1983/84 Autocar 28/11/84

Scan from Autocar 28/11/84. Volvo made it to 2000, Marina to 1990. Bridge added, booths gone, tolls still being collected, congestion still there....

I probably went through there that day. I remember chucking a fistful of loose change into the basket for the toll. One day I was a bit careless and a 2p missed the target. I had no more coins , so added considerably to the queue while I waited for someone to come over. Grumpy guy graciously* let me off the 2p, saying next time he’d send me back across.
Put up with that for most of the 80s.

@Skut A chap in or near Wendover Bucks used to drive his Coronet (an Ivory coloured one) around the area when I lived there in 1964-66.  It was a good looking thing but very low slung compared with most other vehicles from  that era.

Look more carefully.

Lorry's rear wheel is on the curb.

"Bloody pot holed pavements"!

I worked in Hampshire when this lot was around. They trundled form Greenham Common to Wherwell Wood. One report, I think from ITV, made a fake convey and that trundled through Whithurch, that was to shock the villagers.
