  1. 1. Museum and chippy run or stay closer to base?

    • Museum please. I'll have chips with that.

I'm keeping this separate, so we don't clog up the main Shitefest thread.

I have planned absolutely sod all so far, other than ensuring we have a field nice and close to a place selling food and drinks (and possessing a wood burning stove just in case it's chilly).

I did get a bit carried away with convoy ideas. I'm going to pare that back to just one outing I think, though if folk want a super-scenic-Sunday drive, I can make one up at the time.

Our options for Saturday are two-fold. We can either loiter around in a field, or convoy to the Internal Fire Museum (about an hour away) for their Night-time running session. It's between 6pm and 9pm and they run all of their many engines.

Is this something folk want to do? The scenic drive there could stop at very-pretty Aberaeron for fish and chips (other options available). If you don't fancy yet more driving, I'm sure there will be passenger space in other ol' shite to enjoy. It would mean that if folk arrive after 5 or 6pm, they might find the field a bit quiet for several hours. I know folk trekked to Shitefest '13 and ended up missing everyone. I'd like to avoid that. But, with an evening do, I guess any day trippers will probably have departed by then.

EDIT - admission for this evening event is FREE!

As discussed, they also have an 'orbital' two-stroke Fiesta prototype. Anyone got a spare Mk3 Fezzer bodyshell?

Wasn't there one in the Bargains thread the other day?

I voted happy either way, but then that seemed really wet so I plumped for museum.  It looks cool shite and would be fun, though it's hardly a dealbreaker.  Thanks for thinking about our entertainment needs  :-D

Edit: can't believe I said 'cool'

I voted for museum as it looks like an interesting place to go. Also, fish and chips.

I'm as content to stand in a field drinking tea as I am going for a trek.  Funds are my limiting factor, as always, but a trek out to the museum could be both entertaining and a suitable opportunity to get to grips with the little Renault if the plan all goes through as it ought.

I'm happy either way chaps, heading down Friday morning so planning on missing none of whatever happens.

The Museum sounds good but my only concern is that after a 5-6 hour drive to get there I might not be arsed to drive anywhere else, I'll see how i feel on the day.

I'm sure you could bag a lift, if it came to that.  I'll have acres of brown nylon velour you'd be very welcome to recline on  8)

Everyone should talk really nicely to brookjm. After all, he is bringing a Peugeot 504 taxi...

It certainly makes sense for folk to cram into cars if possible, rather than have a load of cars all with one person inside.

Just had a quick chat with the museum. Entrance for this event is FREE! Absolutely zilch. Share the fuel cost amongst a few people and it's a cheap night out!

I'm planning to potter over on Friday, drink until I am wankered, wake up consume coffee, look at manky old chod in a field and go home.

To that end, I have not voted.

I'm more decisive about "bike or car" to get there. There's a similar poll going on in my head right now

I wonder if I can get my arse in gear for this...what's the date again?

Posted

I would have voted for the museum-and-chippy option as that constitutes a perfect Saturday evening as far as I'm concerned, but since I'm not going to be able to attend, I've taken the "irrelevant" option instead.

I'm probably not going but can I suggest as a possibility some of you meetup somewhere along the machloop (http://www.lowflymedia.com/info/mach_loop/mach_loop.shtml) for a bit of plane spotting before driving in convoy to shitfest.

I've been planning on going there for a few years now, I'm sort of in the area in July (camping and all I've been told is north wales) so hopefully make it then.

the government publishes a timetable of when they are flying but apparently it's about as acurate as my spelling

16th-18th May.

Mach loop might be fun but yes, the timetable is utter tosh. They come quite low over our village at times, but not often at weekends.

bike - welsh roads - the bolox

Car - Welsh rain - it's bolox ;-)

I like the idea of the museum (although the idea of sat around a fire talking crap also appeals), but could I request a lift please? I'd like to have a drink or two when I get there, so wouldn't be able to drive. I'd happily pay more than the cost of fuel to cover the hassle factor.

Musuem & chips sounds good to me! Do you have battered chips in Wales or is it just a Black Country thing?

Posted

Can I just turn up to this and bring me tent ? I'm really tempted to bring the Lancer over or my L300 van but cant 100% commit at the moment.

Anyone else going from sunny Yorkshire to wet Wales !!

Posted

I have voted museum, with the proviso that some-one will give me a lift as I was rather hoping to have sunk a couple of beers by that time of the evening.

Posted

If all of us piss eds need a lift will the always sober organiser prepare himself for an article in the motoring press about being a North African taxi driver and drive 17 of us there in the 504 ;)

Posted

Well I won't be drinking so doubtless there'll be some spare seats in the 220 if the 504 fills up.

Posted

If only there was someone going who didn't drink and had access to a minibus... ;-)

Posted

I don't care, so haven't voted.

The museum sounds nice, but when the time comes I'll probably just want beer.
