Shite-tastic !!! Almost as good as a Bitter SC, and nowadays the Royale is probably even more rare !

Posted

Would it be the ex-Practical Classics one from a few years ago? Regardless, good work, Royales are top quality tat!

Posted

The best thing about Royals are the velour interiors that usually match the outside colour.

There are two Royales here on this drivway. They've been there for over 10 - 15 years.

Here's the link to google streetview - you may have to switch it round to view it, as Google have fucked around with the interface and made it even more difficult and awkward to do anything (again):

Yes, gold velour shagtastic interior......................I shall be beating off the hos with a stick. Only rust in on the sunroof panel, it's even the Pieberg carb model for added shite points.Pics tomorrow! Show me an old Vauxhall, I'll show you the money!

Neede a winter smoker, bought an old Hi Lux with a Truckman top, which I've discovered won't fit in the underground car park at work, and I've got nowhere to store the top, so I swapped it [provisionally] for this. I can think of no two diametrically opposed vehicles.

With winter all around, the only sensible thing to do is swap a Hilux for a Vauxhall that likes to rot for fun on even dry sunny days.  WBotY contender.

It is surprisingly rust free. test drive tomorrow. Apparently is ruiniously juicy to run..............so great result all round

Thing is, once you're sat inside that cabin the outside could be on fire and you just wouldn't care because you'd be snug in your crushed velour and vinyl.

Posted

With the reputation of ye olde Piebrg carb, fire could be a distinct possibility.............

Holy shit.

You have just become autoshite world champion.

I hope you are wealthy and I hope that you are skilled in the art of MIG.

The velour seats are the only things that are immune to rot on these.

Check the car EVERYWHERE. Check the front tyres - if they are scrubbed do not assume it's an alignment fault, more than likely the strut towers are beginning to meet in the middle.

Rear of the sills, rear subframe, front chassis legs, front and rear valance sunroof aperture all go big time.

Take some overalls and a screwdriver - a bit of prodding may reveal some real horrors.

If it has a carb check to see if it has an air filter - a dodge on a knackered carb that runs rich is to remove the filter, but it does'nt work.

The solex 4a1 carb is a complicated piece of kit that not many know how to overhaul, bear in  mind that even new they only did around 14mpg urban.

I would have another, a saloon in aquamarine blue please, like my last one, which bit the dust in the summer of 1990.

These are lovely old cars, I've had a couple of the saloon versions but never a coupe, I'm no mechanic but I know some of their tricks so if you need any info let me know.
Are you sure about the carb being a Pierburg because the standard ones were huge fuck off 4 barrel Solexes with more moving parts than a Mini.
If it helps, the carbs were shared with early non injected 6 pot BMWs and IIRC the first Bentley turbos. :-P

The interiors are something else though, and so comfy. This was the one I had a couple of years ago, but the first one was exactly the same as this.

Back in ta 80s I got a lift in a white one from one end of Mull to the other and was mightily impressed...nice work mate..

Does it have an MOT?

Thankfully, no MOT needed over here..........Viewing at 9.30 this morning. Fall back option is an Alfa 156![Haven't had an Alfa in ages]

Duly purchased.....apart from sun roof panel, rot free, strut tops are like new, never been welded, must be one of the most original ones left. 78k miles. Onlt fault is that panel, and a leaking r/cover gasket. Pics to follow.

Is that true?

Can you just drive anything?

Or is there an equivilant?

Well done. One of my favorite interiors, along with the Opel Rekord.

As someone whose parents once owned a silver Royale 2.8 saloon, I approve 100%.

Looking forwards to seeing some pics. :)
