Sure'y if it's got a big end knock then that's it, you can;t really do anything about it. Thicker oil may disguise it for a while but you'l need a new engine sooner or later. Good used lump time!

Fuck that. Bridge it. Save some more money and buy something else French from here.

Agreed Lankytim.

A diesel flush will clear the sludge and tidy up the top end, but its not going to stop knocking. Too little, too late in my opinion. It was well on its way when I bought it.

The oil capacity is 5 litres. We could only get about 2.5 litres out through the drain plug though. Hmmmmmm.

No it isn't, the oil capacity is 3.5 litres, if you've had 5 litres in it, I'm not surprised it's a little upset!

It's not a bad looking motor, I'd be half tempted to take a crack at it myself if I could clear the decks here a little bit!

Indeed. I'll see if I can find another £400 car to spend an extra £350 on, then scrap.

I am TERRIBLE at Autoshite.

Or amazing. Depending on how you look at it.

Its never taken more than 2.5. obviously checked on the dipstick as correct level after settling.

But the Haynes and the workshop manual quote 5.

Are you not thinking of the 1.1?

I'd imagine a little hunting should find a good used lump for beer money. You just have to fit it then.

You've defo had a fair share of bad luck in the shite game lately. There's no way you could have known with this one you killed it by doing the right thing and servicing it.

All the TU series, even the 16v take 3.5l when changing the oil & filter. Good luck finding a lump, the autograss lot gobble them up as soon as one finds it's way on sale, it's the same as an Ax GT lump IIRC.

I was just looking at a bottom end on ebay for 130quid. Would take some balls to buy it and switch over all the gibblets though

Oh man, sending good luck viiiiiyyybbbzzz in your direction.. :(

Drive the fucker 'till it drops.  Then bash another lump into it.  As Ruff says above, the grasstrack boys like the 1360 TUs but you should be able to get one cheaply enough.  MY TOP TIP- lurk on the 106owners forum (warning, most are stroppy 17yo's) and wait until someone converts their 1400 Quicksilver into a MEGA 16V GTI BRUV.  E voila, one 1360cc lump going for a song..

Are these 1360's all the same? There's loads of 1.4 306's knocking about, an engine for one of those must be pretty worthless.

Posted

Or buy one of the many cheap Saxo VTRs that seem to be appearing, and go for 1.6 POWAAAAHH. Then strip wheels/kit/trim to sell to Wayne and bridge the rest.

DO NOT WEIGH THIS CAR IN!!11!11111!!!!11!1

I think it's mainly the change of head that dictates the power/ fueling/ fanimold differences.

There are differences like cartridge oil filters compared to spin-on canisters but the housings all seem to just swap over.  I'd go for as early as possible if you have the choice as the number of belt teeth changed and you wouldn't want to mix all that shizzle up.

Mind you, I did notice on the later TU3 there's an extra engine-to-gearbox mounting.  Didn't make any difference when I put an earlier engine in 2005 206 though..

Bollicks! Did the oil have bits of metal in it?

Feeling same pain with two cars - is just run it until the engine disintegrates.

Yep, defo. Only this time order yourself a nice Peugeot turbo diesel from the comfort of your own armchair. Simply send payment to CavPugcraft then come and collect at a date to suit yourself me.

Drive it until it goes bang then get another engine of the bay.

I'm sure the Autoshite Hyundai Pony express can relocate one (NB a year 2000 1360cc citroen engine may not work in a 205 for many reasons, don't listen to me for advice!)

Its all very well saying swap the engine but if you've not time/space/money/skills to do so it's not quite that simple it plus how do you know the next engines not a plum. Look at the hassle mr B had with that Rover van and he at least seems to know what he's doing. If it was me I'd be trying to pass it on to some who had the time and inclination to fix it for a couple of hundred quid.

Posted

We are planning to swap the engine, but as said, finding one that isn't fucked is the gamble.

Like for like is preferred for ease. Next option is a VTR lump, but that, along with all other options, still entail swapping the car over to injection.

Station, no swarf in the oil. 2.4 litres and it is still a smidge over full on the dipstick, also.

Posted

Late tu engines aren't a straight swap, they changed around 92 in electrics & bellhousing patterns, and then again in 93 to injection, some of which were iron block.

Cheers RG, thats helpfull.

You were right about capacity too (obv)

Engine/Transmission oil is listed as 5l.

Engine oil is 3.5l

Transmission oil is 2l

Fuck knows why they put Engine/Transmission at the top in bold. To trip up people like me probly.

Good job we checked it on the dip a few times.

The OP needs a GTi. GTi6 with no front, a snaped dr handel and lol m8

All. Problems. Solved.

EFA.

Genius.

I would just drive it till it exploded, but then I have previous of leaving motors with kerploded engines standing in the yard for months while I build up arsedness.  :-(

Tis a shame, as it looked like it could have been real nice the way you were going with it.

I just had a quick look at Copart as you often see 205s in there and look at this!! OUCH

Yeah, its pretty much accepted that they dont crash well.

Not like Smarts for example.

Posted

Engine/transmission oil 5l.

That will be for the early suitcase engined ones. Simlar to a mini gearbox bolted to bottom of engine.

Posted

Wor Will has stacked a few in his time, none as spectacularly as that one however.

Didn't someone on here have one they were breaking a while back?
