Shitefest Cymru - 16th-18th May 2014

Oh gawd, bad luck Phil, now I feel guilty for sailing off so early seeing as I was on the same route as you, what time did you leave?  Well done for nursing it home.

I made it all the way home to, er, Wales, without breaking down once.  I've now got the hang of the SD1 on the twisties, too - I annoyed some people in a black Kuga by leaving them way behind on the open roads but daring to slow down through the villages, thus preventing them from flying past doorsteps at 55.

Fantastic to see some familiar faces and meet lots of new ones too.  I don't think any of the same cars were at Shitefest 2012, which probably says something about us.

Thank you to everyone who let me drive their car.  That wouldn't happen anywhere else, which probably says something too.

A fantastic weekend, brilliantly organised by DW.  Don't want to gush on so will just say thanks a lot.

Edited to add:  Aw bugger, looks like you had a bit of an adventure there Phil.  Glad it worked out in the end, in a Lancia sort of way.

I'm not sure any cars other than the Lada have been to more than one Shitefest. Did the Rover make 2013 Joe? Oh, hold on. Council Estate has done two Shitefests I think?

Dad is talking about digging out his lna for next year .

Sorry he didn't let anyone drive the Bx but its his baby and would cry if anything happened to it.

I is LUV all these stories and photogs and am sorry to have missed the chips and the museum of great big enormous fuggen engines.

At the wanky classic car show, nary an Italian heap in sight.  OK, a couple of Alfas, but mainly over polished Britstuff.

I parked up and managed to cause some hilarity, but was amazed to find how popular the shitbox Lanica appeared to be.

GUSHY THANKS MOMENT

Many thanks to everyone who came to Shitefest, and those who wanted to but couldn't. That wall of initial enthusiasm kept me sane when I was planning stuff. A meet is nowt without people and cars, and the mix of both was truly superb. I like Autoshiters.

I'm particularly keen to thank the SVM for the food situation, and those who also donated food, gas, cutlery, milk, tea etc. This morning was a bit of a help-yourself session and worked pretty well. Thanks to Richard for the use of his refrigerated cool box and Mat_the_cat for the use of his camper van nightclub and heater.

Thanks also for those who drove to the museum, those who helped tidy up (folk were pretty tidy, so it didn't take long), those who made fire and those who took photos and video. Can we do it again now?

Well that was one superb event. Great to meet everyone and put faces to usernames. I got to drive an SD1 thanks to Skizzer  :-D Even the dogs seemed to be having a great time.

Much respect to DW for organising the whole shindig.

Here is a link to all the photo's Geoff took, he has signed up as Geoff D but not been approved yet.

Oh & I almost forgot that I won a sheep in a raffle. Only at Autoshite lol!

Yowza, let's do an autumn gig.

What everyone else said: Big thank you to DW and EVERYONE else who came, it turned out to be better than anyone dared hope. The test drives and banter were spectacular.

A Chumley do in Autumn?

CatsInt'welder is possibly still en route back down the M6 to Ludlow.

I successfully deposited him and Bucketeer at Chez MicraShed after an ace ride up the scenic way, and arrived home an hour later, 10mins before schedule at 6:50pm. As a result I'm still in the good books with Mrs_KJ. That, and the fact I arrived home with just the one white Rover 200...

Council Estate made SF12 and 13, my 216 disgraced itself with a dizzy cap issue (un-diagnosed at the time) immediately before the Malhamdale do, so was abandoned at home. The Samara has done two Chumleys, and SF13 and 14.

I've been dropping hints all weekend to SWMBO that I could be at shitefest right now. Hopefully she will let me go next year and I'll have some actual money to do it!

Sorry I had to dash off this morning, woke up a lot later than planned. Had a nice drive back, lovely empty roads, was back in Kington (Hereford/Wales borders, close to my folks) in about a hour.

Was great to meet you all and drive some prime chod, as well as a couple of genuine 'cl##sics' - the P6 and SD1. Many thanks to all who let me drive their cars 😃, sorry I couldn't reciprocate with the diseasel Jag.

Also thanks to Six-Cylinder for ferrying me to the museum and back, was very interesting discussing motors with you and I have a new respect for the Northstar Cadillac Eldorado, it can really move and is surprisingly adept at the twisty stuff.

I echo what others have said - Ian, well done and many thanks - it was an excellent weekend. The hotel was top-notch too and amazing value for £55.

What the lady at the museum was trying to suggest, was that they have the 'other' one. Haynes have had that one for a while I think. Bet they haven't been trying to get it running with random bits of wire though, and I bet the Haynes one has never worn an Autoshite sticker...

Sorry. I've followed the link now. Some of us knew about the RR link but it's a while since I saw that thread.

EDIT - in fact (my brain hasn't recovered yet) it was probably that thread that alerted me and made me ask if the museum still had it (or a previous thread here on Autoshite linking to the RR thread)

Well I got home at 2am this morning having seen maybe five cars in the first 80 miles of the trip. Trade off was missing the scenery of course.

I had a fantastic time. Massive thanks to everyone who trusted me behind the wheel of their car and special thanks to Dollywobbler for organising the whole thing, finding a wonderful venue and superb museum to visit.

Hello Chaps

What an absolutely fantastic weekend,  it was great to meet friends old and new.

Many thanks to Ian for putting it on, Sam,Joe,Brook and Richard for driving me hundreds of miles and those who were happy for me to drive they're chod, Barefoot and the SVM for culinary delights and everyone who attended for just turning up and being fantastic folks :D

We passed Gary Cox in the middle of Wales traveling in opposite directions home mid afternoon and I'm sure I saw Richard in the 850 at the M6/M53 junction about 6.30.

It was great to finally meet Marty and the Cherry is great,  it whisked me home without complaint and was quite good fun on a strangly empty A49.  I've been home for a bit putting the kids to bed,  it's not that slow ;)

Home safely with the Cadillac, this is the first run since we bought it and all is well. I was surprised at how nicely it drives.

I Popped in to say Hi to friends who live on the route home with out phoning. I pulled into there road and it looked likely they were in, as her PT Cruiser was there and his Discovery but something was not quite right, take a moment and I realised there were two of each!  As they explained, it so so happened they both decided to change there cars last week for the same again and had not sold the old ones yet.

Just in the door, other than the previously mentioned Mazda incident all in one piece; Volvo used 105 litres of pez in total over 696 miles, meaning this was showing at the local fuel station. Moar pics tomorrow :)

I arrived home about the same time as CMS206 having had to stop for petrol on the way home. Autoshiters are the best sort of people and it was brilliang meeting everyone. Many many thanks to Mr. Wobbler for organising a superb weekend and everyone who trusted me with their P&J. That Samara was a bloody riot and should be at every shitefest.

Pictures and such tomorrow. Right now I'm off to look at P6s on eBay and dream...

I was the first Scotlander to arrive home and immediately made full use of the shower and other luxuries upon arrival.

I have to say it was one of the best weekends I've had in a seriously long time even if I was catastrophically unwell.

Great to meet some familiar faces and new ones as well. Special thanks to Mr Wobbler for organising it all and to all the folk who spent the money on fuel to let everyone else have a good razz in their cars.

Photos to follow tomorrow probably but first it's time to get a good nights kip.

In Other News...

The skin that was exposed to the big ball of fire in the sky has all went dark brown. What's that all about?

Oh, I nearly forgot:

Trigger - massive thank you for the SD1 launch special edition of Motor, I've just been reading it. There's a lot of brave talk about build quality and optimism about Rover's long term future that makes me feel slightly sad, but they did like the car.

Anonymous user - your magazines found good homes! And the RAC badge is now adorning the grille of one of the many fine Volvo estates. Suddenly I can't remember which one, so it must be bedtime.

Roll on Chumondelumley.

Friday morning

SwYMsrll.jpg

Sunday evening, the 850 did 850 miles over the weekend and it was 366 miles from the petrol station to home- a bit more actually, because I forgot to zero the trip. I think I'll have used just short of £120 in fuel, which represents damn good value for all the fun I had.

Thanks to everybody who let me drive their cars, and gave me food/alcohol. It was a fantastic weekend, the location couldn't have been better. Thanks to Dollywobbler for all the effort he put in to make it happen.

Well, what can I add? Thanks to Sloth in a Bowl for the lift to one of the best vehicle events I've been to for ages! Big thanks to Mr Wobbler for arranging a wonderful itinerary including a fine evening meal of chips by the sea then one of the best museums I've been to in a very long time.

I met (and no doubt bored rigid about bus shaped objects) some wonderful people from all over the country and was amazed at the sheer diversity of chod available to perv over ( okay, it did look like a volvo owners club meeting at one point!)

The V8 Stella - well all I can say is mmmmm. That car just works.

The Lada I managed to chicken out of driving, I wished I'd had a go now.

Sizzer - your SD1 is beautiful and a credit to your efforts in preserving a wonderful early example.

The Scottish Volvo massiv - what a great bunch of guys!

The P6 - I want another one now and it's got to be a series one.

Phil's Y10 - what a credit to your welding skills and perseverance.

Breadvan - the Lancia of shite is superb. It's got to be preserved just as it is now for ever. To bloke.

Everyone else - you've made a sad fat bloke happy!

NEXT!
