AUTOSHITE former members. Where are they now?

Without wishing to sound patronising, you're quite probably the least person who'd have to worry about your collection being 'wrong' on here, Nigel.Your motors, like your tat collecting missions, are legendary.

I agree with what Cavette just said, I remember finding photos of your fleet on Photobucket years back and was awe struck, I couldn't believe my luck when i found that you was on this forum so you have no fear of feeling too obscure to me, In fact I wish there was a lot less 90's stuff posted on here, 60's to the 80's is where it's at for me.

Also I hope you get better soon Nige.

Thanks guys. I accidentally overdosed 10 days back -and was hospitalized to sort it. Been a bit scary.

I'll update my thread a bit -stuff seems to be happening with or without me.

I agree with Cavette, Nigel - your cars and collection missions are the stuff of legend and make me feel rather jealous.  I  think we're all aware of how much you manage to get done despite any difficulties you have (and I hope you recover quickly).

Seconded, I always enjoy reading your posts Nigel and it's impressive what efforts you go to to rescue obscure old cars.  If that's not the ethos of autoshite I don't know what is.

My  'tastes'  tend to end in the mid 90's.

This must be around the time period when you appeared on Deals On Wheels, featuring everyone's favourite* motoring presenter, Mike Brewer. The reg plate on the Strada in the epically brilliant barn o' shite was the give-away for me (it was repeated on Discovery Turbo a while back, although I could still vaguely remember it from first time round on terrestrial telly). That was you selling the Moggie Traveller, wasn't it?

Hope you're on the mend Nigel. Your exploits were one of the key reasons I started following this site. Just because the rest of us don't have your cajones when it comes to car buying, don't think we're not interested in the next bit of '70s FIAT tat, or whatever, that you choose to rescue.

Whatever happened to Lankytim? I thought he was great, very funny and a very giving lover.

LOL...

Anyway, I'm still here and have been since 4th Sept 2006!

I saw some posts on RR (particularly Dez who seems to hate this place for some reason) who seems to think the place is to cliquey. I don't think we're really that unfriendly are we?

LOL, Pot, kettle.

Kind words guys, thanks.

Hearted a bit, so I've updated my Nonsense thread a bit .High levels of morphine mean I've forgotten the (ongoing negotiations) on a rusty 204 van, Fiat 1100 wreck, & a couple of others, but they'll get included when I can.

Because my legs don't work well right now, my kids have exhumed a scooter (1 of 4 I got from Thorsten -of this occasional parish). I've not ridden one before -and have discovered its quite good fun, although the tiny wheels scare me a little. I'd rather be on a 'proper' bike, but this'll do for now

Even this has an interesting story.

I'm new here. I keep meaning to post something hugely entertaining and engaging but my current MAD WHEELZ is behaving itself to a worrying degree. In fact, I'm only posting this to provoke some ungodly Rover-based revenge so I've got something to do in the coming winter months.

Most of my ShiteStories involve other people committing unfathomable acts of devotion/stupidity when buying my tat. I need to up my game.

Ta . I'm fucked mate- coming to terms is the issue.

Sorry to hear about your health problems and sincerely wish you all the best.

Have followed all your posts and been hugely impressed.

Whilst I am relatively* healthy, joining Autoshite helped me to come to terms with a couple of my issues. (The biggest being a tendency towards depression after a failed business due to a business partner who turned out to be an utter git)

Autoshite is not currently available on prescription, though it certainly should be.

Exactly ! The reason most of us run late '80s and early '90s stuff is because they are cheap and plentiful.

I would much rather be smoking about in a scruffy Panhard 17, but I don't have the balls to buy one unseen for 3K euro and then a-frame it back from the Pyrenees-Orientales over the course of a weekend.

However, I am sure you have done this on multiple occasions, Nigel, and we all love to read about your experiences/adventures !

Lost friends & acquaintances

Years ago when I was in my early teens, I was outside our house in Menlove Avenue, Liverpool singing & playing my guitar when Lenno, a lad who lived a few doors down said " your pretty good Grundig, whanna join my group? - I've got a gig next Saturday at the Village fête in Woolton  & my aunt Mimi will be there". I said "sorry I can't mate, I have to do chores for my mum on Saturday but I'll ask my pal Macca if he will play guitar with you"  I didn't see much of them after that,  but I often wonder what happened to John & Paul

I have done the drive down to St Tropez and picked up a Panhard 24bt for 2k sight unseen. I didn't A frame it though used a trailer. Panhards are great cars but not easy to restore and scary as shit to drive fast. The 24 is good for a ton but with the front end panels held on with rubber cotton reel mountings they flap around a fair bit. I would have another though just finding the right car at the right price they are getting silly money now in france still worth bugger all over here

I hope theres someone, somewhere planning a nigel bickle recovery mission.

Hes saved so much hopeless chod with wanton abandon, there must be something more powerful waiting in the wings, ready to fix him up and get him back on the road.

Good luck fella.

Bit more throttle, keep it running even when youre standing still.

don't know if we've had this one but McQueenMachine (or something like that), Steve Berry, is resigned to reporting on Sky TV and Radio 4 nowadays.

Another good wish for you, Nigel. Hope you can get back to decent health, and continue your inspirational chod collecting exploits.

The fact that we can mix 90's street furniture in with some near-extinct Japanese and French kit being imported from the other side of the world, is what makes AS great for me.Long may it continue.

I also think a number of members moved onto the Facebook group instead, I still see a few past faces pop up on there who don't come on here anymore, Alan Partridge, Morgan and L9UKE being 3 who pop into my head. There's still some pretty decent stuff being posted on here recently but it's still nowhere near as good as it was 4-5 years ago when it was quite literally the funnest place on the web, mate. I have to go to moto-scat to get my fill of Pog, Seth, Spottedlaurel, Barrett and Hirst these day

Oi, I'm still here!

He should get Tommy Boyd to stand in for him and post on here on his behalf, that worked well* for him on 106.1 Rock Radio.

He's sold Aphrodite, and is now running an XM.

Aphrodite is for sale again from the new owner, but j-j's postings on here are sadly missed.

Since the forum has been revamped I find that in order to contribute I have to log in every time whereas before I was logged in all the time. So now I have to find where I have left my book of passwords because I can never remember it. Is there a cure for this? The question applies to both memory loss and being logged in.

The cure for the latter (and I suppose former) is to make all your passwords the same...

Posted

I did try that but then realised it probably wasn't a good idea to have the same password as for my bank account

Pick a car from your past that you can remember the VRM of.  Use the reg. number as you password ;-)

Tried that, but with a personal reg all the passwords still came out the same :(
