But the engine is out for some work at the moment, so I'm on my bike and borrowing her car if I need 4 wheels.

The daily drivers look like this!

Except the blue estate is another blue estate.

This week I have mainly been driving the white one, but the Dispatch gets the hard work tomorrow and the blue estate gets it on Sunday.

That's cool as fuck, how did you manage to prevent the paper getting wet and soggy and ripping?

My daily drive. I was trying to be practical and sensible. I failed. It does some things utterly brilliantly. Drinking fuel is an unfortunate side-effect. 16-24 mpg seems to be where it's at, when driven sensibly.

My daily till I move to San Francisco, surprisingly does 20mpg.

Heres my current line up -

The Saab. Lovely car - especially when the sun's out but had a long list of grief from it in a short time. Blew its engine on the way home from buying it due to sludge,  battery packed in, clutch went, catalytic converter went, and now the exhaust is blowing. Bought it a year ago, but only actually got it on the road in december after all the shit from the garage I bought it from. Here it is hauling another one I bought from Kinkersaab a few months ago for parts which has since gone over the weighbridge.

(The other one was in great nick and had only done 60k with FSH but had also sludged its engine)

I love these cars but they do seem to be pretty shit by my experience

The Focus I bought last month for £500 - 1.8 Tddi. Getting used daily due to the fact it does fantastic MPG. Last week I did Fife - York in it, up round Pickering and Goathland, on to Whitby and Scarborough and back to Fife - on £50 of diesel. You just cant argue with that. Appears to be a bloody good car

My Cortina 2.0 S - Bought this in 2006 from a guy in Saltash, Cornwall and did an epic roadtrip down from Fife and drove it home - all in a day. had 37,000 miles and was in fantastic condition then. Now its on about 67k and has been off the road almost two years after a minor bump on a roundabout ( a guy swerved into my lane) meaning it needs a wing and front panel. Really needs a damn good cut and polish and some general love. - its been totally neglected. Plan was to get it back on the road this year but since I've had to fork out almost every month to keep the Saab on the road to get me to work its never happened

Banger boys keep knocking the door wanting to race it - no chance!

I'll stick a photo of a filthy, scruffy VW later. From memory the only panel without any damage is the osf wing.

£800 VW bora tdi, the last of the old school diesels. This has now done 52k miles in my ownership with no major issues.

I frequently think about replacing it, but 60mpg on veg with decent power and comfort, I doubt there is much else that could take the abuse I give this whilst being cheap as chips to run.

The practical one:

A rich and varied selection as I expected, but THIS had me genuinely lolling. Is it so far away that you need binoculars, or did the car drive past as you were playing "Simon Says"?

I'm fortunate to have a choice. This one gets a fair bit of use, and is the only one my wife is happy to drive.

This BX Turbo Diesel is the most sensible car for daily duty. Quiet, swift, economical, practical, 307,000 miles...

Not so much daily, but I try and use it at least once a week. 3-litre Merc.

The car I'm actually driving most at the moment is the newest to the fleet - Disco Tdi. Over 200 miles on its first tank of fuel (and still half a tank left) so some way from working out the mpg yet.
