A new car I actually like - Peugeot 301

Normally I dislike new cars. There are very few that do anything for me out there in the sea of bland that is new cars.

But I saw one of these outside a dealer a few weeks ago in metallic brown and it looked quite handsome.

A sensible size for European roads (a rarity nowadays), well proportioned and I actually like the front end styling too.

Spiritual sucessor to the 309? What do we think?

Apart from being smaller and not looking like a superb.

Has it got a Bosch or a Lucas pump. If its Lucas AH’M OOT

It's a looker compared to the previous generation of Peugeots as looking at them was like rubbing the dog shit of a dog that only eat chili powder and mackerel into your eyes.

Over all though it could be an inoffensive saloon from any manufacturer.

I think the main plus point for me is the fact that it's a sensible size.

It looks a bit like the Superb yes, but it's a fair bit smaller as others have said.

Is it a Hyundai? Or a Kia? Or possibly an MG6 (not that anyone has ever seen one of THOSE)

Like all new cars, it looks like it was involved in an accident.

Why are today's designers unable to come up with anything good looking?

It looks like a toned down 208 with a boot, designed for the developing markets with more conservative tastes. Talking of which, it looks very much* like a mk2 Toyota Vios from behind.

Toned down is good for Peugeot, but they've a long way to go before they're back to the beauty of the 306, 406 Coupe etc.

Not bad, however like most moderns if the doors weren't so deep you might be able to see out of the thing. Hopefully the trend for huge, angry looking cars is starting to pass.

Nice colour too , bring on the beige version.

Can't feel anything for that, love or hate. It just seems really inoffensive, bland and far too appealing to those over 65.

Whilst there are more imaginative things being launched to the new car market (DS3?*), I can't help but think Peugeot have missed a trick.

*I know there's a lot of dislike for the DS3 around here, but you can't deny that it stands out in a sea of bland.

looks like a 3 series bee-em with slightly different lights and grille to me..

Hmmm. Peugeot actually once did make a 301 for me.

Bonus Art-Deco fan shite in the background.

I like it. But then, I drive a M59 Berlingo and would happily roll a Logan MCV.

/\/\ Nice one, Junkman.

:D

Launched in 2012 apparently, and never destined for these shores.

Looks better than recent Peugeots in the same way Jonny Vegas looks better than Wayne Rooney. I hope never to be in a position or a state of mind where my motoring needs would be satisfied by something that ordinary.

So they won't be on sale in the UK? I guess booted cars have gone out of fashion there.

Here in the Czech Rep. (where I saw the 301 at a dealer) people still like a proper boot, maybe because of 40 years of 3-box Skodas. Those booted Fabias are quite smart too I recon.

I thought, with the cars I drive I had finally re-evaluated my standards of entertainment, but the 301 looks clinically dull.

A sensible size for European roads (a rarity nowadays),

Four inches shorter than Peugeot 406.

Two inches shorter than a mk1 Mondeo or Vectra B.

One inch shorter than a Range Rover Classic or BMW e46 saloon.

Ten inches longer than a BL Landcrab.

Fifteen inches longer than Peugeot 309.

Thirty two inches linger than a MINI.

Yes, cars are getting bigger in general.

I quite like it. Puts me in mind of a rival for the Skoda Rapid & SEAT Toledo - a family sized car at a (hopefully) a not too extortionate price.

Posted

Nope, not doing it for me soz. I'm almost certainly in the minority of one here but I'd have an Alfa 159, FIAT 500, Vauxhall Adam or Citroen DS.

I feel a bit sorry for Peugeot, I wouldn't like the brand to die, but there's been some pretty uninspiring droll cars produced for quite some time by them, that said I've just looked on the website and I dislike the look of the new range much less than the old one.

Posted

I quite agree. The last family look they applied was fucking hideous.

In a minority of two, except for the Bolloxhall Edam which I have seen many times in the flesh and looks worse each time I see it. I would also happily purchase a Dacia Sandero, Jaguar XF, or controversially an MG6. Of course, I would only purchase any of these in at least 10 years time once they have slipped well into the Autoshite price range.

That Peugeot on the other hand is one f the blandest things I have ever seen. No thanks.

It's grey. It has a bonnet stolen from a Maserati. Erm.... no. It's bland and uninteresting, and has no redeeming features. It should go down well.

I like the nose and bonnet stying, it's in line with Peugeot finally replacing the "gurning mong eating a saveloy sideways" look they were previously running with. Sadly, from the windscreen back it looks like it could have come from anywhere bordering the pacific.

And all modern cars are shit, anyway. I'm told.
