Scottish Power put paid to the chair,so sadly that's on eBay.

Do I Not Like That.

Did you ever have it attached and out for a spin even?

I've just refurbished the carb on my Lambretta and for the first time since I bought it, it's running like a dream. It's ready for a MOT now but as it's so late in the season I'm going to leave it until next year. I've also got a lot on my plate, the Caddy broke down last week with a suspected priming pump problem (£130) and I've still got to get the low brake fluid level warning light working on the Defender before MOT time.

Took the mrs out for a spin yesterday down the ards peninsula

After taking that picture I had a complete brain fart and over balanced the bike moving out of the carpark.....

Not terrible but that was the only non damaged panel on the entire bike!

Wife thought it hilarious, thankfully she was the only witness.

Then later on the bike rewarded me by shitting its starter motor - it had started to get a bit hit or miss before, but now its totally gone. At least the bike was hot so easily bumped...

As its the end of August I just stuck the bastard on SORN as soon as we got home. In doing so I guarantee there will be mega sunshine for all of September....

Needs a few jobs done for next season anyway.....

I did a mega long day on my CB750, pulled up into the campsite and promptly just fell over as soon as I stopped moving...a couple of people watching came over to help me get back up.

Fortunately with an impressive display of strength caused by acute embarrassment I hauled it back up right single handed

Inappropriate to use '  \/ Like This  '  on either of the above.. But I'm there with you guys.  Been there done that and tore the f'kin T-shirt while I was at it.

Subconsciously perhaps I've moved across to low c. of g. vintage bikes and not had the problem since ..despite myself becoming more ancient every day.  I put my BMW K75 Ultima onto SORN  because the clutch started to slip  ..That was something like six years ago !

Subject to transfer of monies tomorrow morning, I have just sold this project of sixty year old bike bits.

Going to someone in the north of Scotland ( IV30 8QW ). The buyer hopes to put her back on the road. 8)

Did the 4 local passes today, Honister, Hardknott, Wrynose and Kirkstone, I forgot how difficult Hardknott is, I wouldn't fancy it on a sports bike with no steering lock :-o

Really enjoying the Versys as an all rounder, I wish I'd tried something like it 10 years ago instead of being a sportsbike wanker, for £2.5k it really is brilliant and has taken everything I have thrown at it, trackday on it at the middle of Sept :D

Inspiring photos Jazoli.. they makes me want to go for decent ride.  You and others of this 'ere biking parish might consider sharing similar on the ' Amateur-photographer ' thread sometime / frequently. ?

The first time I ride Hardknot was on a spurtsbike with no lock, a slipping clutch & fully loaded with camping gear. I got to the end, turned around & went back the other way :D

 Woohoo!

The XJ900 project is now running nicely... one of the wires from the pickup coils was open circuit, now fixed :-)

Just the fairing, lights & indicators to sort out & it's ready for an MOT.

Total time of rebuild: 18 hours.

Total cost: less than £30

Busa passed its MOT - I made a helmet of myself by not noticing the kill switch and pissing about with the side stand switch cos it would'nt start when I collected it.

Thinking of getting rid - it is a big heavy bastard to move around when you are asthmatic.

Finally got round to doing some fettling on the Rank Bandit.

It needs a longer brake hose from the m/c to the splitter on the front, presumably the bars on it are higher than standard or something and the hose just doesn't quite reach.

Are all bike brake hoses the same diameter? Are the banjos the same as well?

None of the ones on ebay list a diameter so I'm guessing yes.

I've not measured the actual length I need properly yet, but will something like this be OK?

My front brakes had gone spongy on the 14 so I assumed the callipers needed cleaning as normal. Turns out I need pads too, so got those ordered today.

Anyone heard of Brenta pads? they are Italian & claim to be TUV approved. At £25 for a front set it's worth a try I thought.

Make sure you measure and allow for the forks to fully extend

Mate of mine fitted some that were a snug fit, but the first time out and his front wheel left the ground it partially tore the pipe and left him with no brakes

Not what you need on a Fireblade

Buy cheap buy twice, get some Brembo SA pads in there, its a big heavy bike with a heavy rider ;) you need decent stopping power, hopefully they'll be ok.

Give HEL a ring, they will supply exactly what you want for not a lot of money (probably £20) they are a great company to deal with.

If they aren't I won't buy them again. I'm not a heavy braker anyway most of the time. I always stick to GG pads as I don't like sintered, being a ham-fisted clot the heavier lever pressures are an advantage. I was mis-sold fast road pads years ago & they nearly killed me, as I don't use them enough to keep them warm I came up to a sharp bend, hit the brakes & nothing for 100yrds then as they warmed up they locked both wheels. Lovely.

Haha!

I lent my 1986 Honda CBX750F to a mate for a few days last Friday afternoon to use while his newish 1600cc Harley was in for a service.

Got a call from him today:

"Fuck me... that thing is fast, it's hard to believe it's over 30 years old! And it's smooth too, I used up an entire tank of fuel 'cos I spent the whole day just riding it around."

Potential shite convert right there.

Isn't a Puch Maxi faster than any Harley?

Posted

Hehe... to be fair, his isn't one of those full-dresser tart's handbags. But yeah, even the sportier* ones aren't at all quick by sports bike standards.

Yep, but they were still heavy and the Harley boat anchor wasn't particularly highly tuned iirc. The Buell would have an initial torque advantage over a 4 cylinder bike though.

Posted

Didn't Buell used a HD motor, they were quite rapid from memory

Aye, 1,200cc Sportster lump I think.

Posted

The 1200 Sportster I had was bloody rapid - Edelbrock heads, Andrews cam, Mukini flat side carb and fat exhaust headers saw to that, it was a shame that a Puch Maxi could out handle and out brake it. Truely a scary bike to ride fast (ie above 85mph), even in a straight line.
