These 2 are probably sold already at £200 each assuming he actually turns up and pays once I get them running. I have a third one but it is parts only due to the ammount of stuff I have had to raid off it to sort the other 2. Anyway here are some pics.

Great road the Haverhill to Finchingfield to Braintree. I bimble or thrash along it depending on the time of day and the bike I'm on. And no stupid 50 mph limits.

Took the SV for a run up to Hartside today, was bloody cold up there as usual

First decent run on it, I quite like it, it needs new tyres as the Michelin PIlot Roads on are probably 7 years old, I have some new Bridgestone S20's waiting in the garage but wanted to ride the bike rather than wrestle with tyres today.

I'm not sure its a keeper yet, although it did make a small child cry when I started it up :D

I didn't go out in the nice weather today cos I had a job to do. On my recent run to Normandy, one of the older members of the entourage dropped his Integra on the front of the Helix, breaking all the front upper panels  You can see where the gaffa tape was deployed in this pic:

A deal was done - I didn't want my scooter written off and he didn't want yet another accident on his record - and three days later a big box containing an upper panel set arrived from Germany. As the postage he'd paid would cover the extra weight I ordered a new set of lowers, as the old ones had many broken lugs and many were there tie-wraps.

If you thought my scooter looked odd, just look at it now

Removal and replacement took the best part of the day, but I'm well pleased with the results. Those black/silver panels came from a dead Chinese clone; I never liked the silver stickers and Jialing, in their infinite wisdom, had lacquered over them so removal would have left a right mess. The top box had a broken lock and holes where the speakers (!) had been. I found a spare Givi plate in the garage so it's getting binned and the Helix can share the E46 with it's older brother.

That is such a coincidence, today I spontaneously became completely obsessed with the idea of a helix. There's one for sale in London that I'm going to look at next weekend. My commute is about as urban as you can get- slap bang through the middle of central London in rush hour. I'm currently doing it on the Vespa which is great fun, but occasionally a bit tiring and slow. Would the helix be too cumbersome do you reckon? Tell me all about it!!

I have two of them, the one above spent the first 20 years of its life commuting in London so I guess it couldn't be too bad at it!

I suspect your perception of whether it's good or bad will depend on what you're used to, though - so I have to ask what sort of Vespa you've been using up to now??

Manual PX, so clunky and relatively slow but zingy, noisy and 2 stroke which is all good. It does make me THRASH it everywhere unless I'm really tired, when I just wonder if auto is the way to go. These are one of the few twist and go's that appeal.

I'm forever squeezing through tiny spaces here and there, and parking in rammed motorcycle bays so I just wonder if something as big as a helix would be a bit cumbersome. I guess I'd just adopt a different riding style though. The true solution would be both I suppose..

It might be a bit big for what you want TBH, but don't let that stop you from owning one. If nothing else the CVT will be much more relaxed that going up and down the box with that twist-grip gearchange. I very briefly owned a 1965 Sprint with the same thing and I couldn't get on with it at all!

I live and work in the sticks these days, so I don't see much filtering action, but I managed fine in rush hour traffic on the M25 coming back from the tunnel. The long wheelbase might be a problem for your busy parking bays though.

Manual PX,

I keep looking at those Scomadati things ( based sort of on a Lammy) T&G.

Bit pricey at the mo, but Im sure used values will come down in a year or two.

Ultimately a Tomos with 70cc barrel would be ace for the daily commute. I should really buy one.

Took the Grom to work today and marveled at the space I now have with my Givi Outback luggage.

I did have a look around the other week, but there weren't any handy (and insuring one for me is relatively expensive, given what I can insure larger machines for not much more).

Having got a bit of funds in the "put on Ebog rather then in the skip as instructed then buy random fings or give to charity .... account" I am contemplating a four wheels good two wheels bad road going cheap Chinese 250/350cc Quad. Anyone had dealings or ridden any of these fine automobiles?  The cheap chain driven diff in the middle of a wide live axle stuck on the end on a narrow moped style swinging arm has me reaching for a stress analysis slide rule.

I had one of these a couple of years ago, spent more time fixing it than using it.

everything either bent or broke as it was made of cheese i think.

Only had it three weeks, total waste of money

Do not buy a quad, they are the ultimate chav chariot, regularly seen being ridden round town centres by tracksuit wearing yobs, the only decent quad is one with a bale of hay on the back and a sheepdog on the front, they have all the disadvantages of a car and none of the advantages of a bike, a pointless road vehicle in my opinion :)
