Wilko220 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 The collapse of AS isn't the only reason I've been quiet of late. The main reason is that I've been busy making an honest woman of Mrs Wilko220: last weekend we tied the knot in what, I can safely say, was the best rainy day in Edinburgh we've ever had. Knowing my intended did not share my taste in motoring, I thought there might be some disagreement when it came to choosing a car. The suggestion that I might look at getting my brown Sceptre 3 back on the road in time to serve the role resulted in an evening of silence... After I refused point blank to go within 10 yards of one of those bloody Beaufort things, we eventually settled on an FX4 taxi which, whilst not very exciting, I felt I could happily live with. Until I discovered the extortionate amount the cabbies of Scotland's capital were proposing to charge just to drive a £10 fare with a couple of ribbons attached. So, I got researching for something better value and stumbled across this beauty: That's not our venue, by the way! So...British - CHECKProbably quite unreliable - CHECKUnfashionable model - CHECKNaff '70s colour - CHECKRubber bumpers for added shiteness - CHECK I had also never been in a Roller before and so was a bit curious. And, to my amazement, she liked it and agreed. So stuff you, Edinburgh cabs. The car (and very friendly driver) did sterling service on the day. It was as brown inside as it was yellow outside. The engine made the best noise I've ever heard. It made my Rover 75 feel like a Yugo 45. I now SRSLY want my own Silver Shadow one day. Anyway, before we head off for more rain on our honeymoon, all this made me wonder whether fellow AS'ers have had any interesting wedding cars of their own, given up their own motors for such duties, or even just spotted any nuptial tat when out and about. I did a cursory check for similar old threads and couldn't find anything, so fire away!
messerschmitt owner Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 well, I was married in Cyprus and the car we used was a three pot Suzuki Alto - it was old even back in 1995. Was a hoot to drive though, handled superbly and had so little metal its 890cc or so pushed it along quite well.
RedSparrow Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Congratulations! Great that your wife liked it.Suitably awful colour scheme for a shiter's wedding. Could've done with a colour mismatched replacement panel somewhere but otherwise spot on.
Wilko220 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 ^ You win! That's simply brilliant!
Cheggers Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Mine's long enough ago that I'll need to dig out & scan pictures (20 years next week ), but we had a lovely old Humber Super Snipe, which was Inspector Japp's car in the old Poirot series
Cheggers Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Scanned & uploaded, with bonus happy couple & background shite
Wilko220 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Nice!Yes, lots of bonus background tat there - particularly like the second wedding car hiding in the corner. Congrats for next week!
trigger Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Congratulations Wilko! I feel like i missed out with a decent car, We had to make do with a year old Mercedes E-Class as it came as part of the photography package which we had bought. I wish I had owned a classic back in 2006 as that would have made a much better car to have travelled in, I have been asked to do a wedding next year by someone my father in law knows in my Cortina but I'm not sure if that will go ahead now.
Wilko220 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 I have been asked to do a wedding next year by someone my father in law knows in my Cortina Thanks Trigger. Now that would make a great one!
Junkman Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Would a pale green metallic Renault 20 TS with a brown velours interior count as a shite wedding car?
Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Here was the soon to be Mrs_Harpers_Teeth about to take a ride in a brown car... ...that is a MiniMetro behind...all this took place 12 years ago.
Spiny Norman Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Getting hitched in a Renner 4 van, now that shows dedication! So far I've managed to escape the shackles of marriage, but my mate got this old Packard when he got hitched a few years back. I remember it took quite a while for it to catch when the driver tried starting it after the church service.
Richard Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 We had a 300000 mile Mk2 Granada 2.3GL white plater for our wedding.
dollywobbler Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 This is me on my wedding day. My wife arrived on another 2CV. Guest cars included an Austin miniMetro 1.3HLS that I later ended up buying, and a lot of 2CVs.
