Vin
WOW! Amazing stuff. There is so much that I missed that what I do comment on is just the tip of the iceberg... -The Simca van-The early Ford Cargos and Renault Trafics-The reversing capri with odd numberplates-The vast number of VW vans, pick-ups and buses-The vast number of Citroens, particularly the GS-the German Talbot I also spotted at least three Fiat 900s - a minibus and two campers.... ProgRocker
I love the numberplate on the turquiose Avenger at 6:29!
boobydoo
Lovely little trip back in time was that. A 1983 'soundtrack' would enhance that video even more. All those nice little sixties and early seventies gems would be like looking at worthless old R and S plate chod now. Anyone else spot the grey Tagora? You have to look pretty carefully! HMC
later on there are 2 BT yellow bedford ha vans. Real period pieces. A grotty Cortina mk2 smokes along ahead at 24.10 looking on its last legs, sure enough within a year it was history... Mash
Fabulous stuff!! So much worth mentioning, some highlights I noticed in the first few minutes were: VW Audi showroomReally early Toyota HiluxMk1 StradaCapri on black HM Forces platesBritish Gas Marina vanPetrol at £1.78 a gallonStreet he drove along at about 8 mins is FULL of Datsuns!German reg Mazda 323Invacar etc etc Off back for more now!! Oh and the turquoise Avenger didn't last much longer: The vehicle details for ROT 915M are: Date of Liability 01 11 1984 Date of First Registration 30 10 1973
vulgalour
That was fun to sit through, so much to see. Did anyone else catch the Fiat Ritmo/Strada going past ROT Avenger? Or how about the smattering of Alpines with grey-ish bumpers. A couple of favourites were the Invacar (I spotted two in the vid) with reg VOO623L which was made in '72 and in '86 is off the system. Tax exemption perhaps? There's also a horrible green-brown Reliant Regal (I think) and another probably plastic tiny red car at 31:28 I can't identify. What I was doing was counting cars, Cortinas would have been too easy, and I've only so much paper in the house, so instead I was predictably Princess spotting (17 in total). White - 3Blue - 4Bronze - 1 (on ramps, no less!)Burgundy - 2Brown - 2Beige - 3Black - 2 Ambassadors - 2 Sadly couldn't grab any reg numbers, but I'm going to assume they're all dead now. fordnut
Amazing, I live in Portsmouth and I drive along those roads frequently. The route goes right past my house which is very different today although very little else has changed. I will study it more closely as there may be a few vehicles in it that are still in the city. I'd have thought most of the RWD Fords will have ended up at the local banger tracks!
jonny69
That is pretty much how I remember the early 80's looking. Even the weather is the same I have 110 pictures that can confirm this.
ayrshirelad
I finally managed to watch it all. A pug in thingy on the comp wasnt working corectly. What was the film car? Iliked the cortina doing his sweeney impression and nearly taking the films car nose off! However att he next set of lights the film car parks in the cortinas boot! nice!I remember the streets filled with the cars in the film too. Was the Datsun owners club out for a drive along the bump road. 3 or 4 in a convoy! Even an estate! Excellent stuff.
