Anti new car crusade [Renown content]

In the true spirit of Autoshire, I've decided that the stuff I've got at the moment is far too reliable. I'm in the process of getting rid of the lot and buying a "slightly modified" [ahem] Triumph Renown. It's green, and on the Car and Classic website. [you can't miss it].

If anyone with better computer skills cares to wang it up on here for perusal and mass hysterical guffawing, be my guest.

That'll be this one then:

I know Nick from Birchfield's he's a solid bloke (can't 'arf natter tho  ), I know he's had that car a while, it was featured in Triumph World magazine too if I remember correctly?

very nice...makes me wish I had been able to keep the Mayflower and rod it 8)

I've seen that at a couple of shows - I don't normally like that kind of thing, but that one's actually really well executed. Should turn a few heads on Joisy I would imagine.

That has to be the coolest car I have seen this year 8)

That's incredible, looks like the kind of thing you see as part of a 1930s art-deco utopic future.

That's fecking fantastic!

We need lots of pics and a road test report please. 8)

Ah yes. I remember it's appearance in Triumph World. Like others, I'm not really a fan of this sort of thing but it does look nicely done and the overall effect is WIN.

I love art deco stuff, and this reminds me of one of those coach built French jobbies of the thirties.. Had long conversations with a bloke called Andy at the dealer, and he's giving me a very good price for my Audi 80 Sport, which is a lovely car, but a little too frenetic. I shall be assuming a raffish cravate, a herringbone double breasted suit, and a monocle when driving it. Only hurdle is making sure I can register it over here, as over equivalent of DVLA can be a bit difficult about modded stuff.

Wow! Not usually a fan of this stuff but that does look nice. Must be interesting to drive.

That's great and just the job for Jersey... well envious!

Good point. Time for a remake of Bergerac - only this time he bombs around in a (V6?) meaty Renown and calls criminals 'slaaaaags.'

Bloody hell, that's fantastic!

That is fucking brilliant. It looks like something out of a Tim Burton film. If I win the lottery tomorrow, I am afraid I shall be buying it before you and donning my catwoman outfit.

I don't care that it's physically impossible and that they'll have to gestate in a box under my bed, I want you to have my babies for purchasing this!

That's a very good analogy. There's a bit of lead sled in there somewhere as well. If it were possible [which it isn't] spats over the front wheels would look rather nice.

Like others I'm not usually in to modding and whatnot... But that looks bloody nice indeed!

Very well done.

One millionty pics will be required when you get it :D

Just had a right result on the insurance....agreed value of £15,000, all mods declared, £124 !I suppose getting old does have some advantages. Collecting next Wednesday.

It's extremely well executed, I'm also a bit of a puritan but well modified and tasteful ones like this are really nice. There's a Flying Standard in a similar vein that I thought was excellent too.

Brilliant!

I mean seriously, brilliant. I love that colour on it, in fact the whole look of the thing is just right. So glad it's found a home with one of "us" 8)

I've seen that in the "metal", and it's been superbly done, and I presume that the Standard owner's club hate it, so it's all good.

I saw that also - was at the Doncaster Custom Car Show a couple of years back. It is stunning. Has a Volvo T5 engine.

Some rubbish pics:

That Standard is pretty much exactly how I like old cars.

Lets face it, they weren't much good in original form...

Nor were Renowns, slow, arthritic, too pompous looking, Riley RME, which was of similar period / price was a far better car to drive, especially the 2.5, which was a quick old bus in it's day, although a bit fragile mechanically, and prone to heroic ash frame disintegration.
