Welcome Sir

I was in France last week and saw a Renault van like yours. Thought to myself at the time that you don't see many of those is the UK any more and here you are with a picture of two of them. :)

Also spotted a superb Pug 504 estate full of schoolkids with a rather tasty Mum driving near City Europe and I was overtaken by an old Renner 18 dizzler on the Autoroute. There was a distinct smell of chips coming in to the car afterwards so I can only guess what he was running it on.

The DS Safari has the same wow factor over there as it does here, I even got a thumbs up from a little old lady.

Why thank you, and yes ive only seen one other like mines (in the pic). Pic was taken in fort william 2 weeks ago and he was from gloucster! +1 on the ds safari tho, i cant say iv ever seen one

Welcome aboard!

I've been trying for years to figure out what the Master reminds me of, and I've finally got it. Think Gerry Anderson... it's the kind of thing you'd see in the background of Captain Scarlet! :D Should make an excellent shite camper, with the low floor that results from FWD. Is there actually room to stand upright without needing a high-roof?

Great. Always liked the look of these.

Really? Are you suggesting you like the design? I think they are horrid looking things designed with practicality, cheapness and probably a few other things in mind before style. However its totally subjective.

I would happily roll in one as a camper though, even if I am shallow. I would just make sure I did not take it to the same places as my mates were. For weddings and social occasions I would hire out a nice Commer with a prostitute in the back.

Volksy had this one for a while which I did some welding on for its MOT. Was a bit grubby inside but was massive.

Welcome along BTW.

Renault Master campers... Rrrrrr!

I wouldn't describe them as Ferrari Dino beautiful, but there's something rather appealing and very French about the looks. Never really been another van like it.

Renault AND Iveco? What could possibly go wrong?!

Welcome along ace.

So do I, but that's why I've always rather liked them...

Welcome along :D

Hasn't this often been the case for French commercials? I'm thinking Citroen H, Renault Estafette, Peugeot J etc. And that's what makes them brilliant - commercial vehicles are supposed to be practical first, stylish second, but it's the practicality of these models' designs that makes them beautiful.

Im just thinking how it must get on your tits being constantly flagged down by Geriatrics expecting you to give them a lift to the Hospital for their weekly appointment.

I never had much regard for Renault commercials till i bought a J plate LWB high top Trafic to go across Europe in.

I always thought the Transit was THE European commercial, I was wrong.

That vain aint ugly, its different, I like it.

Welcome along - did you pick it up from Fort Bill or was that just a trip out?

Posted

Eddy: yep! can stand up comfortably tho i am 5.11, taller folks would have to duck! Its suprisingly spacious to be honest, spent a week at fort william with plenty of space for drunks, cider and many an eventful poker match.

Hillmanimp: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! iv seen it on someones sig here but its true to me. one mans scrap is another mans gold. i drive this with no care in the world. An opinion is merely that - an opinion, and everyones welcome :) could do with a paintjob tho!

Dolly: i agree :)

Cavette: Nothing yet, touch MDF!

Freebird: Not the case so far, tho i am expecting an aged one at some point remark about the happy times they spent cooped up inside one of these on the way to the seaside... er maybe not :)

Hairnet: i may rename it now, i loved lego as a bairn! ideas?

m'coli: i saw it in a driveway a few times near to me, tax was 2 years out an it was covered in green mildew on account of being abandoned under some trees. just chapped the door and made an offer and bingo £600 quid later i drove it home.

passed mot first time save an advisory for wipers and marginal brakes (which bedded in) win win :)

Cort: Hoo ye daein min!?

Thanks everyone else who replied and Sorry for the above^ seemed like the easiest way to do it! and thanks for the abuse / appreciation! nice to hear folk love her as i do. i was called a gypsy by some kids in winchburgh the other day as i chugged past. Happy days :)

Oh wow, that brings back memories. There was a stunning young Moroccan nursing assistant where I trained, and I mean stunning!! She was 19 and bought her father one of these beasties so that the whole family could drive to Morocco for family holidays. I got an invite from her to go along with them. I had to decline as I feared that I would have been lynched if certain things happened that I would dearly liked to have happened. You get my drift. A huge regret sometimes, but that is life. Inshallah!

I cant remember the last time I saw a MK1 Master, but I do remember the kneeling suspension of the welfare/ambulance models when they were in service!

Welcome. Must say I am also a fan of the Trafic and Master. As has been said, it is the ungainlyness and practically of the design that does it for me too. 8)

My sister went in a minibus version to Czechoslovakia on a scout trip in 1991. Blue it was with (the then) Humberside County Council written down the side. She might have a pic of it actually...will see.

I assume this a Master (and not a Trafic) in this screengrab from 'Tutti Frutti' - I didn't realise that the Master went back as far as a Y registration...

Excellent. I owned one of these monsters till a couple of years back -stripped mine out for use as a builders van. Superb load lugger that sadly died on the motorway (-managed to limp 40 milers home) but finances sadly sent it over the bridge.

I'd have another. Yours look nice.

Wow. gotta be a master! suprised to see it looking the same on an old Y myself, gonna have to have a look see when they started.
