Didn't the yellow Metro survive for a bit?

I mean it's not going to make anyone rich but they're certainly worth a fair bit more than when this thread first started!

I was down there this time about 2-3 years ago, the garage block looked like it was ready to collapse, loads of masonry cracks. I’m actually surprised it hasn’t been demolished already, but it would be sad if that happened as it’s one of those institutions in that area. They looked like retailers of prime chod back in the day, it was called Jetberg LTD.

Probably still on that bit of grass.

Who went into an Austin dealers and went ‘I’m looking for a Metro, I don’t want anything gaudy like red or silver, I’d like something that looks like hungover piss in a toilet bowl’.

Really surprised that place is still standing.

Thought it would be cleared and built on by now.

As for the cars, probably a few parts worth having, but otherwise they're frag feed.

They were essentially scrap when I saw them and that's going back a yonk. Chap is apparently willing to sell anything and everything  but his prices are silly for what he's left himself with.

Didn't one of the Samaras end up with Sam?

I believe there was planning for a number of flats on it at one point. Bizarre it seems then that he’d be farting about trying to get a thousand quid for that Cavalier when once it’s shifted he’s probably got £100k worth of land to sell. Priorities and that...

Something odd doesnt add up about the prices and rescued cars over the years at this place.

The rover 800 was 250 quid according to the advert where someone wanted to move it on, yet the cavalier is a grand?

I’m pulling that figure out of the sky, it’s been reported many times the amount he’s asking for is silly, the thousand quid is a silly figure. I don’t know the exact amount, it was intended to be illustrative.

My FLICKR and nope its long gone from there.   Metro picture yard / Site is full of PT Cruisers now and has just sold for redevelopment. Last I heard years ago on FacebooK was Metro floor and sills were rotton and struggling to get repair panels.

Planning permission renewed for redevelopment

Maybe it's a time slip.  If modern vehicles try to go near it, they can't touch it.... :P

Must have been a strange place in its heyday, with cars in cages, like animals in a zoo. Do any period photos exist?

I'm amazed the Cav wasn't also burnt to a crisp. Someone with more money than sense, as well as a high pain threshold needs* to drag it out before it's also torched.

Yeah I thought that too. Even the plastic side trims on that side don’t look to have melted.

Maybe it wants to live!😄

Problem now though is the gates are open so anyone can just wonder in and do what they want so I think it’s only a matter of time until the Cav starts attracting vandals.

I'd imagine the scrotes will be back sharpish to finish off what they started.

Most likely, sadly.

I wouldn’t imagine the place will be around long now. With it now being in a very rundown state and the obvious structural damage from the fire I can see it getting flattened.

About time that place was put out of it's misery.

Total eyesore now.

Kids getting the blame again, 76% likely to be developers who are the scum of the earth.

Could be either. Kids can be little shits and some developers are utter scum. I don’t think anything has been confirmed yet about who did it or why?

Im surprised it hasn’t happened already though. It’s not exactly difficult to find the place or get onto the site by the look of it.
Will the Cav escape though!? It’s the last one now isn’t it?

I’m sad that the Maestro has been torched but I honestly didn’t expect the Cavalier to be untouched! I think I speak for a lot of people and say that the Cavalier needs to be moved out of there pronto before it meets the same fate. Even if it’s to a safe spot (legally) where it can stay for a bit.

To be fair were the Maestro and Cav not still there because they weren't worth repairing? (Setting aside the fact they also weren't worth buying when the place was an active dealership.)

Even the cars that escaped ended up getting binned due to being beyond reasonable repair IIRC?

The grey Skoda Favorit J34OBD was the only one I can think of, that was put to use after it was sold there. It's now been untaxed since 9th September 2020.

This.

Understanding the dynamics of plot development. You buy a building and secure it, not very well, but enough to show the authorities you have taken precautions, but enough to keep scrotes out.

Scrotes, be they bored kids, druggies or other, will be scrotes. An abandoned building to these scrotes is waiting to be vandalised/set on fire, 'just to see what happens' or 'because they can'.

As I have explained before, this plays well into a developers hands. They can play the long game and leave a plot to rot. Setting it on fire just hurries up the process.

Sadly, its highly unlikely the perps will ever be caught. But the sadly the place was open to vandalism as had befell the 820Si, Maestros and Cavalier.

In regard to the cars. I will say its pretty sad that pretty much none of them got to have a proper second life after being freed from the Jetburg garage (some, like the R-reg Rover 100 Kensington were run for a couple of years after being bought) I am aware that the 820Si had some extensive work done to it and it was running and driving but never saw a new MoT.

If you have development land you’ve ‘secured’ as above then it starts getting burnt or attracting anti social behaviour then it just aids the case for it getting bulldozed. But to be fair I cannot see why planning would be declined on that site, unless you are odd like me and like looking at things like that then it’s an eyesore.

The Cavalier, forget it. As I’ve said in another thread I’ve seen it first hand, it was scrap when it was laid up 20 years ago it’s totally fucked now. The guy that owns/owned the site is doubtful to redevelop it, generally people piss potting about trying to get a couple of grand for an old Cavalier don’t tend to have the aptitude to bring a block of flats to fruition. I expect as/when he kicks the bucket things will happen in terms of it being bulldozed. Which in fairness would take about 20 minutes as it’s a bit ‘home made’ it’s single leaf breeze block and wood.

Sad, I suppose because it’s erosion of another fascinating local land mark likely to be replaced with some executive homes for some lifeless bastards with a Jaecoo outside.
