Thank you!  That's exactly how they DID look, I was driving them complete with odd doors etc.  The red one was a trade-in at a garage where I used to work the pumps; the white one came from the local paper; the Sceptre was a trade-in at Ginger McCain's and had been used in training the racehorses on Southport beach.

Goodness me I want one of those fat-arched XJCs. Maybe not with the Daytona spoiler that the illusion caused torn page has given the one on page 6 though

Thats cool i got that catalogue when it came out (god i feel old).

I could never figure out what the special feature the little diagram with the bloke on was describing on Steeds Jag ??

According to the big Charlie Mack book of Matchbox, the metallic pink Road Dragster is indeed a lesser-spotted variant. Worth about double what a plain red one might fetch, when mint and boxed, apparently... though in this condition, at this price point, it's probably a bit moot...

Hadn't even noticed it was a different colour, nice find

Colour variation is more noticeable in real life; but pics kinda show the difference between yesterday's find and the more usual one from my toybox...

Criminal is supposed to fall away from the car as if Steed has given him a right hook, but there are no mechanisms in the known cars to do this - think he just falls over due to having one foot off the ground

I'd love to know if any of the Leyland liveried ones survived, with the vents (?) on the boot

I had one of those Dinky XJ12C's,bought from a local market after Dinky went bust.It came in bubble wrap,I also got a Rover SD1 from the same stall.

I don't think I liked the Jag that much,as the wheels ended up here

A couple of arrivals yesterday

I bought this Atlas Renault Estafette as it reminded me of the one my Dad had in the late '70s.It's pretty much the same colour too, apart from not still having Hot Dogs & Hamburgers written on the roof from it's previous life 😂.

Dad's plan was to convert it into some sort of camper, but he never got it on the road.We did spend weeks stripping off some of the many layers of paint, but that was as far as it went.It sat in the front garden for a couple of years,& I think he cut it up in the end 🙁

The other one I got was this 1/76 ish Ford Puma20200926_133554.thumb.jpg.eddd75b24db51c099f08300113a64cc7.jpg

20200926_133941.thumb.jpg.a6be0e0ac51e4ba7d90b6a90c9ffc8fe.jpg

These seem quite hard to find, this is missing the headlight lenses but is otherwise in good condition.

Looking at the Dinky catalogue reminded me. In the TV times around the launch of the crane multikit, there was a competition to name the bridges pictured. The prize being the crane multikit. I only went and won one. That added to the army and highway kits I already had.

Isn't it funny how really mundane diecasts are often really expensive? I mean mundane cars in real life. I went looking for a Corsa C! 😵

There was one for 98 quid! Screw that. I didn't want one that bad....

Tat Saturday (Taturday?) here with the arrival of this pair from the splendid Mr Ramrod. Thanks ever so much Eddy, they're beautiful! I definitely* haven't been sitting here at the kitchen table admiring the details for the last forty minutes or so.. The dashboard and wheel on the Thunderbird is just a delight.

When you can buy a 1:1 scale one for a similar amount I’d agree with you.

Also looks like they fully intended to make the Leyland version - the "Steed" one in a 1978 Meccano trade catalogue shows it with the castings on the boot (fans on the real car I think)

Tell me about it. My taste in models never veers from the mundane and I've had quite a job getting hold of some Vauxhall models. The prices some people want for stuff like Vectras and Zafiras is unreal. I've been hunting for a Schuco Astra MK4 for ages but I'm not prepared to pay £40-£50 for one...

I was lucky enough to grab one of those Minichamps Corsa Cs for a tenner years ago at a trade stand at a touring car event at Croft racetrack, when I owned the real thing. That guy on eBay asking £98 asks piss take prices for everything, either he's on drugs or has been told by the missus to get rid of them,

"Look love, they've been on eBay for ages, but nobody seems to want to buy them..."

If she's anything like mine her next line is "so take them to the tip then." 😥

Any diecast listing on eBay that starts ’WOW EXTREMELY RARE' are all from the same  seller and are to be 100% avoided.

Hmm, despite a self imposed diecast ban, I appear to have won a piece of Minichamps gilt-edged shite on eBay tonight at a very reasonable price. Can't wait to get hold of it!

It'll also be a blatant lie.  Within minutes you'll have no trouble finding a dozen or more listed at half the price!

I'd like to see the word "rare" banned outright from eBay listings. The name/description of the item itself ought to be enough for the initiated to know if it's rare or not.

I could find a good home for that and I have bases to bolt straight home.  Slot car bases.   WLTM  !

Today, I am a fairly happy man.

Around 12 years ago, I learnt the existance of a 1.24 scale model Mk1 Rover Sterling. They were sold through the 1986 Rover Elegance brochure. Details were sketchy, I understood that only 100 were produced and all I could find were grainy images. The car looked fairly detailed.

About a year or so later I found one on eBay and knowing its rarity, I stuck in a bid of what was then a whole weeks wages; £250, I really hinestly thought it was mine, I didn't think anyone would bother outbidding me, the seller was even local, in Birmingham. Sadly, on the day and hour that the bidding was due to end, I was sent out by Mother_Sterling to buy some oh-so important bread or gravy sauce or whateverfor dinner. I knew going out would see me miss following the bidding. Stuck between a rock and hard place I went out, reluctantly. These were the days when mobile internet was still in its infancy so I literally did not have any real good access to the internet, I mean why? When I've got net at home/college.

Sadly my bidding was overtaken by someone who had far money than me, I think bidding ended at £275+. I never knew who won it, I kept pictures of the model but somehow even they were subsequently lost. Butbthen, that was literally all I was left with (aswell as my £250 and dinner, I remember eating my dinner feeling well dejected) And that was that. I really never thought I'd find another one ever again....

Until last week, when a chap on Facebook appeared and posted up a picture. I quickly made an offer (much less than my original bid) and the chap amazingly accepted! Even better, it was local in Birmingham! I set out today in my squeaky Peugeot, money in pocket and picked up this magnificent model.

Unfortunately no doors open, but the interior detail is second to none. The wood door cappings, the big trip computer, the auto T-handled gear selector are all faithful to the real thing.

The weight of this car is around the same as this 1 Kg barbell. It is a very heavy vehicle indeed.

To give an idea of scale. I have beside it a Burago Mercedes 190 and my recent purchase Polistil Jaguar XJ 4.2. Both 1.25.  The Rover is slightly larger.

So there you have it. 11 years of searching, waiting, losing, almost no detail, crude images and losing them too. I guess this is what it feels like for a collector of rare paintings to get his hands on a priceless masterpiece.

Now I just need to save my own real full-sized Rover Mk1 Sterling.

There was a chemist owner at the top of my street about 30 years ago when I still lived with my rents. I remember he had a D reg one. It looked amazing back in the day. The bloke aas very strange though. He looked like a cross between an umpalumpa and an ugnought.

He must have had to sit on a cushion to drive it.

Corgi Corvette DONE. Bit of a change from my usual primary colours but I think it works, decided to polish the headlight part rather than try and get the jewels out or masked, I like the contrast
