Childhood memory unlocked! Christmas 1985 I was given a Matchbox Streak Racing set that included 2 'glow window' cars - one of those being a Cortina exactly the same as that one - red body & glow windows (IIRC the other car that came with the set was a green Porsche 911)

I had a similar set with a red Porsche 911 & a black Chevrolet Corvette.

Only one way to find out

Yes folks, boxed Speed Strips set, and quite possibly unopened until the person I bought it from found it, probably in a charity shop going by this picture in their listing. How convenient that the price is covered by their thumb!

Inside are the instructions and sticker sheet

Plus everything else, undisturbed and sealed

So good in fact I can't bring myself to open anything!

I should be more excited about this but yet again it was sent just wrapped in plastic, so is a bit squashed. It's starting to wear me down, I shouldn't have to ask every seller to use a small amount of common sense but that's what it's come to

PXL_20260227_204310789.jpg.a862cfdc692a73c3062f516f3bbf727e.jpg

Now that brings back memories. I had that exact set but have no recollection of where it came from and I couldn't remember the brand name or manufacturer to look it up. Shame about the packaging - what is it with so many people nowadays not understanding how brutal postage can be?

Anyone else have one of these?

The red ramp pulled out and the car could shoot down it after you wound it up.

Mine was in mint condition but I dont know what happened to it. It seemed to just disappear about 10 -15 years ago.

Wow, memory unlocked! I had one of those back in the 80s. I guess it must have broken and been binned as I haven't seen mine for decades.

Want.

Kid paint cars are great, I love the contrast to how it was

I always wondered why the wheels and tyres reacted on this model, turns out the centres are plastic, not spun metal. Got away with the old tyres but one has a slight split in it. Quite a labour intensive build process, had to drill and tap 5 holes and I left the rear suspension in place, just removing the front steering system (one rivet). Doors also held in place by a cast bar rather than the flat spring familiar to us that have taken smaller Matchbox apart (two rivets). Base has the last two, glass seems to stay in place on it's own without the original attachment

Will need to check mine now. Ive always liked the King Size Charger as its completely stock. Do any like that actually exist any more? A bit like Escort MK1 1100s over here!

That’s why I like the lovely original KingSize Charger, but absolutely loathe the later hot rod one. Likewise the Cougar. It’s such a nice model in the original form, but it just loses all that when they butchered the casting to make them dragster hot rods.

Ive got one of the Fast & Furious Chargers in black here which is on my list to modify back into a stock one.

I reckon I could do something with it, hardest part is finding suitable size wheels

I did notice Matchbox deleted the door handles when modifying it which is slightly annoying

The charity shops around me have had a glut of 80s and 90s things of late.

Playskool bigfoot for £2.25.

I have another one somewhere it's a orange late 30s Chevy pickup that was a hand me down.

Cheers guys.

I've now bought a wrist release job from one seller, and a pair of wind-up Chargers from another seller. I'm trying to thin out my collection - it's going well 😂

On the subject of finding unexpected things, the new two packs have landed, and been on the pegs around 0.3 nanoseconds before all being snapped up. If anyone happens to find the Anglia or BTTF sets, grab me one of each please! People are also finding the Matchbox Jaguar XJC Chase in orange, slim chance but I'd really like this one...

Actually managed to make some acquisitions this week:

IMG_0411.JPG.ecc7d845e71a336f0adf58ddcdd83eae.JPG

Majorettes from Sainsbury's (blue one is a Corolla Altis which I think we've seen in other colours), 500SEL and reduced price Plymouth from Smyths, and older Merc found at Asda. If @AndyW201 or anyone else is desperate for either/both of the Mercedes then let me know.

IMG_0417.JPG.43f75b705a5f965a2010bc46dd88d1b1.JPG

All the HWs above from The Entertainer, they effectively cost me nothing! I had a Love 2 Shop voucher from Christmas 2024 that I hadn't fully spent, luckily I remembered before it expired in just a few days and happily they'd got a table laid out with this recent case. Good to have a new version of the non-Liberty Walk Skyline. Matchbox were from Poundland.

Cheers Nigel. I actually got the black Merc a few weeks ago after a rare restock at Asda. I've seen the 500SEL about but I noticed I got the original F&F release of it back in 2024 and it's identical to the new one, so haven't been too bothered about getting it. Thanks for the tag though, appreciated.

I always found it odd that the didn't release the MK4 until after the real Mk5 went on sale, also that they did the MK2 & 4, but no one did a MK1 or 3 in that size in the UK??

Or a Mk5 in any size in period??
