Had a load of stuff arrive from the seller who had the unusual Street Rodder I showed recently. Tried to build a bundle but stuff was selling almost as fast as he was listing, thanks to how unusual the cars were.

First up, Hare Splitter

First run of Hot Wheels XLs now in the local Tescotainer:

IMG_20260228_1204262.jpg.ee13ad70ad4d9ffa0c3e1abf32ee8cab.jpg

I've seen the fantasy El Segundo and Donut Drifter in Smyths a while back, but seemingly this was a fresh box that had just hit the pegs, with all six releases available.

It's weird holding them - I know it's been commented on already, but they just look exactly like mainline Hot Wheels releases in photos, so it's only when you have them in your hand the scale difference is so noticeable and perplexing. They're just so much bigger than they ought to be.

The Skyline in particular really did appeal and I very nearly bought it - I think the R32 is one of the best looking '90s sports saloons - but the thought of just cramming it under the bed with all the rest seemed just... a bit pointless. I don't really do this scale anymore, and although the detailing is more akin to a Silver Series release, it's still much more of a toy than model.

Now that's not to do it down, it just means that it'd look a bit off displayed alongside my Vanguards or IXO releases - if indeed I ever manage to work out how I want to display any of my models.

So I put it back. This time.

Some more recent-case Hot Wheels mainlines had also shown up:

IMG_20260228_120840.jpg.f04f391bb878f47a11c1a0b4f11b3fd2.jpg

Nice, though the Buzz Bomb was a bit plasticky - I hadn't realised that the lower pink section wasn't diecast, just the top bit. Just like the custom T3s released last year, now I think of it.

And newer Matchbox too:

IMG_20260228_1208342.jpg.bc5c2314c7275ac952ef371b14f700e9.jpg

Red Defender looked good, and the baby-blue Continental too.

Good to see there's a bit more stock coming through at last!

I think that's what Mattel were getting at without actually copying it. I'm not afraid of a bit of pink but I can't say this is my favourite livery. Still not sussed out making decals either, must get on with it and maybe buy Photoshop or similar.

Can I claim the Black BMW 3er convertible, the Red one too. Had two of those as a youngster.

Also, interested in both the blue and white Ford Sierras.

I'm not 100% sure, but they look roughly to be 1/43 scale.

Apologies if I caused any confusion but I’m not selling those cars. The ones I’ve fished out to be sold will go on my for sale thread at some point 👍🏻

Some new ones for me;

20260304_081613.jpg.173e2abe8894226d6c99fb6863303632.jpg

20260304_081601.jpg.627bfd9946af98df131127392841f672.jpg

One of the things that truly annoys me about some of the Matchbox range is the lack of detail on some fronts and rears. They've made an effort to make the front of the Range Rover PHEV looks great, but couldn't be arsed with the rear. Had to add a bit of black pen to bring out the rear. It hasn't done much tbh.

My most favourite it though is the MAN TG recovery truck with the beautiful e-type on the back.

20260304_081702.jpg.afb55aa6594bb46141a6e3cb65cee4f2.jpg

20260304_081709.jpg.cab01dbb80f09d79f82375af53cdf849.jpg

The e-type is something else, just an absolute thing of beauty. This is how Majorette should have made their e-types instead of with those horrid wheels.

Now, this came along with MAN TG truck and is supposed to be able to be lifted up on it by some bump-stops on the tail bed, unfortunately, the track on the e-type is too narrow:

20260304_082125.jpg.e8fbea5d30fbfc6c554675802a5a0e49.jpg

Yet, for other cars, it's fine:

20260304_082147.jpg.78c16cdf3d3864c147e34fc1dc995333.jpg

20260304_082201.jpg.2066e32332cb895f6b8b0a37a26b8f1d.jpg

So, why did they pick this specific e-type I wonder?

Anyhow, here is a comparison to Matchbox's attempt at an e-type:

20260304_083255.jpg.0e711fda89fb696866d98e3e18ecf0e5.jpg

20260304_083434.jpg.1b34aa4d462a2c4f5b304fa769cd7183.jpg

The body of Majorette's e-type is longer than Matchbox's e-type

And here is another two I've had for a while but probably didn't show;

It's a cost issue. Look at some other mainlines with side graphics, they'll likely not have any front or rear detail. I usually add some like you have.

Yeah, generally with Matchbox it seems that two surfaces get tampo printed with up to four colours, though sometimes you'll see side prints matched with a front print - but they'll normally be in only two, maybe three colours.

Think it's a mixture of Mattel having to keep production costs within certain tight parameters in terms of design/ tooling/ the number of decal application processes (each colour/ surface printed requires a separate production line) , while also choosing to hold back on detail a little for their standard mainlines, so that premium versions featuring better realism can be offered too.

The recent Transit EV is one that stands out as a real disappointment - the casting's great and the colour's lovely, but the front end looks so blank with no printing. I'm sure that's not how the designer wanted it to look.

Speaking of Matchbox, had a stroke of unexpected luck last night while breezing through my local Tesco, fairly late on.

Is that...?

First Super Chase I've encountered in the wild for a long time, and the first one I've really really wanted to find.

IMG_20260303_2143012.jpg.6eccbd02824f645ba68049db4786d354.jpg

Annoyingly, there were no shelf edge prices anywhere for either Hot Wheels or Matchbox mainlines - and we all know how Tescotainer loves to play around with their offers; some days it's Buy One, Get One Half Price, other days it's Buy Two, Get One Free.

So I thought I'd take three mainlines to the self-serve till, and see what transpired - Lincoln is great in that baby-blue, and I've been agonising over the Jeep J10 for months now.

As it happened, there were no offers applicable at all and I wound up paying £2.40 each for the three MB, plus £4 for the Hot Ones Datsun Bluebird (which has a lovely chunky feel to it - first Hot Ones I've ever bought for myself).

Ah well, I'm very pleased nonetheless.

I’ve been after a Radio Rentals Corgi Escort for ages now since I missed one at the toy fair, got out bid, missed on oa Vinted one @bunglebus tipped me off about, and then didn't win Dick’s roffle 😆

Then a battered bargain one appeared in a box on ebay and I struck gold finally! Don't think its ever left the box, and the doors don't appear to have been closed ever either!

They should be three for two still - it didn't work for me the other day so I went to customer service to sort it out, luckily the guy from Entertainer was down the aisle restocking

I considered trying customer services, but since there were no offer labels I could point to on the shelves, I thought there was no point.

The store was about 40 minutes off closing, so I reckoned maybe there was a new promotion starting tomorrow and The Entertainer had knocked the old one off their systems a bit early. I'm still not quite sure how the toy shop concession works within Tesco.

I did ok with those Premiums scanned through as mainlines the other week, so swings and roundabouts I guess!

Ordered a ball peen hammer to try and peen the ends of the axles on the Mercury Commuter as per factory, only succeeded in bending one. In the end a hollow ended punch spun in my drill in hammer mode created a tiny lip, just enough to stop the (Mustang) wheels falling off. Looks alright I reckon
