Waa, confusion continues! A GL with round headlights.

Also, what are the chances on the number plate! I presume the model one is perhaps an Eastern European plate?

I’m sure an original style 244/5 GL should have round lights? It was that type that were discontinued for the facelift like my 79 model.
Small square lights were a DL only feature. Although I’m sure I’ve seen them on non DL cars so maybe they’re easier to get as replacements than round lights so get retrofitted?

@MiniMinorMk3

That PremiumX 244 looks exactly like the one I’ve got, but mines red (I’m 99% sure it’s red anyway!). I need to find it now!

Somewhere here is a 242 but I can’t remember the make. Don’t think it’s a NEO though. I’m sure it’s silver with some cool period striping.

Had a quick look where I thought the 244 was but it’s not there. Must be in another box!
But, I did find a PremiumX Volvo 780.

Fresh out of a box in the conservatory hence why the glazing is slightly steamed up!

Ive had that model some years now. Can’t remember where it came from or how much it cost, but you can clearly see the quality and finish difference between this and the partwork versions.

Popped into nearby town yesterday, nothing of interest in Sainsbury's, Poundland or an independent toy shop, but found this little selection in a secondhand/antiques shop:

Always good to get more Majorettes, especially in the case of the BX 4 TC which is a new one to me. First time I've found the pickup with a canopy, though I wonder if it's the correct one here? Matchbox Mercedes and Firebird SE are more nice examples of the road cars they were doing back then, the latter is from 1982 and says Made in England so must be one of the last they launched here?

The BX4tc was citreons cancelled group B car ( 205 T16) only a handful were made.

Had a variation pointed out to me - Toe Joe comes with early

Matchbox Superfast 74 Toe Joe

Or late booms

Matchbox Superfast 74 Toe Joe

The end is either a square or cross shape.

Those two cars were in a lot I bought, and I got rid of one as they were in very similar condition. I wonder if I kept the more unusual early version at the top?

That Princess looks like new!  Well found there.  I think Dinky made a pretty good job of matching Reynard Metallic too, didn't it suit the car?

Not a clue. Given it has a prominent towbar, I guess it's something to do with whatever its supposed to tow. I've seen a couple with caravans attached and others with other things attached.

Yes, looking at the prices, the metallic coloured ones seem to go for a lot more than the white ones. I managed to get this for a discounted price. Not massively cheap but I realise that finding a cheap one in this condition is very unlikely.

The Dinky Princess is absolutely ace in my opinion. They got it just right.

I've got a white and black MIB example and what was a tatty Reynard one which I resprayed Ford Bermuda Blue in the mid 1990s. A typical 'auction-ready' blowover of the day 😂

I made it down from Galway to Limerick, a few of the traders from the south had to turn back because of snow,  localised blizzard near Shannon on way  back covered the motorway, someone put their van  in the centre barrier. I got a really nice Majorette Ritmo, 5 in 2nd photo all from the €1 tray, Schuco Mercedes C111 is a lovely little thing

I’ve had quite a delivery of cut price 1/36 Corgis recently, all bought filthy or in crushed damp packaging for just posh hotwheels money. First up the scrubbed up mini catalogue no 200 from 76-78. These are subjective to different colours but I like these blue ones and the silver from the same period.

IMG_3285.jpeg.6f0adfea9b162164aa79c75adb4be3a1.jpeg

Next up the Matra/Talbot Rancho. seen with the Sierra, but we see plenty of them on this thread, so thats its only snap!

I had both this Rancho and the Superkings as a kid, quite favourite with a lot of play value with the folding seats and tailgates. Just the mini above was a long lived casting in many colours, even though the whites not an obvious one. It’s catalogue no 457 and once released was mint within the crumpled packet.

The best bit though? Pinging the famous corgi wheel clips off for the first time in 40 years felt good 😆

IMG_3291.jpeg.a3ac89bf4955383d20c9286e865842df.jpeg

Lastly the Jeep Renegade that corgi squeezed plenty of life out of! I’m not sure how long it lasted, but it must span 20+ years. This version catalogue 447 cam in blue, red and yellow and normally has an aerial (I have it but its snapped orf!) Quite a weighty thing and plenty of play value.

I think I’ve got one of those minis but it’s in that vomit yellow colour they did the real ones in. Curiously mine says British Leyland on the base.

Posted

I have quite a few of the 1/36 Mini casting but it seems the ones with the early front only came in a few colours. My pal Euan had an orange and a yellow issue and I swapped him the orange one and painted it black to emulate a Mini 30. I also got a silver one a few years ago from one of you lot. They all say British Leyland Mini 1000 on the base.

Corgi updated the casting in 1989 for the Mini's 30th Birthday and all issues that year said 'Mini 30 1989' on the base. The car got new separate headlights with a chrome backing and clear lens and also gained a pair of front headrests together with small whelarch flares like all 12-inch wheeled cars got.

Throughout the 1990s the base was changed to say just 'Mini', and most releases got Minilite wheels with rubber tyres. In 1999 they updated the casting again with the X-Pack which had 13 inch wheels, larger flared arches, door mirrors and some had driving lamps. There was also a slightly sad last version released which I've only seen in 2012 Olympics livery which had non-opening doors.

By all accounts one of the most fun Mini models other than the Mini Manifique of the late 1960s.

Another oddball larger-scale Italian car for the collection, a 1/25 Polistil Alfa Giulietta.

20250105_170019.jpg.0d4ce6af589032cd53a75f240c507ca7.jpg

It's quite a basic model with just a sticker representing the front grille and lights. I stuck it back down with some 'tacky glue' that my wife uses. My Bburago example on the other hand is very detailed with 4 separate parts here for indicators, lamps, grille and badge, plus full opening features and steering.

It looks like both Bburago and Polistil had more basic lines and higher-range models with extra features and more detail.

For example the Bburago Fiat Panda,  Mini Metro and VW Golf have just 2 or 3 opening parts, no steering, plain clear light lenses and yellow wheel centres. But cars like the above Alfa and much older Mercedes S Class had a plethora of details, chrome plated parts, engine detail and the Alfa has steering as well. The latter 2 are not stickered up as rally cars either.

Several Polistil models like the Giulietta, Lamborghini Muira and Porsche 928 are even more basic although the Alfa does at least have an authentic steering wheel unlike the generic and terribly fragile red one that the basic Bburagos were fitted with. I can't work out if Polistil went from superbly detailed models like the Fiesta, Beetles, Rover SD1 and Citroen CX, to these basic ones and then swung back under Tonka ownership to create great models like the Volvo 740 and Lancia Y10, or of there was always a cheaper range. I'll find out the more I buy!
