There's another one on eBay with a different colour interior for £HFM? because it's a colour trial apparently

Mine is white and missing it's roof rack and most of it's stickers!

It's quite hard doing thing imperfectly on purpose, like masking up and painting the grille and headlights rather than using a brush. I did get a bit of overspray on the bonnet but I wouldn't be surprised to see an original like that. While fiddling with it I did discover a casting change I didn't know about, the little tab that sticks down under the front number plate. This has it, the one I customised a while back does not

I'd like the Capri one or the older one with a 60s galaxie but can never find them like most of the stuff put on here.

There were loads in Smyths if you want one. Going diecast hunting tomorrow

Ford set looks pretty good - the generic Fleet Flyer truck kinda resembles a Ford D Series from the side.

Might swing past Smythe tomorrow and see what's on the pegs.

I think I'm going to free that one, as much as I'm not a big Ferrari fan I think this is such a lovely pair, the transporter itself is just great.

Picked up two 10 packs as there are new ones out, and Smyths are knocking them out for £8.99 currently

I haven’t done much lately. Combination of winter blues and cold out in the shed putting me off going out. Plus I’ve been building bits of my display diorama thing.

Ive forced myself out this afternoon though and started something I’ve been planning for a little while.
Im going to build a couple of US air force vehicles. One will be a Dodge RAM pickup, which should be a simple repaint job from the Bond in motion partwork truck. The other is a bit more involved, as I fancy doing one of the 70’s built International Loadstar personnel buses they used on bases all over the US and many other places they had bases (like Mildenhall). Some were even registered for the roads outside the bases too.

As ever though, nothing is ever available as you want it so a bit of butchery is needed to create it!
Starting point for the bus is a GMC prison bus and a Loadstar based fire truck. Both are from partwork collections but are IXO based. I did want to do a Loadstar truck but unfortunately there’s nothing available in 1:43 with the International cab, only the front cowl like this fire truck.

IMG_8644.jpeg.4f8150c71f50ccb8f4c413e8402ce016.jpeg

Stripped. (Yes I’ve got lots of those buses!😆)

IMG_8645.jpeg.087c9b6b9076f298999ac20509c06159.jpeg

The way the buses go together is a bit different to most of these models. The bus part is diecast metal but the cowl (bonnet & wings etc) is plastic and completely separate. This actually makes life easier!

IMG_8650.jpeg.014cfc7782075dde2f49e78aaeaee598.jpeg

Bus body went into the stripping bay. The paint just peels off in sheets on these!

IMG_8655.jpeg.26be9213ee38b38725551b329ec7b062.jpeg

The fire truck has been stripped of delicate bits I don’t want to break the offered up to the original GMC front end just to gauge size.
Which is actually excellent! They’re very close. The rear bit of the wheel arches is actually exactly the same, so I’m anticipating this to be a pretty good fit once it’s been chopped off the fire truck body. I haven’t got this far yet, but the cut will be pretty much straight down the front of the windscreen.

IMG_8651.jpeg.c01672dd71a02762d8d0aa9e61fbb46c.jpeg

The buses of this type were all built as a chassis & cowl by the big truck manufacturers. Then were sent to a coach builder (like Wayne, Superior etc etc) who built the bus bodywork onto them. They were all very similar really and made generally the same for decades! The biggest difference being simply the length. Some were absolutely enormous but others were tiny and looked ridiculous.
I was going to do the International bus as a yellow school bus but then found some photos of them in USAAF dark blue and decided that looked nicer and was a bit different!

While on the subject of American buses…

Another one in my stockpile is a Ford F600 but this one is one of those crude locally built ones cobbled together and used in countries like Chile, Peru etc.

IMG_8652.jpeg.a767ebec9ea3daf2a7596a16b2dfb7bb.jpeg

These are similar in construction to the GMC above but are all plastic with a diecast chassis. Just as easy to disassemble though.
The front cowl is about all I want from this one. This and the GMC cowl will become trucks. Ford used the light duty 70’s era truck cabs on their medium duty trucks (like the F600, 700 etc etc) just with wider wings and front panels so a cab shouldn’t be difficult to sort. GM did exactly the same thing using the light duty C/K series ‘square body’ pickup cabs on their medium duty truck range so the GMC cowl above can be made into a Chevy Kodiak.

IMG_8654.jpeg.53a45591224b2d7c0a2a60356ebb032b.jpeg

Plenty still on the go too, but the cold weather isn’t great for painting so I’ve left these be for now. Some just need a few bits of reassembly to finish them.

IMG_8648.jpeg.8c2cb4b4ade0ff2cd15751069bfa1711.jpeg

And I still need to get to laptop out and start designing some transfers for number plates and truck branding, like the P&O Roadways Scania and its trailer!

That Rolls looks cool. You need a heater in your shed, mine probably sends the meter spinning but it's a decent temperature in my outhouse at least now

The Rolls is/was a smashed Bond one. I got it cheap off eBay ages back as it’d come loose in the box and rattled itself apart. It was white I think.

Ive got one of those heaters with the heat lamp elements in, which rotates when switched on, but I’m reluctant to use it with electricity being so expensive. I don’t know what the cheapest way to heat it would be really.
A small wood burner would be brilliant but quite possibly not the safest in a timber shed full of aerosol cans😄

They heat up you but not stuff, I've got a dirty great 3kw fan heater that came out of a shop. Too old to be cold

I stick one of those electric convectors on before spraying in the shed, that works ok.

Strangely, this shed is far better insulated than the one at the old house but definitely seems to feel colder. Unless it’s just me becoming more of a wimp over the last year.

There is a small-ish oil filled electric radiator here but I’m not sure how power hungry that is either. I know the oil certainly holds the warmth quite a while even after it’s turned off.

In not hugely knowledgeable about Hotwheels,  is there anything particularly special or unusual about those Ferrari sets? Ive sent them listed for crazy amounts on selling sites recently.

Just Ferrari fanboys wanting them, Mattel only got their licence back to start making toy Ferraris again this year after a long break ( Ferrari being notoriously difficult about who gets to make stuff that looks like their stuff), so the regular Hot Wheels Ferraris were in demand when they came out, and this set got snapped up the instant it landed and sold on at vastly inflated prices. Now there seem to be lots in the shops as a second batch have arrived
