More stuff sold back to the guy I bought them from, he must not have known what was in all the storage boxes as we didn't really go through them. At this rate he'll have refunded me and paid the £90 ULEZ fine I got for picking them up!

Is there a back story to why he sold it all?

The red light district is an eye opener. I thought they’d all be old hags but most of them looked like supermodels.

That is where the programme I am watching is Bij ons op de Wallen. De Wallen is the RLD.  There are families that live there too. Some of the sex workers are  trans. Just make sure you ask before you try😉

I don't think things were going well for him, not long out of hospital, partner had left and he was renting a room in a HMO, just him and the dog. Bit sad really

Toy fair stuff from this morning, please complain if you're fed up with me posting these with prices as a waste of space and I'll stop doing it.

Mrs Concern got a decent bundle for £15

IMG_0672.thumb.JPG.1e638e2962c360bae624dfbe3273dc41.JPG

Probably paid over the odds at £5 for this Corgi milk tanker with the wrong Bedford cab, but I thought as the TK does have the mirrors which are £1.70 for repro ones and I have a spare S type cab, why not?

IMG_0673.thumb.JPG.2b40d6673fbdcecb21228dea3c3eb229.JPG

£5 for these three. Who collects the Polistil 1/25 model, is it @Split_Pin? If so do you want it (no problem if you don't btw)

IMG_0674.thumb.JPG.da1dc149b3c1f0f98c1f45b1e8b9babb.JPG

£5 for these three too, I don't really collect the Corgi 1/36 but the Jeep is pretty much mint and has the top, which I've not seen before and the XJS was lonely. I thought Eddy would want the green tank thing and he does!

IMG_0675.thumb.JPG.e439c18646076284db72f08288642f1c.JPG

Strange mixture here, the Firebird has no writing at all on the base, no no idea, but it's nice! He wanted £2.

Corgi CopTina (thanks for the name @eddyramrod!) is mint and £8, again I don't really like cop cars much, but couldn't leave it behind. The 100 Avant is lovely, I thought it was a Conrad, but it's not. He wanted £6. Let me have them all for £15 which I was happy with.

IMG_0676.thumb.JPG.b90c84bcaa58b245ffbd5eb999fb76e1.JPG

Apparently it's a Shabak Modell (never heard of them) looks like it was dealer model

IMG_0681.thumb.JPG.30eb95a59ce28dcbba2c04ad46afa63b.JPG

Tomte or Galanite Mini, not seen one before, wanted £12 and he let me have it for £8 which I'm sure is too dear, but hey.

IMG_0677.thumb.JPG.460b00c47c589681275c5c4bd8073c40.JPG

Crappy Realtoys Evo for £1, I like it for no reason I can explain

IMG_0678.thumb.JPG.94292a3154502e917c9ba25767c05c9c.JPG

Two plastic Norevs for £15, the Ami is gorgeous!

IMG_0679.thumb.JPG.cb1346f2597b52511e34735f2b08c904.JPG

I've been looking for a French Dinky Simca estate with the folding picnic table for ages and never seen one. The seller I bought the Norevs from had a lovely original in the box which I really wanted, but it was £100. I decided I didn't want it that much! So when I spotted this Atlas repro for £14 I didn't hesitate. Well maybe just a bit!

IMG_0680.thumb.JPG.205d13780efa8a69a564a4a59b9507cf.JPG

Here's the lot, no real bargains, but it kept me out of trouble for today...

Ah of course, still I bet they will turn up at some point in B&M or some odd place. Looks like the green ones are 4 per box by the looks of it.

I know exactly where they will turn up.  Ebay and toyfairs, at a hugely inflated price.  The green ones won't be far behind.

Schabak's subject matter was good, but sadly even when new their quality control wasn't always great - the model shop where I worked at in the mid-90s stocked them, but I recall that models often arrived with droopy doors, popped-out glazing, detached bootlids, paint blemishes etc.

I used to try to fix these in my lunch hour, but a fair few had to be marked down as damaged stock - even though they arrived with us like that. I sometimes wondered if the distributor was fobbing us off with factory seconds. I would have put them as about equal with the Solido HiFi range in terms of detailing, but worse in terms of QC - and they were a bit more expensive, too.

Once we started stocking 1/43 models with really good detailing such as Minichamps and Trofeu, the market for Schabak and Gama seemed to just dry up altogether.

Posted

I have a lot of 1/25 Schabak models, I think they're great. Remember that this was around the time of Bburagos and Polistils and compared to those they were a lot more detailed. They were also about four times the price. A 1/25 model was around £25 in 1990 whereas a Bburago would be around £6. I also have some quite late models, from around the early 1990s which were new releases and far better quality. They have poseable steering and improved trim and interiors.

2 interesting models I have are a BMW E36 Saloon in 1/25 which is badged as a Gama and another M3 Coupe which is badged as as Schuco.  They are outwardly identical to a Schabak though.

All seemed to disappear in favour of 1/43 Paul's Model Art products in the mid 1990s which were leaps and bounds ahead in every respect.

This is the Matchbox car that, circa 1986, I hoped and prayed they'd do. I already loved the Astra GTE and XR3i cabriolet they did at that time, and an XR2 would have gone great with those. Still, better late than never!

Not mad keen on those wheels, but overall, it looks a little belter.

Ah, screw it, I'm going to  have to actually get this one out of the card aren't I?

IMG_20241105_213635.jpg.ee58692602ac66577e084f48420da2e0.jpg

Quite clever making the lower section in plastic (presumably incorporating the interior unit?), meaning the bumpers and body kit look more realistic than painted bits.

IMG_20241105_213257.jpg.ff01f1f1ff046ec33667371b9ffb310f.jpg

The bumper and front valance are faithful to the real thing. Shame the front spots are missing but I suppose theyd be too fiddly to replicate properly at this scale and price point.

IMG_20241105_213216.jpg.7df10098ab7d5ac638fa24ff002ed227.jpg

The rear end looks really good, note the obligitory big bore pipe!

IMG_20241105_213231.jpg.d127c66d01522c2b2c9498b50584a880.jpg

Nice attempt at the horseshoe rear spoiler and rear wiper.

IMG_20241105_213411.jpg.619cc62a250988d75460f92b834b8591.jpg

Like 1980s Majorettes, there is junk in the trunk, looks like my old Philips Roller from the '80s...

IMG_20241105_213738.jpg.f68e5343b63d06d6ea3bbb21bee1c92d.jpg

Naturally, interior detail is a bit rudimentary, but the dash does look Fiesta-ish.

Another good thing is that this is another toy/model (delete as appropriate) of a real car I owned, as Mk2 Fiestas are unbelievably hard to get/expensive in miniature. After having 2 shite cars after I passed my test, I wanted something in actual nice condition, and a bit sporty. Being the early '90s and in the middle of the period of the TWOCing problem in this country, and crazy premiums on hot hatches for young drivers, I couldnt afford to insure an XR2,  (£1200 for a 19 year old back in 1993!) so settled for an immaculate low mileage white 1.4 S, which was the next best thing.

IMG_20241105_213816.jpg.7953b72c5b60b9b263904f76f1cded11.jpg

With thanks to AliExpress again, (prices for these on ebay are stratospheric) for taking me back to my teens for a while.

Just need Corgi to pull their finger out and get their Vanguards Mk2, that they've had in the pipeline for ages, out now!

I got a red Fiesta a few weeks ago from AliExpress, didn't want to pay the ebay prices for one! Worked out about £6 altogether with the charges and the shipping. Worth it I thought considering how much I normally waste every weekend traipsing around my local retailers only to fund the same old shit gathering dust on the pegs. My local Tesco is still trying to get rid of the blue Autozams and green Rancheros. They will be there for eternity...

I've also got a green Power Grabs Fiesta winging its way from the Far East too, for the above reason...

I don't really collect the Corgi 1/36 but the Jeep is pretty much mint and has the top, which I've not seen before and the XJS was lonely

The lonely Jaguar XJ-S was a good buy, as it is one of the least common finds; a marketing type of special for 1981.   It's the Corgi Supercat Jaguar XJS-H.E. release, modelled on the Jaguar relaunch edition with the twin side stripe graphic along with the improved 'High Efficiency' V12 engine.

The real thing was a metallic black (and others), costing £18,950.  Which is £106k today...

If you squint a bit on the advert, you can just about make out the side graphic.

Anyway, never seen one, either the real thing, or the Corgi model !

There was also a larger plastic R/C car, in the deep red

Looks to be a adaption of The Saint XJS 1:20 scale plastic body, which was simply sonic controlled.  Now upgraded to proper control

Never seen one of these either.

Good score. They're always broken

I've noticed that Polistil had a bit of an issue naming the car. It's a 1302 on the box, a 1303 in the box but both badged and described as a 1300.

I spent about half an hour talking to the seller when I got there, who looked in his early 70s, lovely chap. It was an old cottage in the middle of nowhere with muscovy ducks in the garden. In the shed he had a massive collection of car and train models as well as lorry badges and other valuable items. Sadly they belonged to his brother who was in a care home costing £75,000 a year and it was all being sold off to help contribute to that.

What particularly caught my eye was a tidy 1/24 Dinky Capri in metallic blue and a mint and boxed Bburago RR Camargue desk tidy from the 1970s. AND he was selling his 2.5 turbo petrol manual Volvo S80. I had to go before I bought the lot 😂 He also had some lovely and very large-looking boxed vintage Solido and Sun Star cars. Not normally my thing but I'd make an exception for these.

So what you're saying is, by hoarding investing in diecast now, I'm saving my family from financial hardship later?
