Ah I’m mixing it up with this one…

That's the one I found half of the other week,  hence picking up those small containers - that aren't actually part of the set...

Funny as a kid I wasn't aware the Dinky 101 existed, most of my toy cars were Corgi, I imagine the local toy shop only stocked them and not Dinky, Spot On etc.

Yeah, Dinky were weird and a bit snobby because for a long time they would only sell through 'Approved Stockists' - usually prestigious department stores or large toy shops which undertook to carry the full range and provide suitable window display space. Smaller independent toy shops, or places like newsagents and general stores which might have carried some toys, weren't allowed to carry Dinky.

I'm not sure at what point this policy ended, but it might have been why you couldn't find Dinky locally!

Some more code 3’s/customs or whatever you want to call them from me.

I started this one on the weekend. Bond collection Chevy BelAir. Not what people immediately think of when you say Chevy BelAir but it’s the final outing for the BelAir name which by the 70’s had become the base model of full size Chevy sedans similar to the higher spec Caprice and Impala.

I got this one very cheap because of its condition. The display card sleeve was missing, chrome on bumpers peeling off and the base screws were incredibly rusty and hard to get out. I suspect it’s been stored somewhere damp for a long time to get like that but it makes for a cheap repaint candidate!

Did the usual strip down and respray into BMW deep sea blue metallic.

Also sprayed the Austin A55.
Decided on two tone because I enjoy making things difficult for myself! The masking up for the turquoise was a pain in the arse!

It's not as bright as it looks in the pic! Masking worked well thankfully so I’ll let it harden off then start on the bright trims.

Mid job on this… for the uninitiated it’s going to be a Gran Canaria Taxi like I remember travelling in as a kid. Need to make an antenna and find a way of putting Taxi on the doors. Plus a roof sign.

Today I went to the Brighton Toy Museum for the 2nd time and it was still really interesting...

I think that's a Maisto - I recognise the other, modernish Chinese jobbie

I have had this Polistil Citroen CX for ages.  Several years ago I was experimenting with suitable back drops - this one is in fact a tea tray with an appropriate Frenchness.  At the time, I was not satisfied with the result.  I've just rediscovered the attempt amongst my photo files and thought 'What the hell. Why not post it.'

Had a few deliveries arrive. Sadly, a mint boxed Majorette was sent in a small jiffy bag, so that's the end of the box

Car is thankfully undamaged

Next up is a casting I've tried to buy before but without success - Polistil's somewhat disproportionate MK1 Escort

I always thought these were around 1:43 scale but it's smaller than a Corgi Junior

On the subject of comparisons, another car I've been hunting for for a long time, getting sniped on a nice one not so long ago. In the end I bit the bullet and accepted an offer price on a Hot Wheels Classic 36 Ford Coupe

Entertainer got a new M case in yesterday but all the Bumblebee Beetles had been nabbed.

Been looking for one of those.

Dry as a bone around here, even smyths didn't have anything interesting.

That Escort is from the Polistil RJ series. These were 1/55 and 1/66 scale that originally started as the Politoys Penny Series.

However, the 1/43rd scale AE Series Polistil Escort is quite a bad casting as well.
