More modern-er models of old cars nearing completion.

Daz’s shed of a Cortina is almost done. Daz is one of those true ‘lads’ who lives on the local sink estate and gets himself into all manner of mischief in his quest to blag his way through life. He can’t afford a decent car so this end of life Cortina has to do. Mismatched panels from other scrap cars to ‘fix’ rust and accident damage (mostly caused by his attempted and failed ram raid of the local off license!), rust coming through in the usual places, Black Death patches on the sills from previous MOT welding repairs and a coating of general grime. The only clean bit is his prized alloyz (of questionable provenance) from a Capri… which funnily enough there is one up on bricks in the next street…

Ive enjoyed doing this one. It’s exactly how I remember them running around when I was a kid! Just about still going, but only a bad MOT fail away from the crusher - and it is rapidly coming! Usually living in the poorer parts of town.
I think it’s a real shame cars don’t age like that anymore!

Next up, a mk2 Transit. In white.
Started life as a blue Renault liveried race team support van. Stripped it completely down, swapped the side door from side to side, respray into white. Interior has been swapped to right hand drive and a ply bulkhead added.
I had to paint in the black frames to the door windows as they were painted blue as the model came, which looked odd.
Still needs finishing but it’s close now.

Bedford TK removal truck is in the paint shop now too. Box body is top coated white, cab & chassis are in primer. I’ll do the cab in white too, then mark up the box body & cab for the second colour. Chassis will be satin black.
I’ve also made up a pair of early style door mirrors from some scrap wire.

IMG_4741.jpeg.56b7586b5885575d8f909f907a1ee2ec.jpeg

It’s time consuming doing some of these, but I really enjoy doing them! It’s like making miniature versions of what you remember since you can’t see it for real anymore.

Ex @bunglebus ISO Grifo getting a rebuild. The screen pillar is cracked so a bit of a medley is getting made up from a Super GT shell, a superfast glazing unit and a regular wheels chassis.

A box arrived(undamaged)today. In it were a couple of things @bunglebus had picked up for me.

1st was the HotWheels Beavis and Butthead Pacer.I don't normally buy stuff like this, but it's my favourite cartoon ever so I had to have one20240531_184501.jpg.8f00e0f8b42f72ff414c9464df47e15d.jpg

This rules,it RULES!20240531_184122.jpg.ea7e012a380fcede8d9ea0994d7eb16b.jpg

The other car was this Matchbox Dinky Mini Cooper, which is as close as I could find to my 1st car.20240531_183502.jpg.a3fc9a299d980c38dcc38f698e8f2448.jpg

Mine wasn't a Cooper, just a 1000,but it was the same colour,& did end up with a set of Cooper steelies.

Thanks again Rich!

I've had this Hot Wheels Mebetoys Boss Mustang from new when I was a kid and it's one I always really liked. It should have black stuck on stripes and pony logos, but they kind of curled up at the edges when fairly new and the young me pulled them off and binned them

IMG_9565.JPG.5949ed506d88a4561436c596b30e1fce.JPG

While I was making up the decals for the Corgi 911 I posted yesterday, I also made some for this so it can look as it should for the first time in over 50 years!

IMG_9567.JPG.fdb54ef9a4d77afc208108acbcbf9a88.JPG

I cut them with a big triangle of clear to look just like the originals as much as possible

IMG_9568.JPG.391fb5bc47aa7f22dd0b69ebe704a8e1.JPG

It really is a nice toy

IMG_9569.JPG.12b6687927fef69f04e5cc5cb1b1a077.JPG

I remember having games racing it along the front room carpet with a Corgi Mustang & Roger Clark Capri plus a dinky Capri

IMG_9570.JPG.7232528b34acd6f41eb30c60893f2988.JPG

Despite the Hot Wheels looking pretty detailed and accurate, it doesn't jar when placed with Corgis of similar age

IMG_9572.JPG.4e6d54e9319ee56bbcb62a2074a14d9c.JPG

whereas I found that wasn't the case with these newish model Cudas imoIMG_9573.JPG.0587d920a3a33fcb82594b865dde0d01.JPG

They look great too and are lovely and heavy, but somehow to me they look too accurate to appeal to me, much more a model for a collector than a toy which is why I've resisted Vanguards and similar so far. I had been contemplating getting a Vanguards XR3i to represent one I owned, but now I've decided against it fo that reason.

IMG_9574.JPG.e9c74e051725e82bef5063c64cd75e81.JPG

I'll probably regret it later, but if @eddyramrod and @flat4alfa would still like one of the Cudas, let me know...

Went to a village/town on Naaaarfolk called Aylsham and decided I wanted to live there instead.  After I came to my senses, I went into a charity shop

Spotted this Hot Wheels 1969 Red Line called TURBOFIRE that was sitting with some Matchbox of same era.  I was mesmerised.

20240531_205554127_iOS.jpg.a62275599e6e6afe7167cd560c88eb47.jpg

It still has a working and not borken/lost rear hood, exposing a turbine motor

20240531_205425352_iOS.jpg.8ec64025d4589a2e5b5d03412f952b74.jpg

It was in a cabinet with a price tag of doom tied to it.  I thought I'd be paying too much for it but then I looked at sales sites which priced it way higher.  Then I reminded myself of last night's campsite bar bill and talked myself into it

20240531_205348242_iOS.jpg.41ee1a3e54cc946ad72545dd02a233a4.jpg

It has a red arse detail, which would probably match my own if she found out I'd bought yet another toy car

20240531_205543517_iOS.jpg.33df0f2af7dd41d20c91e0a37d746b35.jpg

Made in USA not Honk Kong, so I bought it

That's cool, would sit nicely with that Torero I found on Monday. Bet it was more than 72p though!

Posted

72p was never going to be achievable with that (nice but stern) sales lady, despite my best smile and chats

In fact I blame that Torero for liking that blue so much

A couple sourced by @bunglebus, thanks!

The white wheels on the S2000 are a bit bland.

Found these in a secondhand toys/games shop:

£2 each.

Calendar on the Majorette truck will be correct again in 2043....

Yes I agree, shame I only have the Mustang, I don't remember buying it and must have been a strange one to find in Herne Bay 1970, but I definitely had it from new.

I'm sure anyone with more up to date technology/skills could do it better and quicker. I used MS Paint 98 to draw the decals then pasted them into Word (office 2007 if you want to know!) in order to get the size right easily. Printed on clear sticky label stuff.

Reminds me of this one, especially as like the model it's actually not a Cortina but a German import Taunus.

OK I've got to say it, what Charity shops do some of you guys go in ?

The ones I go in never have cool old toys, they just have fucking shelves full of wanky bloody romance novels, some cheap plastic shit toys that Mabel who runs it will think are nice for the children.., assorted hideous cups and shelves of shite Toy story & Die Hard DVDs.

All of them. Very occasionally I find cars, either in poor areas for 50p or posh areas for stupid money

Today's haul:

You've perfectly described basically all the charity shops round my way. On the rare occasions they do have diecast, it's the inevitable infestation of Days Gone.

Steve Flowers again, he does this sticker set, and added to this Daimler Ambulance, not quite sure it doesn't look more like an En-ger-land flag as the original didn't have a white backing. Hey ho, adds a bit of interest to a fairly tame model in the range.

I've been looking for a decent white MR2, this was in the case

Along with a Rancho - should be towing a dingy IIRC

Triple black, no opening bits Z struck me as slightly unusual

Yeah another one...

A couple of horse boxes - funny enough I found a tub with lots of commercial stuff in, but she was a little expensive and put me off. These were again in the carry case

First stall I came to is a regular seller that always has boxes of tatty cars piled high. Half the time I don't bother looking but he said he'd put some new ones in that morning. Found the RS2000 first, then the trailer, and finally the plastic cover

That's a good score - but when I went to put it away I noticed this

What the hell? Is there a matching lighter metallic green glider trailer to find too?

Talking of trailers

And a decent 'cycle

Lastly, that carry case. I'm not especially a collector of these, I've kept an early Hot Wheels one and a similar era Matchbox - but as I've mentioned I rather like Zylmex, especially their earlier efforts. This one's a keeper
