But! That's not all... because today you see, there was a Bunglebox in the mix also...

IMG_20240223_1216052.thumb.jpg.5c70bba71c3ca2761870744f7b0c15f7.jpg

And within was...

IMG_20240223_1222532.thumb.jpg.4708c9347036b7e45e893650e1272cf3.jpg

Some Matchbox I couldn't resist when they came up on the @bunglebus sales thread.

IMG_20240223_1223282.thumb.jpg.befdaf53d1d53a578794eade0088cc70.jpg

A few service vehicles which appear better than the ones I have already...

IMG_20240223_1223502.thumb.jpg.a43244a5e8d1ab541f6566cacbe63f4b.jpg

And some construction site vehicles likewise.

Some of these may go down to my folks' place for my brother's kids to play with, but I'm already thinking they're maybe a bit too nice for that.

Plus some others:

IMG_20240223_1224272.thumb.jpg.ec29babb05a6d1472a08e50159b05e81.jpg

The controversial generic tractor unit which may have been modified from a Leyland prototype (and which I erroneously thought for years was a Mercedes); a Rover SD1 peelermobile with more paint than my current version, and a delightful Land Rover 90 which is exactly the same as one I had as a kid, only it's not had the roof turned yellow with prolonged UV light exposure.

And! Bonus unexpected Corgi Cubs:

IMG_20240223_1224522.thumb.jpg.824dbec2f9ffc44a22825088ab5814ba.jpg

The ambulance isn't one I've had before, and the Fire Chief car's a bit cleaner than the one I already have.

Hmm... maybe the kids should get these instead, and I'll hang on to the Matchbox a wee bit longer...

There were also these:

IMG_20240223_1225422.thumb.jpg.23f371dc0e8baef236c2104f96c53874.jpg

Recent Mattel releases which I've found unaccountably difficult to track down locally.

I believe the Proton and bay window VW pickup were sourced from Germany, so this truly is an international operation happening on the Smol Tat Thread.

Which brings us to an additional Proton that was in the box - one that'll be added to the current @andy18stat box, for eventual shipping onwards to Bulgaria.

IMG_20240223_1226142.thumb.jpg.6eb7db0bba69c1eb5905f65cc25007a2.jpg

So there we go... I tell you, it's a whirlwind...

Posted

Is that the finish line for today?

IMG_20240223_1228422.thumb.jpg.ddbf351be4887824e398640e54e60666.jpg

Y'know, I think it is.

I'm adding in the Matchbox Magirus Deutz fire tender as I still reckon it's been a pretty special find this week - and also because researching the history of the casting kept me up waaay too late, and sort of spilled over into Tat Friday by default.

So there we are - a banger of a day, and all thanks to @bunglebus for making time to call up for some tat market action!

Hopefully that'll not be the last time a thread regular makes it over to these damp shores... I can't guarantee dryness, but I can guarantee you'll be most welcome.

Until next time... Happy Friday, kids.

When you get bored of the Corgi Land Rover I’ll give it home to go with the canopy-less one you previously supplied. Which brings me to todays big arrival, or as my wife pointed out;probably my favourite present I’ll get for my 60th ! Yes, a Cogbox.

And as usual I’d forgotten what was in it, the Fiat was a total surprise. The Cortina the only one I’ll be getting for my birthday as MrsN can’t find one ,of any mark,  worth buying in 1:1 so far. Well not this side of £8,000 anyway.

I had that Magirus as a kid, it would have been around 1986. It came in a set with a Unimog that had a foam cannon and a generator trailer, together with a selection of firemen.  A pretty cool toy by all accounts.

Anyone recognise this mercury cougar slot car  ( ho-ish scale) no marking looks unused?IMG_20240223_170409.thumb.jpg.6b79e9752d180022bc69ecdd7af95555.jpgIMG_20240223_170430.thumb.jpg.7d0954149694d8bdaf8f6b9a71dbdb21.jpgIMG_20240223_170514.thumb.jpg.a9967695770ed628e4e634cdcb4c6040.jpgIMG_20240223_170527.thumb.jpg.eb484e15817a3621afb1de75b6bb9f16.jpg

I originally thought that was a Micro Machine but a quick Google tells me it's an Auto World. Actual Micro Machines Slot cars are the same size as regular ones i.e. much smaller and more of a caricature of the car.

The requested Majorette gooseneck caravan in Coca Cola Football colours turned up again in one of today's boxes.

IMG_20240223_1219062.thumb.jpg.cd3c5a875b9ac7d10421ab7cd3ffb10b.jpg

It's a curious thing; after a fair bit of poking at it, it became clear that this was the same casting as the Majorette camper - it just has the plastic back removed, and a wind spoiler hiding the hole in the roof where the front clips on (I believe Majorette had done that before - turning the Renault 18 Taxi into a caravan towcar with a wind deflector clipping into the same aperture as the taxi sign)

Screenshot_20240223-1458522.thumb.png.0355442830ac38473ddeedc70bac78fd.png

Look at that. It even has the gooseneck hitch just visible through the window.

It's also odd in that Majorette tended to model accurate renditions of vehicles, but it seems that this is just a generic pickup of no particular manufacturer. It looks a little bit Ford or Mazda, but not definitively either of them.

IMG_20240223_1218412.thumb.jpg.1070e7d9e203ddf23f2bb33f1e310159.jpg

Underneath just says 'Camping Car', which isn't very illuminating.

Still - not bad value for £3, and marking a reduction from previous price points.

Will set that one aside for you, dude!

Cheers Tim, that's well worth 3 quid. Here's what I did with my last one;

H198PEX1.thumb.jpg.486d2951d0396dbcffcfbc9ebb501a81.jpg

H198PEX2.thumb.jpg.d71d8bd15479b26a0730d9f28a06a4c1.jpg

And this was my first one, bought from the League of Friends shop at Milton Keynes hospital when I broke my arm aged 9. It was always one of my favourite toys and ended up getting resprayed when the plastic body went yellow. A much-modified Matchbox Dodge Commando has been substituted for the pickup as a more suitable towing vehicle.

LOF112X.thumb.jpg.4d422016978fd228fc2ee2b260616714.jpg

These were both originally first releases (1992-94) of white caravans with hideous pink awnings/interiors and equally bright pickups pulling them, one lime green and one pink. The Coca-Cola version is from 1998 according to the Majorette wiki, which claims the pickup is a Ford Ranger although it doesn't look like one to me.

Can I ask how you did the Renault Midlum? I've never seen a model of a late one before, yours looks excellent. I do have a similar example but it's an older Magirus badged model.

The Renault is one of these:

I find it hard to believe that RCMP ever used Jaguar S-Types as police cruisers, but I'd love to find out that it were true.

I have found a few photos which suggest they had a Jaguar, Toyota Prius and what might be a Kia.

Hey, glad they all showed up safely - that's not bad going, since I only posted it on Wednesday afternoon.

Will certainly hit you up if I decide to pass on the Land Rover breakdown wagon.

And - all the best for your birthday too, dude!

Seriously?  I had one on test for a week in about 1991!  Well... work did.  The clutch was really heavy, it was like pressing on somebody's chest.

*Or at least, how I imagine that to be!

No I know about the Midlum very well as the HGV workshop I worked in serviced a fleet of Ford Cargos for the local slaughterhouse. Just after I left in 1999 they sold them all and bought new V registration Midlum 7.5tonners with a servicing package so they had lost a customer.

Its was the scale model I was unaware of.

Lots of activity here!

Managed to pick up some odds and ends over the last week:

IMG_9533.thumb.JPG.c5a6fc140f2331b261f11e5adb21b4fc.JPG

Found these in a little independent toy shop. They also had the purple Skyline, Proton etc.

IMG_9530.thumb.JPG.b658112f784bb95d530b832e33e1f664.JPG

Matchbox from PoundStretcher and Majorettes from Sainsbury's. They also had the 2CV and E-Type, but I didn't find either of them particularly appealing (and Majorette packs take up more space). Will be interesting to comare the R12 with the Dacia 1300 I got in France last year.

PoundStretcher were quite well-stocked with Matchbox. There were a few old favourites, but in colours I hadn't seen before like the '66 Charger in orange.

Have two local toy fairs to visit tomorrow. Whether by accident or design there's the regular one near Ipswich on the same day as the occasional exhibition and sale held by a model railway club at Needham Market.

Only a small update on the Corgi Mini project.

The interior has had it's first session of detailing. This is done to kind of match the original Mk1 Mini Cooper interior style.

DSCF2839.thumb.JPG.38043bd43ba2868d75e6c911246ae390.JPG

When I started this yesterday there was still day light, but it looks like in the fading light I struggled with the red on the dash, that should not be there. I also need to do some more touch ins on the red. The floor is supposed to be matte red, but it looks like 20 year old paint does not work properly, as this morning it is still shiney and sticky.

DSCF2840.thumb.JPG.718535e85cc1420ff1e65d255735688d.JPG

I also gave the has been sanded and a first coat applied. This has been flatted before the next coat is done. I have also put a blob of epoxy above the right hand rear light for the second petrol cap.

Got some painting done the last few days.
AEC is now in its basic colours.
I don’t know why I decided it was a good idea to glue the door mirrors in place before paint. But it certainly made masking everything up for the blue a pain in the arse! Moron!😄

IMG_3742.thumb.jpeg.d9381445c1585c06e1302014476450e9.jpeg

All just loosely assembled. Needs the wheels doing, and all the details like grills, mirrors, wheel arches etc painted by brush yet. And a front bumper making!

D series is just getting its front mud guards fitted.

IMG_3746.thumb.jpeg.66c64bc67f6f7405de18c5443e536fe8.jpeg

Mixer barrel and rear mud guards are being primed. There were a few patches of filler on these to rub down, then some fine paper all over to key the surface.

IMG_3747.thumb.jpeg.13ac7a0c53e55a2dc2cb7fd84deae99e.jpeg

I got some transfer’s the other day off eBay. Left over 1:76 scale ones someone else didn’t need. Obviously wrong scale but that should make them perfect for the trucks doors!
They’re ARC ones so I’ll be going yellow on the cab. The chassis and everything on the back seems to have been all over grey on their trucks so I’m tempted to do the grey primer then spray over that with some matte or satin varnish just to protect it a bit more. The grey primer colour looks about right.

Had some free time today to get my two bargain display cabinets up in the garage to house my large scale models. I think I can get a couple more shelves into the larger cabinet to give me more space.

I now have some 1:18 duplicates after a few job lot buys from Facebook Marketplace if anyone is interested in swaps?

Green Burago Jaguar E Type Convertible (Presentable but not great cond)

Silver Burago Merc 300 SL (Presentable but not great cond)

Silver Burago Ferrari 456 (Nice cond)

Red Maisto Ferrari F50 (Nice cond)

Someone gifted me this Burago 1980's (I think) poster of 1:24 scale models. This is great but it's also a bad thing as I now want to collect them all!

I have found the Range Rover (nice model this) and the Ferrari is on it's way. I think the Escort, 911 and BMW will be a lot pricier but if anyone see's any about please let me know.  Condition not really important tbh as long as they are intact.

1994 sounds about right for Superkings ending, they carried on in the US for a while after I think. They had some unusual stuff at the time that I’d now very difficult to track down like the Unimog Tar Sprayer.

I think I was quite fortunate to find a Toyota HiLux and Suzuki Samurai from that era - not common finds, no.
