I’ve stopped procrastinating over my model kits as well. Apologies for the crap lighting, but here’s my first body shell sprayed with primer, paint and clear coat.

Lots of orange peel and a few dust spots, just like my efforts on the full size stuff 🤣 perfection is the enemy of getting things done though, and I’m happy to live with imperfections if it means that I at least finish a model. I can make better attempts once I have more experience, for now I’m just enjoying the process. I’ll paint the body trim satin black next, then proceed to paint the 50 million odd tiny parts.

Nice one!  Fujimi Silvia S110? You might be able to remove some/all of the orange peel with gentle polishing - I use Micromesh sheets at 3600 down to 12000 grit, then a bit of Autoglym resin polish. A bit of T-Cut might help, but with all these stages you'll need to take care not to go through the paint - it looks OK from here, I'd just leave it.

Black trim on a light coloured car is always challenging. Most times I go carefully with a brush, and sometimes have to scrape edges back. occasionally I'll mask-up using tape, or even bare metal foil. If I know I'm not going to have the patience I paint the car a darker colour so sharp edges on the trim aren't so critical.....

Most times I don't use straight black for trim, as it's rarely like that at 1:1 - my preference is Revell #9 anthracite.

You know there are two interiors in the Golfs..?

I did not know that!

And, on checking, it seems that I've come away with one of each, by pure happenstance.

Nice.

Don't mind which one I keep, so if anyone has a particular preference for a tidy-boot or a messy-boot version, hit me up...

[EDIT - claimed!]

Love that Majorette white Golf! Cool graphics on the sides. I don’t think I’ve seen any of those ones before.

I had to shoot off or I could have picked you one up. I got the white one recently, had the other colours already.

I've had a few of the Beetles and T1s, trying not to be too completionist about those!

That Golf has been modelled by Detail Cars...

It was a livery used by VW Motorsport in 1979.

That’s alright, cheers for the thought though👍

Ill keep an eye open for it round here.

I didn’t actually realise it was a real colour scheme! I just assumed someone at Majorette had cooked up a good looking paint scheme for their cars.

I was just about to get in touch with you about my box, so if no one else has claimed it I'll go for a green Golf please. You can surprise me as to which version it is....

Bburago put similar but slightly simplified decals on their 1/24 scale Mk1 Golf:

I had one of these when I was a kid and, amazingly, didn't trash it.

You sure can!

The contents of the boot are only barely visible with the help of a strong light, so it'll be the luck of the draw which one goes into your box.

Those funny little StreetKas by Shuang Da were back in TK Maxx again tonight, along with a sort-of Shelby Cobra and some form of generic sedan (?) in police clothes.

Still, they're cheap-ish, for the store.

Seems to be an insinuation that these involve some sort of motorised action... but I don't think that's the case.

'Glide forward' is just another way of saying 'has wheels', surely?

Not very much Majorette to be seen today...

Beige Mégane gets the AS seal of approval, though.

Took a spin through Home Bargains too, but their Hot Wheels selection was still firmly stuck in 2023. No Matchbox.

Ah well. Gotta check these things...

I found more Majorettes in Sainsbury's today, including some from the 60th anniversary series which I'm sure weren't there last week:

Honda E has a bigger look to it than Matchbox's version. Supra GR suffers like some other Majorette's by being a little over-wheeled and riding too high.

Renault 5 Turbo is very nice, at £6 with its tin it's still reasonable value compared to HW Premiums. They also had Porsche 911, Countach, VW Camper and Mustang.

I was messing around with the display case of them at work, thought I'd compare it with the older version. Would be great if they came up with a new normal 5 like they have done the 12/Dacia 1300. The original has an oddly truncated rear window.

Refreshed the cabinet with some of Sunday's purchases:

Finally popped the packaging on the Matchbox Moving Parts '56 Morry Thou' Tourer last night.

IMG_20240130_1559122.thumb.jpg.e856bfac383ac7fbd26840966eb0b4d8.jpg

Sometimes, I like to keep 'em in the box for a while, and then open them when I'm in the mood.

IMG_20240229_1048022.thumb.jpg.7e99850d493dd9dc9921cbe9ef441466.jpg

It's a nice little thing.

IMG_20240229_1048132.thumb.jpg.d3337ac26e7fed052bfd6cd1a59f6fae.jpg

I could probably do without all the 70th Anniversary guff on the bootlid, but the shape and detailing are well executed.

IMG_20240229_1048252.thumb.jpg.9935f06d3cb603c2066ecdebc1978d86.jpg

The orange banding to the wheels actually looks pretty sharp, giving it a pop of colour to lift the monochrome finish.

IMG_20240229_1048412.thumb.jpg.9779a0832a7146d50175a80f9428ae5f.jpg

Interior is functional - in their quest for variation, I believe this model was made in both left-hand and right-hand drive versions. I've come away with a left-hooker.

It's not very visible in the pic, but the interior's been cut away in the driver's footwell to expose the floor/base moulding, showing some moulded-in pedals, which is unusual. I'm not sure why it wasn't just included in the interior moulding - and the driver's seat has also been cut away strangely.

IMG_20240229_1227262.thumb.jpg.e71225eaf9ea9429cb42eb765eded230.jpg

Were there plans to fit a driver, or something?

But the star of the show is the opening bonnet:

IMG_20240229_1054252.thumb.jpg.a69b4f6f688f25436543c5b7ffe55d5d.jpg

And beneath it, that's a nicely detailed rendering of the A-series engine, with a decent stab at the correct shade of BMC green on the rocker cover.

Underside detailing is also a good effort.

IMG_20240229_1228212.thumb.jpg.5bd47b1629f13dcdc5c270ba37ef1960.jpg

I think I'd have preferred the standard cream version of this casting from 2022 to this Anniversary edition, but hey... finding any from this range without resorting to internet scalper prices is something of an achievement!

I still fancy a Mitsubishi Celeste and Range Rover Mk1 from the Moving Parts line, but I'd be very lucky to turn either of those up in a wee provincial newsagent...

They are a really nice model of the Minor. My preference is the mainline hard top version tbh, but you do lose the opening bonnet on that one.

Mitsubishi and Range Rover are definitely worth tracking down though.
