I try and resist Tonkas nowadays as they take up a fair bit of room that I don't have. However I spotted a lot containing a couple of Mustangs I liked the look of

Indeed, a bit of a grim morning... much rain, and dawn still seeming very far off.

IMG_20231208_0727512.thumb.jpg.9f2b35e317f507a7919fd6db8e64971a.jpg

It's like the middle of the night.

The market was... quiet.

IMG_20231208_0728442.thumb.jpg.d9a3e87b02a240415f834e8b633960ea.jpg

And slightly more in focus in real life.

But the Tat Stall was alive, and busy being Nemesis'd.

IMG_20231208_0729112.thumb.jpg.d446237b0a77490dab77b8070b12011c.jpg

Well, I'd passed the black Merc by the Oxford St entrance, so I knew what to expect...

A box of assorted diecast tat lay across one of the bins, having already been comprehensively picked through by m'learned friend.

IMG_20231208_0731302.thumb.jpg.9d24bd6c039be6c74b17effc58a09ad8.jpg

There appeared to be some familiar items from last week's box, though also a whole heap that were new.

I rummaged in vain for the pink Hot Wheels truck requested last week by @bunglebus, and the Majorette 4Runner which @Spottedlaurel was keen on, but alas they weren't to be found.

IMG_20231208_0732162.thumb.jpg.722eedacdf0e2e4f6bfcefa16e417404.jpg

There were rather more Lesney items in amongst the Days Gone and Maisto this week - though not necessarily in terrific shape.

IMG_20231208_0736582.thumb.jpg.d8ce4117aa4a70f517f1b4854ba8a4cc.jpg

Pity.

IMG_20231208_0735512.thumb.jpg.4ee562c33e3f9adbf4cbdc6f34449139.jpg

Super Kings AA six-wheeler tow trucks were in okay shape - but they're not hard to find in this sort of condition.

IMG_20231208_0737252.thumb.jpg.34d85c479c3df2fd839b55449384a78c.jpg

Corgi Merc a bit less happy.

IMG_20231208_0733092.thumb.jpg.3fc7fbad1d753c5b74889f368e0b2f23.jpg

Big(ish) blackwalls Hot Wheels crane wasn't one I'm familiar with; sadly some crucial bits seemed to be missing.

IMG_20231208_0736012.thumb.jpg.88a355e814e0bfab9b52a3bb79261cf8.jpg

Plus added camera shake, just because.

Lesney King Size Scammell crane was in slightly better nick, with just a couple of tyres needing replaced.

IMG_20231208_0738322.thumb.jpg.1f618d6d2890f5bda5d2664c0969662f.jpg

Later Universal-era Matchbox fire appliances may have been part of a Convoys set - I think my brother might have had these.

IMG_20231208_0740242.thumb.jpg.90c47f70f121c9df9972604d595915f4.jpg

Tidy enough, but not quite mint.

Majorette Bernard tipper with the porthole window was a bit knocked-about, with epic axle shonk.

IMG_20231208_0737582.thumb.jpg.f953a5d8ff66f5f59468df6d5bc55374.jpg

More cranes appeared, in the form of this recent-ish Siku...

IMG_20231208_0744012.thumb.jpg.3977ae7c8c38c46f26ed53011c40ced7.jpg

And these rather poor Corgi-badged generic sportsters with London 2012 Olympics tampo print.

IMG_20231208_0743592.thumb.jpg.fdffe2e1b111ca94ebe09dbf8e1e05c4.jpg

Mmm...

It's good, but it's not great...

A nice comparative study in smol Mettoy Guy petrol tankers presented itself...

IMG_20231208_0740482.thumb.jpg.26b9084804f2c0ef9b706c681fca5ca4.jpg

Later-era Husky with the metal base and all-plastic wheels; early Corgi Juniors with a metal base and plastic-tyred metal wheels; and late Juniors with plastic base, Whizzwheels and the front end modded so it no longer had a separate grille.

IMG_20231208_0741012.thumb.jpg.3543377afd54eb6f8a4f233bd30ac1ce.jpg

Interesting to see that although the detail had declined badly by the mid-70s example, it's the only one to be accurately marked as a Guy tanker.

I thought I'd found an early plastic-base Husky version in the box to make it a full house, but it turned out to be a slightly different milk tanker.

IMG_20231208_0741202.thumb.jpg.d362e6b8f067fc96ef0306f83a742c83.jpg

You can see the size difference here too, as Husky scaled up towards the end of the 1960s.

IMG_20231208_0741272.thumb.jpg.b975c84dd4d180b671864d22acc21ef5.jpg

Interesting, but they were all pretty worn - so I didn't.

Nemesis, meanwhile, had already made his choices:

IMG_20231208_0729442.thumb.jpg.2576183ae24d4a83faa5cd2e68d27f43.jpg

Other than maybe the Corgi Escort van in Royal Mail colours, there wasn't a lot I was too jealous of.

He didn't hang around to chat much today, paying up and heading back out into the damp December dawn after a few pleasantries.

The cheapo boxed section was back today, with more new additions:

IMG_20231208_0729422.thumb.jpg.50ceb466fe9a8ebd1dda96dc9a128e6e.jpg

It is vaguely perplexing that the tidy boxed stuff is £2, and the scrappy loose stuff in the banana box also appears to be £2 a go.

Which means that these MoYs are starting to teeter on the verge of appearing Good Value.

IMG_20231208_0749382.thumb.jpg.ecf1fc571d1da23af39f6d6d4befe5a8.jpg

Relativism, hey?

This 2004 release must be one of the very last Lledo Collectors Club models issued, as I believe Corgi finally killed the name off in early 2005.

IMG_20231208_0748502.thumb.jpg.b04e65b32ca00ef08511de248c5fad23.jpg

As such, its true value could be as high as £2.20.

839657667_DavidDickinsonTomica.png.4e77f065e0fc0e7724e4b214958426de.png

These vee-dubs were new, I think.

IMG_20231208_0747502.thumb.jpg.94447feec5715169591dfa1ed22c69c5.jpg

As were these Hongwell Mercedes items:

IMG_20231208_0748132.thumb.jpg.83d80f0ed9d14c626e0f89bb1d55ad81.jpg

And, as I moved off, I noted a few fairly cack-handed repaints had appeared up top on the stall.

IMG_20231208_0752532.thumb.jpg.8d0bb113732eaed148f1c823bee4de17.jpg

Yeah, think I'll pass...

Elsewhere, there wasn't a lot either to tickle my semi-frozen fancies...

Bobby Optimism still hadn't found the errant plastic ship from the pack @FakeConcern was interested in procuring - and as such hadn't bothered to bring it in today.

IMG_20231208_0729243.thumb.jpg.366917ab89bc4591a75922ed3ec65177.jpg

Only one Piku Alfa left, now.

IMG_20231208_0729272.thumb.jpg.4251b45a36b37b1751cd5732b07be530.jpg

Dinky Nash Rambler wagon was new, mind.

I didn't dare ask the price.

Another Rambler had popped up on the Charity Stall today, though it looked like a repaint:

IMG_20231208_0757032.thumb.jpg.e6ee8ed80369c92199f0bc5140d781f8.jpg

Also available was this fairly unappealing Dinky Corvette, from their late 70s misery years.

IMG_20231208_0757162.thumb.jpg.c6e0f25db1844796a650c7a2e8825247.jpg

Again, I kept my trap shut...

The Irish Tat stall was also maintaining its holding pattern...

IMG_20231208_0758442.thumb.jpg.7a5ebcb924a3a0da77a4bca79bb83eeb.jpg

Not a lot new, as far as I could make out.

IMG_20231208_0758402.thumb.jpg.b1dadfb5220e7e7942cac96f96c61e69.jpg

Though the ADAC BMW Isetta was now on display (top left).

A Greenlight S&H Torino was also hanging rather incongruously amongst the diddly-dee tourist items.

IMG_20231208_0758032.thumb.jpg.8b8808a0ff585405a23a530046fe6de6.jpg

More Hot Wheels, but again nothing to titivate, really.

IMG_20231208_0759152.thumb.jpg.dae4427aa3fa81813af1b17afacac09f.jpg

With Alan's Emporium only just shaking off its tarpaulins, coffee beckoned...

I did put my hand in my pocket, though.

IMG_20231208_0806162.thumb.jpg.409ac9f9cb13ea4be5c2c001824347c0.jpg

These unboxed 1/76 Oxford AA patrol vehicles were, apparently, appealing enough at £2 a pop to make me do a buy.

As was this fairly straight Superfast Lesney No.17 AEC horsebox.

IMG_20231208_0806502.thumb.jpg.d7c04709040c051cd988df58a467f1d8.jpg

But this intrigued me...

IMG_20231208_0807372.thumb.jpg.775ccf08ef370d770936ba7e5a7f0de8.jpg

Yes, from the Hachette 'Century of Cars' partwork is this unbranded Land Rover S2 SWB, which appears to be nothing more than a hacked-down version of the long running Corgi LWB casting.

IMG_20231208_0807512.thumb.jpg.cf68b58a2a44cb5f40462b0de8354e90.jpg

The incorrect sloping roof is a bit of a giveaway.

So I felt a need to procure this one and carry out a comparison at some point, to confirm or deny my suspicions.

A tenner not-terribly-well spent, then, and while I'm happy enough to hold on to them myself, if you're tempted by any of them at £2 - or any of the other tat box stuff you've noticed - do let me know.

I've a few errands to run in the city centre now, but I'll be heading back this way around 10/10.30, so sing up if there's anything you can't live without! After that, I have to head home and put down a floor...

@danthecapriman If a few of those Taunuses ever show up in my price range, I do need at least two for painting.

@Datsuncog Amazingly, there's a Yesteryear I might want, if it's going to be in the £2 box!  The Crossley RAF tender; I think there might also have been a breakdown version, so both if possible please.  Also, please tell me you picked up that big AA Land Rover (Corgi?) because I can rehome that too.

They’re quite cheap from euro sellers. They seem to go for more here. I’ll keep an eye out for you though.

Some night time reading.

DSCF0839.thumb.JPG.b4803a82a04fcc38e3c5a117148c8e85.JPG

Well not quite. There's just a little leaflet in the front cover. Inside the book are two 1/43rd models of the eight original Mercedes-Benz W194 300 SL cars.

DSCF0844.thumb.JPG.ef96a4c4b8a03661309d610b49b1cf04.JPG

DSCF0846.thumb.JPG.b005376fbee7c06bfbef2b23c0edf2bd.JPG

The first is chassis number 0001/52. This was the first that was presented on March 12th for high-speed demonstrations on the Stuttgart to Heilbronn Autobahn.

I hear some at the back thinking they have forgotten to put the door gaps into the lower part of teh body. Well they have not. The original car did not have full Gull Wing doors, only the side window and roof part opened.

DSCF0855a.thumb.jpg.180f3c480852952625cf3450f0898f37.jpg

The second is chassis number 00006/52. After having being fitted with an experimental roof-mounted air brake. After initial testing at Le Mans in 1952, the race organisers deemed it to be unsafe and prohibited Mercedes from using it in the race.

And it has not lost half the numbers from the doors, this is how the car was run.

Aha!  A Playskool 'Power Rod', from 1984

Could I buy it?  Not got one of those...  would like to repair it...

It will have a soldered-in rechargeable Ni-Cad cell in there, which is why it's not off to clout the skirting.  The cell leaking years ago will probably have rotted the joints and windings on the motor, but you can* get hold of modern-day Ni-MH cells and perhaps* adapt to fit.  Getting the motor working might be another matter.

They came with a hand-held charger which you fitted into slot in the rear:
