Lunchtime trolley dash round Tesco revealed nothing in the way of diecast developments - lots and lots of Hot Wheels, occupying both tubs and smothering the dregs of the Matchbox, but just the same old stuff and nothing of any particular interest.

Poundland had a few 2022 Hot Wheels that I hadn't picked up previously...

So, for £1.50, I did.

Also having fun pissing about with the Oxford RAC Recovery Transit.

Very fond of this already.

The Miura would be a great model if it wasn’t fitted with medieval cart wheels.

Perhaps sir would prefer the Matchbox version?

I don’t mind either size wheel - I just wish they were the same size!

Who wants a North Berwick charity shop bargain?! They were very opulent charity shops though, with plenty of golf clubs!

That looks heaps better, in fairness.

I'm a sucker for Miuras, they're the one supercar I do dribble over a bit (well, that and the Iso Grifo).

There was a bright green one at the NEC a few years back, and they had to practically call security to make me go away...

Well well. I've been visiting my dad near Birmingham for donkeys years and only tonight realised there's a Smyths (plus BuM, Home Sense and TK Maxxx) just around the corner.

They had quite a decent selection of stuffs, Boulevard

Interesting Monster Trucks (but I will resist)

And these - larger scale Hot Wheels. This is the whole range at the moment, it would be nice if they do some of "our" kind of castings too. We'll see

They also had N case cars - pics to follow

A little beauty!
I’ve been after one for ages, but I never could find them whenever or wherever I looked. They just always seemed to elude me!
Great to finally have one and it fills a gap in the collection.

Unboxing action, as promised...

Some of the bare metal panels are going in the paintshop tomorrow, to at least get primed; some are waiting for the relevant cars to appear.  No I haven't just bought these bits on spec, I do have the cars reserved and coming to me eventually.

Meanwhile, I've had prepping to do...

100_0318.thumb.JPG.83c686b61eb53a21c8714c1da97fee4f.JPG

Matchbox paint is horrible to get rid of.  There are some partwork models in this batch too, see below.  They really don't want to give up their factory paint.  But, several caustic baths, my wire wheel on the drill and some wet-and-dry later, not to mention some old-fashioned picking at paint with a Stanley knife(!) we're ready for the next stage.

100_0323.thumb.JPG.747303078b0b92b008cf8365d9f94368.JPG

And here you can see a whole bunch of bodies after I've attacked them with the P38.  Next stop: primer!

100_0324.thumb.JPG.3c90752e0ef294a1900cc33eda5069cf.JPG

And this is where I've left them.  Tomorrow afternoon I may start looking at colour coats.  The only "given" with these shown is that the XJ is going to be blue, with the roof in matt black ("vinyl").  I might even try to paint whitewalls on the tyres, because the Daimler I had 21 years ago had them.  You can probably guess who bought them specially for it... ;)

Thanks to @bunglebus post yesterday, I made a very brief visit to Sutton Coldfield today for a buy.

My Brother having the Civic and one Alfa for his collection and I'm keeping the other pair.

If anybody in need of Matchbox btw, I can gladly  check my local B&M for stock as it only 10 mins walk from me.

@eddyramrod

I'd hold fire on painting the Steve Flowers repro panels until you've tried them. All that I've had needed a lot of attention with a file to make them fit.

Looking forward to seeing the results of your efforts!

Yes, don't worry, I've been doing some trial-fitting.  The files have already come out.  One thing I have noticed is the hinge pins on the caravan doors are WAY too thick.

Won this little job lot off the Bay.

A few nice items in it. Main reason was the Corsair!
Zylmex Datsun estate is a new one on me. For a cheapie brand it’s actually pretty good, the wheels let it down a bit but still.
Cortina & Capri both good, Corgi Jr tractor is a bit different to the more common Matchbox one.
Pontiac is pretty nice but lost all its glazing unfortunately. Annoying as the paint is so good. Maybe I’ll open it up and replace it from a rougher version?

Is there anywhere online with lists of Zylmex models?
There must be quite a few I’ve never seen (or taken notice of!).

Love the Datsun estate! I think I may have to source a mk4 Tina looking at that one - cracking looking diecast.

I'm partial to the odd Zylmex and PlayArt now and again, mostly as they seem to have come out with some oddball castings - when they weren't busy cribbing other manufacturer's castings.

I think that wagon is a homage* to the Tomica Nissan Cedric.

The Matchbox Cortina is nice looking, definitely captures the look and shape imho. I’ve got all the GB colours now, metallic green, metallic red and the gold-ish one with black stripes. There’s Bulgarian made ones too in a variety of colours we didn’t get here.

They seem to attract the old skool Ford Yo scene tax on eBay though! Although if you try to search for a job lot that’s got one in you can sometimes get them cheaper. Even better if there’s a job lot with multiple models you want in it!

This is my second green car and not as good as my other one so it’ll become a strip down and repaint eventually.

Blimey!! Salty much!

I had no idea it was a rip off Tomica! Still looks good though. I find some Zylmex models just look cheap and nasty but others are actually pretty good, like this Datsun.
That’s why I want to find a list (preferably with pics) so I can see which ones to hunt down. Some of their American cars are pretty good too. There’s a Lincoln Continental that looks great.

Popped to Asda hoping to find one of the Majorette T25s in either high top or towing caravan form, but no such luck.

I was tempted by the Fast and Furious Maxima and E46, but at £18 for the pair I left them for now.

Did get this though

If you don't already have one... last week's market find is still available!

Glazing is uncracked, and should respond to a bit of cleaning.
