I can add to your misery... is that a repainted G7 Gift Set Matchbox car ferry?

image.png.81a31592ad72b3f2bfeee3863de7a37e.png

Worth having, even if Humbrol'd!

Seems to be the early version with the deck drains - I'd thought it might have been the even rarer grey landing craft supplied with the Beach-Head Assault playset of 1978, but I think that was a different moulding.

FFS stop posting pictures of stuff I had as a kid and now have to try and find/source for my own nostalgia fetishes (/\ /\ had that car ferry but in red).

Did you happen pick up the Hong Kong police transit (the rear end is shown in you last photo, as circled)?

Made by C'sm (I believe they usually made bus models) and are possibly the only 1/43 scale 1995 - 2000 Ford Transit mk3.5 (Smiley grille) models to exist. All were LWB, with 2 different roof height (medium & high roof) versions produced.

They were released in various Hong Kong police liveries, some UK police force liveries were modelled as well (Cambridgeshire, Northumbria & London Metropolitan police force liveries from my hazy memory) There were also some vans produced in Amtrak & Citylink courier company liveries.

(Boxed models with certs etc sell for around £50-£60 plus on ebay)

If anyone collects these and would like to add an NZ police Transit to the collection, there's a fella selling some (in NZ, of course).

From a batch of 300 numbered issues commissioned, apparently.

Landed at mine (in NZ!) would be about £35, so not cheap but perhaps cheap/interesting enough for those committed to the cause.

XJ6C is finally in shops now?

I bought mine back in April in Tenerife. A small island in the Atlantic that had them yet in the U.K. I’ve not seen any, still the same rubbish that was there in January. I just don’t think Mattel have any interest in promoting them in the U.K. the distribution is that bad that they might as well not bother. Rant over! 🤣

Why do Hot Wheels do that.

That car was raced at the Nurburgring 1000km in 1968.

9063.jpg.9c45fef932f019786fbe9a9a04938f7d.jpg

At some point it lost the Shell stickers from the sides. My guess it required a new engine cover at some point.

9062.jpg.0a0f1b7d22486cdc829b1bebc78136f1.jpg

9061.jpg.cb08aae9901ed606480672cb42a764e0.jpg

The car was entered by VW-Auto Oy of Finland and driven by Pauli Toivonen and Antti Aarnio-Wihuri. They failed to finish because of engine problems. The car raced until 1970 by which time it was painted yellow, the chassis number was 125.

It would have probably transported using a VW of some sort. Maybe on a trailer like this Frazer Nash one...

9064.jpg.e7a4a2c852edc942e0b31c78f28ad8d4.jpg

or on the back of a pick up

1473657758-roa090116dpt-go-23.jpg?resize

But it most definitely would not have been transported on some generic American truck from the future. It's not that hard for them to do a split screen van and trailer and make the set more life like.

Only recent arrival here is this Mercury Fiat 130 berlina, which mainly makes me wonder (again) why nobody modeled a 130 coupé in 1:43 in period

Some more late entries from Sundays bootsale £1 bins!

IMG_6566.jpeg.2037d0cfc4b4fce1e2208871bc25e891.jpeg

Now this is a case of wheels making the model, I can even overlook the bizarre colour choice! Almost well proportioned bar the oddly long front wing behind the wheel arch, otherwise rather nice. Solido Hi-Fi:

Next up the humble Prius - not sure if this an official model or not, but it is an excellent representation of a humdrum (yet technical tour-de-force) family car. Wipers, wheeltrims and aerial (that wobbles) lights and badging are good too. Only missing a Wolverhampton private hire plate 😉

Lastly this tatty yet great Opel Monza bearing the Hotwheels base, so I think that makes it a Mebetoys  casting? Well proportioned and detailed for a humble toy.

Brilliant finds! Solido HiFis were definitely a cut above the regular range.

The Monza will indeed be a late Mebetoys. I have a Volvo 343 from the same era.
